Erika Nilsson If I have understood what you are talking about, then yes. This is called rotoscoping and it is a very tedious frame by frame process to help ensure the realism of the shot and to help when compositing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscoping
Honestly had no idea the scale of the effects in this movie. That proves the mastery you have over organic environments. Simply inspiring. Invisible visual effects - that's what you achieved.
Your vfx work just blows my mind!!! Seriously!!! I wish more people appreciated Visual Effects and the work that actually goes into it instead of saying, "That movie sucked." They could say I didn't like the story but the vfx were AWESOME!! Sadly it is not always that way with people. Love your work though!!
Woah! Never thought how much CGI was used! Am amazed! Everything looked SOOO REAL! Mind BLOWN! Congrats, now I understand why The Lone Ranger is on the runner-ups for best special effects, outstanding work!
Great staff guys its really inspiring to see how animation and after effects(CG) combine in feature films to make great scenes.Keep up the good work as an student animator in S.A I am inspired maybe in future will work together.
Yes, a new video! Question: As a student going into animation, I'm told often that the animation industry is iffy right now. How high is demand for animation and visual effects in the movie industry right now?
Thanks for uploading this! You guys are just unbelievable! I want to see the film just for the incredible VFX now. Btw., could you also uploaded some more making of Pacific Rim VFX? That would be great!
amazing environment, really appreciate the hard work you do to the get the best VFX ever, I read the interview it was about Max and I saw here Maya but that doesn't matter
I actually forgot I watched this movie. It wasn't bad, but for some reason it was forgettable. Seeing the FX reel is very impressive though. However, I keep thinking that all those great effects don't register with my brain any more. It's such a huge amount of work, yet it doesn't help sell movies to me any more. There is something about the look of these greenscreen movies that works better with certain genres, most notable sci-fi and fantasy pictures.
The effects where not there to sell the movie, but to sell the story and the action, without being prohibitive in cost or effort. If you cannot tell that they did these effects than they succeeded.
I think in recent years filmmakers have brought it back to employing visual effects when needed but having a real plate to build upon (such as Chris Nolan). Great visual effects requires the artistry and the tools and like any tool needs to be in the right hands, films such as Iron Man and Transformers have benefited greatly from visual effects as well as Davey Jones from Pirates' 2 & 3, yes CG has it's limits and miniatures are still superior in a lot of areas but in the last 20 years there have been some great examples of vfx.
This is the type of stuff that doesn't get nominated because it doesn't look like there are any EFX. Amazing work.
What detail... This is crazy!
We've added a new Behind the Magic video to our RUclips channel - The visual effects of 'The Lone Ranger'. Check it out.
sittingonhemorrhoids ah yes! I never knew what exactly that technique was called before

Very underappreciated movie, I loved it!

Outstanding work! I'll always appreciate the amazing effort you guys put into your art!
This type of VFX is more impressive to me than the stylized stuff. I appreciate the stylized, but photo real is 10x the work and skill, IMHO.
You guys are an inspiration.
Woow it's really Good Work teamwork.

I think even people who hated the movie can admit that the effects were incredibly well made.

At around 2.16 - the split view, which one is the final shot? bottom or top? colors are different.
Exceptional work on the env. and simulations.

What is your main 3d software? Great job by the way :)

Approx. how many GB (Prob. TB) was the CGI in this film?
I understand having a green-screen behind you and actor doing the acting. But how can you pan around the background image with the actor?
That is awesome ! Did you work on Captain America : The Winter Soldier ? Thanks.
Awesome :)
How many people were involved in the visual fx department?
Cool. Do you guys plan on doing a video for Star Trek Into Darkness?
AWESOME! Are you making one for Transformers 4?
What renderers did you guys use on this project, if you don't mind sharing.
I certainly hope you guys will be taking over the CGI on Jurassic World.
Wouldn't feel right if you didn't!
Did you use only Speedtree for trees? How about any other foliage?
Cool!
An actual video from ILM?
awesomeeeeeee
Train scenes shot in Colorado. Colorado pride!
This is my dream job

Woah :O
I am looking forward to watching the first $500 million dollar, 90 minute movie.
Do you need any specific degree to come and work at ILM? somebody i will make it there i promise ;)
omg my dream
Sweeeeet
Impressive. But kinda disappointed all that is not real.
I feel bad for whoever had to rotoscope this :)
Too much CGI doesn't guarantee a blockbuster.
wtf.....even the train is s.e.
movies in 1990-s or 2000-s:
70% live action, 30% VFX
movies today:
30% live action, 70% VFX
kinda sad, ain't it?
How could it possibly be sad?
