    What Bourbon would you like to receive as a gift? Also, do you agree with my list? If not, which Bourbon would you add or remove?

      Hey Daft Cask! Yes! I am trying to provide gift ideas for many price ranges and "out of box" picks as it seems most people give the same "boring" bourbon as a gift every year (or worse, give the wrong type of whiskey). It would be nice to mix it up and hopefully get something that person either hasn't had or haven't had in a long time.
      Let me know what bottles you would add or remove from the list!
      Thank you, as always, for your awesome comment and view! I greatly appreciate it and cheers~

      Hey Keith! Thank you! I was trying to be a little "out of the box", but also trying to stay close to it as I didn't want to suggest something crazy. Hopefully I was able to fly within that middle idea with my recommendations.

      Hey Gandy Road! Thank you for your kind words! Maybe I put too much thought as it became a 20 minute video! 😂 (it was intended to be a 10 minute video). Oh well, hopefully it helps some folks out by gifting a nice bottle, but also people like us who might receive gifts as we'll hopefully get a nice "out of the box" bottle! (and not a single malt 😮‍💨).

      Hey Dave! Of course! That's the reason I came up with the categories and hopefully one of them will fit the need as a gift! 😆. Maybe I thought of too many categories as it was a 20 minute video (never intended to be this long 😂).
      I'm sure you have many friends and family that you need to gift for so hopefully my video helped! Let me know which bottle you would add or remove from my list as I'm curious on your thoughts.

    Great video David. People who dont drink or know about bourbon really need to hear the advice you gave about not listening to big box liquor store employees recommendations.
    I avoid most total wine employees like the plague. I think Ive been told how “first call” and “chestnut farms” are nectar of the gods enough to last me a lifetime.

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Glen! Yes! That was so important, I had to re-record that section as my original filming didn't work 😆. I received so many of those from Total Wine as gifts that I now tell my friends and family to just ask me before they buy as it's just a waste of their hard earned money 😂. It's not bad bourbon, but definitely not great.

      I hear what you're saying Glen about recommendations from large liquor store employees. Although as a counterpoint, a Total Wine employee (in SoCal) recommended Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon to me and my wife. We gave it a go and have enjoyed it quite a bit, especially given the $45 price tag. So, at least in this one instance, we weren't led astray.
      David, first-rate video and recommendations. I'm really enjoying your content. Keep it coming. Cheers!

      @@UCLAMike1992 Hey Mike! Thank you for the awesome words! I think there are three good ones that Total Wine employees recommend: 1. Still Austin Cask Strength 2. Ironroot Harbinger Cask Strength 3. Old Emmer Wheat Cask Strength. All at around $45 to $50 and all good. But one too many times, they recommend something that is just not very good unfortunately.
      But I do shop at Total Wine often so I guess I can't complain 😆

    Great advice and ideas David! As of now my family and friends have seen what I have on my shelf and hope it helps with the idea for a gift. One of my friends knew what I drink and gets me a 1 liter bottle of Don Q rum from Puerto Rico as gift and has been sitting there for the past 2 ys. 😂 Great video as usual and cheers!

      Hey Jesus! That's what always happens! My friends and co-workers get me whiskey, but definitely not the right kind and either I re-gift them or they sit on my shelf for years~ Hopefully this video will help at least one person get their ideal bottle and it'll be all worth it!!

    You're right about the Barrell releases. I'd like to try them all, but it's not in the budget.

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  10 месяцев назад

      Barrell as so many releases now (store picks, ryes, new year, batches, seagrass, vantage, etc.) that I can't keep up with them all! (I wish I had the funds to do so 😆). And with so many other new bourbons out there, it is hard to keep buying every release. Hopefully you can share this video to a friend or family member of yours and you'll get a Barrell Batch 35 as a gift this holiday season! 😂

      I haven’t tried it yet but I saw the barrell foundations bottle at total wine today for $59.99. Might be good for someone wanting to try barrell and for someone who doesnt want cask strength bourbon all the time.

      @@GLENBECKHAM OH yeah! Great suggestion Glen! I forgot about this release. It's hard to keep up with so many releases these days. It seems like every week, there are like 10 new releases! 😅. With so many new distilleries and all these releases, prices will come down to compete for our business (probably not, but one can hope).

