One paperclip can hold 3-4 picks, I use 3 paper clips for different sizes picks, I never have to fumble around to grab a new one when I inevitably drop one. Plus it's easier to switch picks for different songs/parts. Hope this helps ya'll.

    I will second the velcro cable ties. I have a bag of those and use them for every cable I have. (music, electrical, computer, etc).
    I would actually advise *against* the Fragile sticker though, studies have shown that packages actually get *worse* treatment with those stickers. And as a shipping manager I can also confirm this. Custom molded flight case would be awesome though.
    The phone on the pickups is brilliant, I'm going to start using that trick at practice!

    You missed a great one: Grolsch washers instead of straplocks. Much better and much cheaper. Got it from Wilco's guitarists.

    • @hiphophippy2439
      @hiphophippy2439 7 лет назад +18

      Agreed though any washer (or two) will do ... cheaper, less likely to get lost and lower profile when putting yr guitar down etc.
      Another one missed is to ALWAYS tune UP to the note, this eliminates string slack which will otherwise flatten the string after a bend, and if tuning by ear (always good to practice this now & again) you train your ears to hear the pitch approach accuracy from one direction, may sound weird (especially in writing) but it works.

    Hi Sensei, I'm an electronics engineer, and to the people saying that third prong causes the hum, they're living in a Topsy turvy town. The third prong ELIMINATES the hum. You can't totally eliminate it, but it reduces it to a negligible point. Also it is a safety ground. This has been your musical PSA

    I used to do the pickup listening trick at band practice. On some guitars you can even yell through the pickups, I've experienced it works better with EMGs, but as far as I know they are basically "rail" pickups with thick rails(found a video of someone taking an EMG apart) so it should work with passives. My brother's old Les Paul copy also works great for that

      Zebes 26 this is really a case by case thing. Every one is different as is every injury. I have dealt with it myself and the only advice I give is to make sure your instrument is properly set up, use a lighter gauge string if needed, and never practice through any sharp pains. Stop if it hurts.

      There was a warm up I learned that helps with this, if you go to play let's say an open G cord/C cord or any power cord where you press down hard start by just setting your hands over the string like hitting a harmonic and slowly press down until you hear the cord come out fully not only will this help your hands but it will fix some intonation issues you may or may not have

    I've always done the "cable strap tuck" between the strap and guitar body, but once I started using StrapLoks, the cable no longer gets "trapped" between the guitar's body and the strap. So, a couple years ago I also started attaching my cable to my strap with a cable tie before plugging it into the jack. It not only makes it even more difficult to pull the cable out of the jack, but it also helps protect the jack AND the cable's ¼" jack from being damaged, especially if you run the cable tie through one of the strap's unused button holes near the end of the strap.

    About 3...
    Try Audacity. It's free, regularly gets updated and has a ton of other features. If you just need to slow something down, load a track, select the part you want to slow down and apply the percentage you want it to get slowned down by. Doesn't change the pitch, looping also possible. I tried the other two programs recommended but they were either only demos or outdated as hell

    Removing the earth from the amp? Wtf? People really do that? I play guitar but to earn a living I'm an electrician and I spend a lot of time adding earth wires to stuff that people haven't wired up properly. The thought that someone would deliberately remove the earth wire from an amp makes me shudder. It's there for a reason and I know because I have got electric shock through my guitar strings using a faulty amp before.

    • @d0wnstars
      @d0wnstars 7 лет назад

      In my house is just one earth plug, it is for the wash machine. It is stupid but i don't know how to fix this. Is it expensive to let a professional root my wall socket?

    • @barrymcnicholl4140
      @barrymcnicholl4140 7 лет назад +1

      Easy frequency It's easy to put an earth wire into a socket and connect the other end to one of the cold water pipes. The problem is hiding the wires inside the walls so they can't be seen and this is where the expense comes in. You should remove the face of the socket and take a look behind it. You might get lucky and there could be a spare wire for the earth in there, depending on who originally wired the house.

    • @d0wnstars
      @d0wnstars 7 лет назад

      I use the cold water pipe to earth myself to get rid of the emf in my body. I just touch them and feel my body comes to rest. I have a old house from the 70s. I use a stop box and extension cable. I don't like the noise my amp make when it is not rooted. Thanks for the reply.

