I had a similar co developer in a business. Unfortunately, my take away is, if you value what you're doing, put it on paper. Make sure that you both have signed documents, legally tight that defines your roles.
Do it! Update it as need be! Be proud of the legal binding you have, and promote it for what it is, the power of your joint venture. Best of luck!
