Shes homeless and longs for a house
She lucid dreams to escape her reality
(For those who dont know, lucid dreams are dreams you can control, you just need to think of what you want to dream then it happens)
Now when she looks through the book she sees where she wants to be so she can control her dream into being like that
I know its a dream because shes wearing white and the house is clean and the only thing she ate or any food we saw in the house was cereal
When everything goes bad and she says "you cant get me in here" its her mind remembering where she is and whats happening to her but because shes lucid dreaming she can control her dream and she doesnt allow it to becime a nightmare and to stay in her beautiful house
This is what i think could have been a possible ending to the story
She become obsessed with the fact that she can be in her perfect house by dreaming so she tries everything to get her self to sleep, she knocks herself out cold, she makes herself pass out etc.
But she eventually dies because she isnt eating due to the fact that she wants to lucid dream all the time
She might think shes eating but shes become so used to lucid dreaming that she cant tell the difference from whats her dream and whats reality

The only problem with this film is that it’s short

The scariest part of the whole film was Kennedy running so much
0:50 I'm a student filmmaker and I've seen quite a lot of short films, and developed a fairly good eye for them. Lots are accepted into film festivals just because money was splashed on them to make them look aesthetically good, but no care is put into the story or the pacing and stuff like that.
This surprised me a lot. With all sincerity that was one of the best short films I've ever seen. I only remembered halfway through that you made it in 24 hours, what the fuck. I don't know how the workload was split between you and your crew but if any of you ever decide to take up filmmaking professionally and keep this level of commitment to the job without a doubt you will make it VERY far.

So basically for anyone who is confused- the forest is her real life and the house is her lucid dream. How lucid dreams work are they feel so real it’s almost like a alternate reality. Because she liked her lucid dreams she would force herself to sleep but everytime she goes to sleep she has to look in the magazine to see the houses because Lucid dreams work better if you have a vivid thought of what you want to dream.

I say the one when she's at home because it's too "perfect" and it has a lot of white colors. She also says" you can't get me here" meaning her living in the woods is her reality and she dreams about having a house like the one in the magazine
She is also reading a home lifestyle magazine in one forest scene. Shortly after, she wakes up relieved in her "perfect" home. What about the pain she feels while in the dream, only to wake up to a wound in real life?

different ways I interpreted this short film:
1. Obviously Lucid dreaming a house she wish she had while she is actually homeless in the woods attempting to escape the world.
2. These are two different worlds of twins who have connected thoughts and feelings. One homeless, the other living in perfection. One neglecting, the other yearning. Just a thought.
3. Simulation where she is being hijacked to remember memories she doesn’t want to.

It would be impossible to film if the forest was really pitch dark. There are lights while on set, and later on you'll still need to color correct (edit) so your White is whiter, black is blacker, etc (so it fits the tone of the scene)

How are people so good at fake crying? I can’t-
well idk if this works for others but it works for me. Basically if I was acting in a scene where it is very emotional, (lets say you found out your mom died in a car crash) and i would try to feel the pain emotionally so I could get myself to cry. It really well for me.
I usually just think of something sad or infuriating. I could probably cry, maybe think of those sad movies that made you cry? Idk

My interpretation-:
The forest is the reality. She is running away from reality because there is simply no escape from depression, the only escape is sleeping. So you don't have to think anymore. She looks at the magazines, so she dreams of that white pure house where she is ok.

My outlook on this: She's a homeless woman who runs away from something or someone that could have killed her. (Maybe she was in an abusive relationship or household). She had a magazine that showcased the perfect life and the perfect house. She wanted to have a life like that, she didn't want to live on in the life she has right now, so she started to dream about this perfect life. Her conscious had started perceive this as her reality since her brain wanted to believe that it was her reality so bad. Eventually, she started to come to her senses when she saw the pages in the magazine again. She realized that she didn't live or have this perfect life she wished for. She never did and maybe never will. I think her head injury is what portrayed the "coming back to her senses" bit.

My interpretation is that the real life is you in the woods and every night before bed you look at the magazine and see the life and home you wish you had. Living your dream life in your dreams causes you to look forward to nothing but going to bed every night and not want to wake up. I think you then start to convince yourself that your dream state is actually real life and that real life is just a bad dream.

