Watched this twice while building some maps. Thanks again! Still a little nervous running an online game (I'm a tabletop person that moved to a new city and jonesing out for DnD).
Awesome! I am so glad you found it helpful! That is why I made this series! I know it can be overwhelming running an online game as it adds the technical stuff on top of the GM notes and references for the adventure. Just remember to breathe and have fun!
Greetings and Salutations sir. I have never played any kind of tabletop game like Dungeons & Dragons in my life and I am interested in knowing how to play. While I was on the youtube channel, I found some interesting D&D game from other player as well from a few DMs. I would like to get into this genre, but the basic skills I do not have and do not know how to go about creating a specific character, their skills, their disadvantages, and advantages. I am glad that you have begun this project and I hope to follow you in all that you do.
It sounds like you have watched several D&D 5e videos. If you have specific questions, I can offer some guidance and suggestions. I do have a few general answers: On Roll20, if you want to play online, you can find lots of games looking for players for D&D, and all kinds of other RPGs. You can get the D&D core rules for free here: dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules. The D&D Starter Set has some pre-generated character and walks through the basics. It also has an introductory module. You can get that at you local game store, if you have one, or use my Amazon Affiliate link above. The D&D Player's Handbook walks through how to create a character, but you must have one. You can buy all the D&D materials from your local game store, or use my Amazon Affiliate links above. (I just updated the description on this video to include my affiliate links.)
Thank you very much. I appreciate any advise/help that I can get. I have signed-up for Roll20 as your video suggested. And I am now looking over the D&D rules link your sent me. I do not know of any stores in my area that sell D&D materials, unless I specifically asked.
We didn't have videos to explain how to play the game 40 years ago. We just sort of figured it out as we went. The key is to start slow and build a piece at a time. I often describe role playing games as "make believe with rules."
thnx this is a really confusing application to use when you start out. I'm trying to turn my works of literature into campaigns since my discord buddies keep telling me to do it.
Glad to help! I homebrew my own games on Roll20, and yes, there is a lot to do. But once you have it, it it easy to use it in other games, or run pickup games using the existing game.
@@Followmeanddie if u have a discord or something id love to add you so i can have someone who knows what their doing on hand in case of any questions that pop up. very informative though ill be watching the series.
Sorry, no. It was my brother the DM teasing me when my character couldn't find more mercenaries to go fight the orcs as all the others had died. I have a video where I explain it, as well as on my podcast and blog.
You were incredibly insightful and had a wealth of great knowledge, but you gotta get to the points your making and move on so the video isn't 30 minutes long. Its youtube, so if someone needs to rewind or pause they can. Dont allow that burden to fall on you. Thank you again, your video overall was tremendously helpful
You'll have to type in all the stats to the character sheet in the campaign you want to play in. If there is a way to upload a file with the stats, I am not aware of it, and it would be a paid feature. I am focusing on free features until I have covered them all, then I will consider adding features only available for paid subscriptions. If you have an existing character in a Roll20 campaign, there is a feature for paid users that allows you to transfer characters between Roll20 campaigns.
ALL COOL BUT HOW DO I GET BACK TO THE HOME SCREEN????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
To get to the home screen of Roll20? You either open a new tab and go to Roll20 or exit the game to be returned to the Roll20 Home screen. Or did you mean something else?
@@azathothwakesup I've interacted with those who had issues in one browser and not another. My guess would be that the Browser Profile of the problem browser has an issue. You can try creating a shortcut that creates a new browser profile. Lots of examples on Google. That will allow you to see if it's something in your current browser profile without losing any settings. Alternatively, you can try clearing the cache and cookies and uninstalling extensions on the problem browser.
There is a lot for the GM to juggle in setting up a Roll20 campaign.
„Welcome to follow me and die!“ that, my friends, is the best introduction line if ever heard. Instant like! 🤙🏻
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Man, you've got a great tone for explaining, thank you so much!
Thanks!
Thank you for actually starting at the beginning. So many "beginners" videos start halfway through the process :)
Thanks! There's a lot that too many think is obvious when showing how something works.
GOD BLESS YOU, this tutorial is very helpful! I'm GMing my first campaign and this is exactly what I needed, thank you so much!
Awesome! I'm glad it helped!
Thank you for the informative video, I'm running my first game on Roll20 tomorrow and I appreciate the help!
Great! So glad I could help!
Thanks Larry. Helped a ton starting up my Roll20 GM carreer. You seem like a guy who'd be fun to have a beer with. Cheers!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. Was incredibly useful and informative and allowed my group to keep playing during the social distancing.
Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful!
This is a very clear and simple how to use roll20. You did very well.
Thanks! I tried to hit the high points so that it would be useful, and help new users get up and running quickly.
I've posted a link for this video to a discord server because there was some people that was confused about how to use roll20. This video helped them.
Awesome! I've known others to share a link to this on their Discord server. Thanks!
Ohh shit you look like a Master level D&D uncle. Bet this is a great video
Thank YOU!!! Espescially right now that me and my friends can't visit each other, this helps a lot
You're welcome! Glad I could help!
Thanks, the video might not have been polished, but it was very accessible and informative! It's certainly helped me a lot
Thanks! I knew it had good information and I'm glad it was helpful!
God I love how you casually say "Follow Me, And Die"

I started watching a group of individuals play "Curse of Strahd"

Ah an Anthrax fan right? Follow Me or Die...classic line from Among the Living

is there not a tutorial game which runs itself, showing a player how to play?
Roll20 does have their own tutorial.
Many people have found my little effort helpful.
RIGHT?!?!?
I 1st would like to go in as a player, I hardly have any expertise in being a GM.
I keep on trying to create an account. I enter my correct email but it keeps says invalid format
I've had my account nearly 5 years. Issues of creating and accessing accounts on Roll20 are best directed at their support and forums.
Do you use Dungeon Painter Studio?
I have used the online version to make some dungeon maps for one of my games.
htf do I upload a character to Roll20
