Your love for Italian wines draw me to your channel. You present tastings with a sense of humor, a great smile and open mind. I learn a lot and sometimes rediscover some wineregions like Navarra. And by the way, your voice sounds very ok to me. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your vids every week. I will open a nice Antonelli San Marco Rosso Montefalco Riserva to say 'cheers' to your channel (and health of course))!
Ahhh that’s a heckuva wine to cheers with!
I enjoy be educated on wine regions and your personality makes them so much more fun in learning. I dont think I will buy another supermarket wine again. Thank you for all your hard work. Hope your channel keeps growing. PS...glad you found your scarf😊❤
Hahaha thanks! I never lost it! Keep exploring.
Very interesting video. Your passion for wine and the excitement you show is really great. And a sense of humour allied with humility and no bs.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
I live in China and share the experience of many of the viewers who can't find the wines that are reviewed, but as you said what I appreciate is your introductions to new varieties and regions. First video I watched was you confessing love for all different Rieslings a year or two ago. I was sold by your way of evaluating and introducing wine. This has kept me with your content as well as that when I have been able to find the wines you review they always meet or exceed expectations. Always credible reviews. Love it Matthew! Keep up the amazing work.
Wowww thanks so much!! Which city in China?
@@drmatthewhorkey pretty spoiled, I live in Shanghai
I did find the ORMA but will wait longer to enjoy it. Smaller producers = delicious and complex wines! Wines to savour and not just gulp down :-) Thanks Matthew!
Enjoy it when you do pop it open!
Atta boy Matthew! I remember when you were down in the dumps and thinking about giving up. Always remember, the world is full of talented people who never find success. It’s the persistence that many people lack. Keep doing what you love and never let anyone try to talk you out of it.
Thank you. Not down in the dumps but this is my full-time gig, trying to do something like this full-time without the cushion of anything else can get VERY stressful
yes stress is part since it must be a ton of work but know this I for one really appreciate all you do and I am certain thousands do too and soon Millions, @@drmatthewhorkey 👍🙏🥰
Excellent unintended “Q&A.” Very good!
🙏🙏🙏
I think it's always an amazing experience as a creator to be able to see how your work and content can imspire people and hold such an important presence in their hearts. I think it kind of exemplifies how a lot of our passions can also be seen as a passion for other people and their experiences. Thank you for speaking on that a bit in this video and may your work go on to hold meaning in the hearts of many more
Ahhhhwww thanks so much
I love your tastings when the cheapest wine is one of the best! Makes my day. International wine festival is here in March, I was not planning to go but the feature country is Italy, so I will be there! Found a Medoro Marche IGT Sangiovese Umani Ronchi 2022 so good! For $14 here. Keep up the great work!
Nice!!! Enjoy the tasting
Hello Matthew. I started to dive into wine about 4 months ago and it's becoming such a big part of my life. As Korean American I started to watch wineking channel and RUclips algorithm has taken me to your channel as well. I really enjoy watching your videos. It helps me a lot learn more about wine world. Thank you and God Bless. PS. Go Green!!
Ahhh thanks and nice to hear from a fellow Korean American. Go WHITE!!
Your video on Taurasi is what made me subscribe. I was looking up videos on Taurasi and your tasting video showed up. Keep up the good work.
Ahhh that’s the video! I am hoping to do a bigger blind tasting of Taurasi in the future.
Wow, Matt, Thank you for including one of my comments. Honestly, sometimes I leave comments on RUclips and in the morning I've completely forgotten so I'm always a bit apprehensive about any response. I actually think there's an art to a thought out comment so I try to make mine interesting at the very least.
I also want to echo what others have said: You are doing a great job in a fun and engaging way. I used to see you comment in John's (Attorney Somm) videos and realised you had your own channel. I've said this before but ten years ago Garry V was the only fun wine channel and there was no sense of community. That's changed thanks to people like you. I don't want to crap on France but it is extremely refreshing to see reviewers enjoying wine from all corners of the globe. WT
I always appreciate your comments and yes there is an art to thought provoking comments. I didn’t see one from you on the Navarra video! I thought it would be up your alley
@@drmatthewhorkey It's coming. I knew you were looking for it so please reply.
Hi Matthew, nice video. I was especially interested in your personal touch. That is, how wine connects us all together. Please keep your videos coming, I really like the ones that showcase the value wines. I am not interested in the expensive, collector wines. I cannot relate to those. Thank you for your work. I enjoy your work.
