    I wonder why the MI theory is not as "popular" as it once was? It seems to me that all teachers should be trained in the theory so that teaching techniques are enhanced in the public schools around the world! It just makes so much sense.

      The MI theory was never supported by empirical evidence, and in the past couple of decades, quite a lot of empirical evidence has emerged to suggest that applying MI theory makes no meaningful impact on learning outcomes. The reality is that a lot of TESOL best practices are unsupported by empirical evidence, and I think it's likely that many more of them will fade away over the coming decades.
