Venue owners feel let down by Austin leaders

- Joe Ables, the owner of Saxon Pub, opened the venue 30 years ago. He now sits in his bar wondering why he and so many other local venues did not receive funding from the city amid the pandemic. Saxon Pub is known for having live music every night.
Saxon Pub is an Austin institution and it amazes me the way city leaders have treated not only Joe, but the entire live music scene, and the musicians that make Austin the supposed "Live Music Capital of Texas". They'll miss it when it's gone! Thank you Joe for the marvelous job you have done to keep live music alive.
Joe Ables, I love you and the Saxon Pub so much. It makes no sense that your club wouldn't be one of the first to receive funds.
I love Austin. I had the opportunity to visit some years ago and was blown away by the many fun places to go.
It is no longer the cool Austin it once was.

I sure want to see that list of 28 venues. How about it, Statesman? Can you dig that up for us?
Yeah lets see how many of those 28 have deep family or business connections with city officals
There wouldn't be a list, showing which venues received the grants, would there?
Incompetent & hypocritical city leaders. They have their priorities in the wrong place. Some of our favorite venues may never come back..
Speed was the original owner. But its not fair what they are doing to Joe. You might not like Joe but he has always been there for the musicians and loyal above and beyound to the city. Yes Hes made bad presumptions about certain people through gossip. When it was actually Steven ray will. But he didn't know. Go get em Joe. Plus his wife Judy is so effervescently classy. Even if their daughter Jodie is a pill.