Thanks! There will be a mix of both. Wine is diverse after all
Maybe a wine searcher link to the wines? Thanks for your content!
That is a great suggestion.
All wines are listed in description box and can easily be cut and pasted onto Wine-Searcher :)
Absolutely love the videos. you’ve definitely driven me to try new wines for sure. Even wines aren’t really mentioned on the channel. Like Gamay Cabernet Franc. And I’m really starting to like the wines from Argentina and Chile.
Niceee Thanks a lot and keep exploring!
i watch everyone of your videos and what i love the most is the way you can describe what your tasting and how you come to the conclusion about your ratings. YOU do it with passion, humilty and humor and i will continue with you until you stop. also im always buying wines from countries i would not have normally tried thanks to you.
Many many thanks!!
Wow, great idea for a video. Nice that you shared all those insights. Thanks for posting. I'm looking forward to the Costco/supermarket videos you mentioned.
Thanks for commenting as always!
I've been collecting and enjoying wine for nearly 5 decades and your videos capture the essence of why I enjoy wine and the wine community. I literally have cases of old 1st Growths, Petrus, and Y'quem in my cellar, along with early 70's California Cabs. I have enjoyed wines that others sometimes dream of trying, but finding an outstanding $20 bottle that I can point my friends to and suggest that they purchase a case for now and the future provides me with an immense sense of pleasure.
If you have the time and interest, please visit Oregon in late July for IPNC, where you can experience the biggest French Burgundy Négociants going toe to toe with the upstarts of Oregon and the rest of the world. Sunday is 4 hours of Pinot Noir bliss.
I love your comment about finding a $20 bottle that will please your friends! Funny enough I just talked to the president of IPNC and hope to make it out there.
You won't regret it. I have friends from France making a return trip to McMinnville for the full program.
PA changed the law. You can buy wine at supermarkets now
Yeah but there is still a stricter level of regulation compared to other states. Unfortunately some of these rules are still holdovers from right after the end of American prohibition and lawmakers have been slow to repeal them
Ahhh I see!
Nice and different video, regarding the lower consumption on wine, I had an idea and hope you are interested, I would love to see a video on best wines to start drinking, the one you give to your son when they turn 18 (there 21), then other wines to continue their journey, and recommendations when to pass to the next level, lets say intemediate more complex wines and finally how to identify when the person is ready appreciate a more complex wine, something like a manual for starting to drinking, wine appreciation 101 or a way you would teach a pretegee about wine.
I would start fresh and fruity and then move to Pinot and then Bordeaux/blends then Italian reds
About first comment, small production is as you said up to 100k bottles, then I remember Matalj produces like 7k bottles of Kremen Kamen that ends up being sold out quickly on Serbian market
What I didn’t expand on is what you said. 100 k total production but a wine one may like may only be a small proportion of that production. Like you stated 7k of a special wine out of 100k total.
wait! I am famous! I knew one of my cheeky comments would make it😅
hahahah your comments are great
Dr. Horkey, I hope you can make some time to do a video of Mexican wines. Cheers
Go to channel homepage and look for Mexican Wine playlist
@@drmatthewhorkey maybe it's time to catchup witt newer wines, from Coahuila
I'll be in Mexico in June to judge the Concour Mondial de Bruxelles so I will def taste a few newer vintages.
@@drmatthewhorkeycheckout Don Leo, Bodega Los Cedros,, Bodegas Del Viento, Rivero González, all of them from Coahuila, where wine making began in the Americas over 400 years ago, and Sofía from Aguascalientes
Sucks that ppl will always have something negative to say, but (in a way) I’m glad it helped you improve your knowledge, skills and videos! I got excited when you said you’re gonna redo a Costco wine trip (Costco does have some legit wines from time to time!) …maybe another Trader Joe’s one too 👀😆 🍷
Costco does have good wines and is the largest retailer in the USA when it comes to moving wine
I am so sorry that some internet troll made you feel bad about your voice, and that you continually have to put up with mean comments. It sucks that RUclips content creators are treated like they themselves are the product sometimes and that people feel free to find fault with personal things about you as a human, instead of judging the actual content of the videos. Kudos to you for turning something mean into a constructive drive to improve your video and sound editing. Your content is interesting and unique and I have learned many new things from you. I’m glad you haven’t let the haters stop you! Your passion and knowledge is what makes these videos as great as they are. Don’t let the trolls get you down!