My interpretation for this short film is as follows:
its a post apocalyptic world, where aliens took over the earth. shes running away from being captured by them and the only way to stay safe is to go to sleep, having lucid dreams (when she said "you cant get me in here"). hence the reason they threw a rock at her to try and wake her up. shes been in the apocalypse her whole life, thats why her "dream home" is just a normal small place with luxuries like tv and cereal.
thats just how i saw it since i love sci-fi so much 😂. the production and acting and story telling and editing was amazing. everyone did such a great job im so proud of you Kennedy 💕

She is embodying “anxiety” when you toggle back and forth between comfort, fear, happiness, sadness, etc.
i think her real life is the part in the woods, and every time before she goes to sleep she reads this magazine and imagine the life she wants. She keeps locking herself in this perfect life fantacy to keep herself from moving on and do something real with her life. maybe that's what she is actually running away from, the pressure of have a real life and doing things(maybe because anxiety)
That’s what I thought. And then when she said “you can’t get me in here” she was talking about the darkness inside of her not being able to get her while she was dreaming of her perfect life and then when the last scene came and you just saw her for a second in the woods before everything went black, the bad things like depression and anxiety finally got to her
I dont think she has any physical harm in the film, it is a mental one. Something is attacking her mind. The strange thing is, the woods are supposed to symbolize something, many things that are somehow connected to the being haunting her as she refers to it in a singular sense. But what Im not sure. There does seem to be a major issue with time, as huge portions of it seem to go missing and things happen to her that weren't there before. This leads me to believe, this entity, whatever it is seems to take over her mind or something.
But whats strange is I dont understand how this is hurting her even on a mental level and if it is at all physical and why she just cant leave the woods.
Why does she feel compelled to create some place in her mind to get away. This to me would require a substantial amount of trauma, something I truly hope isnt really possible in the world as it what heavily undermine existence and being here.
Also what is there to fear honestly. Why fear this being that clearly isnt human in appearance. What does that solve, why run away. Why no face it head on, why not attempt to reason with it, disown it, rebuke, something other than doing something that amounts to letting it have its way, or delaying the inevitable.
Id even go as far as to say why not fight to the last breath. So clearly there must be more going on here, perhaps more than this film can display any further beyond than the creepy woods.
Regardless this is upsetting me. I wish there was someway I could help.
The Goddess I think that when it comes to the question “why can’t she just leave the woods?” It always seems like she’s going deeper and deeper in as she slowly becomes more unhinged to the point where she can’t get out. I definitely agree with you on the fact that I don’t think it was physical harm so much as mental unhealthiness. What I was trying to say was that when the bad things finally got to her is that she reached her absolute mental breaking point. Maybe it did end in suicide because she never woke up or fell into the perfect world dream we had been seeing. The ending leaves so many possibilities for what happened next but I do think that it most likely ended in some kind of breakdown. It also depends on which scene is the dream. If it were the perfect world, it seems like Kennedy is a runaway or outcast dreaming of this perfect piece and enters it whenever she reads the magazine. However, if the runaway Kennedy world were the dream, it seems like she would be a girl trapped in the same exact thing everyday, yearning for excitement and a chance to run away and break free. Both show different problems and shine light on the life and problems of someone in a nice home with expectations set on them as well as someone who seems to never meet expectations or is unhappy and doesn’t have a home at all
Interpretation: your goal is to confuse the audience or make us think on which was the dream and which was the reality. The girl on woods looks at the magazine of her dream home every night before she sleeps and wakes up in that house and in a different life, she does her everyday routine like reading BOOKS which bring us to the next interpretation, she reads the book and dream of herself being the person on that book.

At first I thought the woods scene was the the dream/nightmare you were having, then came to realize that the woods was the reality and that "perfect home" was the dream. After that realization it did make me feel some emotion for the character you made, which is great! Especially when you were cleaning the blood from your face and crying, that part made me want to cry myself. Some thing that kind of caught my eye was when you dropped the book on the floor and you suddenly had socks on. KENNEDY I LOVED THIS!

Is it just me? Or the opening scene where she was in the forest to the whole bedroom waking up scene gave out a music video vibe?
My interpretation: At first I thought the jungle scene was a dream and then you wake up from it (I think that’s what you intended to as well). I (first) thought that the jungle is a lucid dream the protagonist comes unwillingly back to every night. She somehow manages to try and be as calm as possible within these lucid dreams and just to wait out until she wakes up again. BUT when the scene came with the shaky hands on the dream home thingy, I “realized” (“ “ because it’s only an interpretation of course) that the perfect home kinda scenes were the actual dreams. She’s living through something horrible out there in the woods/jungle and has lucid dreams about a somewhat safe place. For her that safe place is a perfect home, like the ones out of that magazine she found some day. It’s her dream to have that calm, structured life in that perfect home so that’s what she dreams of every night in her lucid dreams. It’s an escape from reality

Tbh it is really a quite interesting story, the part with an ominous creature lurking to get her, so she fends it off with a dream which she controls. It also makes sense why we only see two rooms, since the magazine, which I assume is her connection to her dream world, maybe only has the pictures of those rooms. Tbh i would really like to see this getting webbed into a proper movie and maybe even into a series of movies, since I think the way lucid dreaming works in this short film could really work well in a fleshed out series of movies. There are also many aspects of the short film which I think would be epic to expand upon, like the backstory of the girl, a vague concept of the creature that is hunting her, which could be more detailed the further into the movie we are. What would also be cool to get some sort of explaining how a monster cannot get people in their dreams. I really love this movie