    • @GLENBECKHAM
      @GLENBECKHAM 10 месяцев назад +1

      I wanted to try it but I had a bookers 2023-04 in my hand. Didnt have the budget for it. Maybe next time.
      Funny you say that about the prices coming down. I have noticed a few things getting lower. For example. I got bookers “ mighty fine batch” for 83.99 and henry mckenna is now $55 at total wine. It was $75 a month ago. Oh yeah. Saw makers 46 today for $29. Last time it was 35. So some things are slowly coming back to earth.

    David,
    Great ideas !
    I just wish I had true bourbon guys on my l list. You know... someone who knows the difference between a bottle of Seagram's 7 and an Eagle Rare. To hear "yeah, it was good with diet coke" just is something that you just can't un-hear. I envy the groups that live close enough to do bottle shares and holiday gifting.
    Love the suggestion of Ben Holladay and Fiddler ! I feel that most bourbon lovers (in our area especially) may not have these selections.
    Keep em coming.
    Dana

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Dana! I agree with you that gifting a bottle of bourbon to a "causal" drinker is probably not the best way to go. I also wish I lived closer to the "city" as there are many bourbon meetings and groups, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to go to any of them as they are far. Maybe if I get a little more following down here, we can make our own group!
      I was trying to aim for a selection that isn't "boring" or something that most bourbon lover would have. It took some thought, but maybe I put too much thought into it as it was a 20 minute video. LOL.
      Thanks for always being there to view and comment on my videos! Truly appreciate it and cheers my friend~

    The true first of all is, don't receive a gift and crap on it, it's just rude

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  9 месяцев назад

      Hey Brandon! That is so true! I should have said that in the beginning. Of course the person who gave me the Balvenie 14 thinks I'm going to enjoy it greatly (and I will), but would I have enjoyed a bourbon more (at the same price point)? Most likely yes, and that was the point of the video. I'm a huge Broncos/Nuggets fan, but it would be like getting Rockies tickets. I would enjoy it, but at similar costs, would enjoy the others more. When giving a gift, it is important to, not only give a nice gift, but know the receiver so they will enjoy it as well. It's a win/win for all parties if that is done right.
      But you're right, I shouldn't complain (and I won't) and will enjoy it as much as I can. I do like trying new whiskeys and this one will be a new one for sure! Let's hope I am wrong and enjoy it more than bourbons!
      Thanks a ton for your view and insight comment! Super appreciate it and cheers~

    The only of these bottles I can find for a normal price around here is the Wild Turkey Rare Breed, would you say that's a good Bourbon for someone who wants to get into whiskeys and is still trying to find out what they like, or should I start with some of the more common/cheaper bottles until I tasted enough to have a better idea of what I like and what I am after.

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Stonesaber! I would say a Rare Breed would be the perfect gift for someone that wants to get into whiskey! Don't listen to people who say try the lower end stuff to get acclimated. It's true to a certain extent but I didn't fall in love with bourbons until I had my first Booker's! Rare Breed would be a great gift and something that person can add water or ice to proof it down if needed to customize it 😎.
      Hopefully this was helpful to you. If you have more questions, let me know!

    What a great video! Two off topic questions… is that a Bond and Lillard over your left shoulder… and what is that bottke on your fridge? I can’t make it out.
    I love ASW Fiddler Georgia Heartwood! Man! That is such a solid pour! Baller pick right here! Old Carter! WOW!!! Nice!
    Awesome video as always! Cheers and Enjoy! 🥃

      Hey Whiskey Panda! That is the Bond and Lillard (batch 2) on my shelf and the bottle on my fridge is the Rare Character Exceptional Series that just came to Southern California a couple of weeks ago. I was very lucky to be able to get one. I did a review of the bond & lillard and while it's a solid bottle, it was not worth the $50 (for 375ml bottle).
      The ASW Fiddler Georgia Heartwood and Old Carter are some of my favorite bottles of 2023 and I made this video so maybe (hoping) that my family and friends will see this and gift me a bottle! LOL. Probably not but one can dream!