Thanks for all of your comments! I work not to let troll hate doesn’t get to me. Comments like that about audio got to me because it is true!
Just know that is somebody’s particular audio preference. There are plenty of us who enjoy listening to you and don’t hear anything wrong at all. I have happily listened to your videos almost every day since discovering them and I never heard anything I thought was odd. And there is a difference between constructive criticism and people just being mean/weird. Glad you work to not let them get you down!
I did SDEN/WSET-2 exactly because I felt my vocabulary was missing in this field. And glad I did it.
Good that you had fun doing it!
I live in PA and the union run State Store monopoly stinks. Some grocery stores stock wine now and I wish Costco would join in. Fortunately federal law now allows wines to ne shipped here. I use Empire Wines and Saratoga Wines and get good wines shipped here. You have to pay for shipping but there's no tax, so it's about a cost wash.
Yes, all about getting a few better bottles by case and stocking away!
My gf started my interest in wine. I have often mentioned how much she has brought to my life. Wine was one of the mutual interests we bonded over when we were stuck apart on different continents. Wine for sure has some special symbolism for me because of it. Mentally, she has given me the healthy relationship that I needed to heal and overcome the damage that comes from a dysfunctional family dynamic. It has all gone a very long way to alleviate my mother and sister's fear that I would end up having the same bad relationship with alcohol nearly every other male is my family on both sides have.
Wow!! Different continents??? That is a very heartwarming comment.
@@drmatthewhorkey She's an Aussie. We were separated when the pandemic hit and the AU government closed boarders to international travel. It's still difficult sometimes but we did finally get to visit for 2 months last year.
I would love to see a video from you in the Okanagan Valley in BC Canada. Maybe you've already been there. I've been impressed with Syrah made from vineyards in Osoyoos.
I would love to get out there sooner rather than later
Hey Matthew, I'm not getting a thumbs up icon on this vid for some reason. I do like it though, as always. I consider you one of the major mentors on my wine journey and that's been true from the start for me, only a little over two years ago. Keep up the great work and keep growing!
I just realized it's true of all my tube videos - I can't like anything! Not a problem at your end.
Thanks so much!
Hey matt, big fan. Wondering if you can take us on an acid trip?! With the prices of great sangiovese and Nebbiolo skyrocketing, would love to hear your thoughts on medium bodied, structured and high acid wines that exist without breaking the bank!
I did a video of ten red wines under $25 that may suit you!
Could you review ; "altos las hormigas" wines ? And “Gd. Vajra”
Vajra has shown up on the channel before ;)
@@drmatthewhorkey awesome ! Will give it a look!
Not to be too defensive of comments that suggest not all wines you review can be easily found, a one-minute glance of all of your videos revealed at least 10 that not only address less expensive wines, but show many wines that should be widely available no matter where someone lives in the US. I love knowing about wines I probably cannot access easily or even never. I live in a state that like Pennsylvania, all alcohol is bought by the state first and then distributed. I long ago learned to make lists of wines I want to find so that when traveling outside of the state, I may be able to pick up some of them.
Thanks! Penn is a tough state. In wine it's impossible to have a whole video of wines that EVERYONE from all corners of the US, let alone the globe, can get.
That first comment was completely correct though. It may be easier for you to reviews wine mailed to you, but I live in NJ and basically nothing on this channel is ever in a store by me
NJ is a state with a great selection, one of the best in USA thanks to proximity to Manhattan. Wine is so diverse that even if they were all wines in your local store, some still wouldn't be available to everyone watching. I recommend going to Wine Library in NJ, it has A LOT of the wines on this channel.
@@drmatthewhorkey almost all my shopping is at wine library or Gary’s or Wegmans. They just are not available
informed wine buyer! Sorry to hear, I work to show wines that I see are available on the USA via wine searcher. I unfortunately can't check out every shop in the USA to see what's available
@@drmatthewhorkey of course. I just wanted to let you know that the wines you choose is always part of a discussion with my tasting group
:)
Hey, Doc! Now that I know you are a chiropractor, I am hoping you can put your two expertise together to help with a problem. My C2 and C3 are congenitally fused... do you have a wine recommendation that may help me with better range of movement? 😄
tough segments to have fused!!! Gotta keep enjoying the stuff you like to get through it
@@drmatthewhorkey It's been this way 56 years now. I'm just used to turning my whole body when I need to get past my stopping point. :D But, I will keep drinking the wines I love, and hope it helps! :D