    • @toolguyslayer1
      @toolguyslayer1 6 лет назад

      Barry McNicholl if you're going to make an absolute answer ask some questions first some amplifiers have that third prime just for support some houses don't come with the third prime and if you only have a $20 amp you're probably not going to get the house rewired but your heart is in the right place it's in your pocket LOL

    • @toolguyslayer1
      @toolguyslayer1 6 лет назад

      Easy frequency if you are really worried about your amplifier getting get an extension cord with a ground for your amp make sure that the ground is actually connected to your electrical it may just be there because that was the only plug the electrician had the ground wire is to prevent arcing like lightning or Sparks otherwise it's relatively safe

    make your own nut sauce: a 2 dollar tube of graphite for lubricating locks, a pea sized dab of Vaseline or silicone o-ring lube, mix the tube of graphite after cutting it open with one of the other ingredients, load into an eye dropper, et voila! nut sauce for about 4 bucks as opposed to 15.99. what you have made is a lifetime supply not only for you but for your children, grand children, and friends.

    At the end of each playing session run a cloth through the strings of your guitar. This will remove some of the dirt in the strings and lengthen they life. Keep this cloth in your guitar bag/case, it'll come in handy
    Also, loosing the strings when you're going to travel will protect the strings from temperature changes that might be detrimental

      probably a little chunk of grapithe in the nut. press your string against the headstock a few times, or pull on the neck, it should lodge it out.

    • @SuperGuevara1
      @SuperGuevara1 7 лет назад +8

      I had the same problem. It turned out the string vibrated better which is good but not if your action is low. Just raise the bridge a bit or loosen the truss rod to accommodate. You may have to fix the intonation after.

    • @henkdevries7336
      @henkdevries7336 6 лет назад

      Rest From War OFFICIAL Maybe what they say about the graphite chunk is the case. If not, another thing what comes to my mind is that you may have accidentally touched something near your bridge, while your strings were off of your guitar that could've caused this problem.
      This doesn't necessarily have to be the case, but on my Les Paul for instance, the screws where the bridge with saddles is on, can be twisted in a little deeper, so that the action became a little lower. The nut could have a little deeper groove on the D string, while your E and A strings don't seem to have any problems.
      Good luck!

    Periodically twist your knobs back and forth to clean the contacts. Buy contact cleaner for the jack. Slide a little piece of wire insulation down the string for tremolos to extend string life (SRV trick). Slide a polish cloth under the strings to get the grease off the neck.

    Well in return for all the awesome advice, I'll give you RUclips advice. The 10 minute mark. Your channel is amazing, and if you make your videos 10 minutes or longer, RUclips's algorithm will help you get more views.
    Love your channel keep up the great work 😃

      Hey man, I appreciate that, but I believe your info is outdated. The algorithm is always changing and the most up to date info I have is that 6-8mins is the current sweet spot.
      I think I'd also prefer to have a shorter higher quality video than a longer worse one that the algorithm likes more. Thanks so much!

      Quality over quantity... It would be worse if he pad it with useless stuff just to make it longer.

      Tom Nook the amp may not be worth it, but your life is worth it. Don't use the amp until you replace the power cable. In a U. S. 120V three prong power cable you have the Line, or Hot wire which provides the voltage to the appliance, in this case your amp, this is a black wire, and it is connected to the right blade of the plug, when looking at the prong side of the plug, with the rounded "Ground" prong on the bottom. Next is the Neutral wire, which provides the return path to ground for the electricity coming in from the Line wire. The Neutral wire is white, and is connected to the left blade of the plug. The third wire is the Ground wire, and is connected to the rounded prong on the plug. The green wire is connected to the chassis of the amp, and provides a path to Ground should a short occur between the "Live side" of the electrical circuit and the chassis. This helps protect you from being hit by 120 VAC, at an average of 10-15 amps. It only takes 1/10th of one amp to stop the heart, and if you touch the "live" chassis, say to adjust the volume, or tone controls, the path-to-ground now travels from the chassis, through your arm, down your body while crossing your heart, and out the bottom of your feet. At the least it hurts, at worst it is deadly. I don't know your knowledge level on the subject, but should you want to know more about the basic wiring, and why it is important, you could start here:

    Use the rubber gaskets from flip top beer bottles as strap locks. You can find them on a Dutch beer called Grolsch. They work like a charm. And they're perfect for weird back side strap buttons on an SG for example. I wouldn't recommend doing guitar flips with them but your guitar will be secured. I don't recommend doing guitar flips period.

    How about using velcro stuck together (the sticky sides, not the hook sides) as harmonic dampeners or using the thin stuff as cable ties. Lots of videos telling you how to do it.

    gear ties are pretty dope for cables too. Relatively cheap and they aren't as inconvenient as twist ties. Cable straps are still bae though.
