The point is not "FLOOR vs / or TARJA" but is "FLOOR & TARJA" !!! Nightwish has had / has two of the best singers of all time in the genre and has managed to transcend and continue to genuinely evolve their musical art.

Annette produced the two best selling albums for Nightwish. She was also a talented singer, was chosen out of 3000 candidates. I like her studio records as well. Live she had good and not so good moments as well, but she was a lovely person.
So, I would say "Tarja & Annette & Floor". All of the singers had great contribution.
This was Tarja's last show - she was given the letter at the end of this performance. The DVD is called End of an Era.
I think that it was immediately after this exact concert that the band gave Tarja the infamous letter that informed her of being dismissed from the band.

It always amazes me that the 4 members of the band managed to perform so well and have so much chemistry with Tarja in this show whilst knowing full well they were about to fire her!!!
first, thanks for not comparing. Tarja and Floor have 2 different styles because they are two different NW eras, Tarja's era was more of symphonic metal and it was what the band wanted at that time. second, the "battle of voices" at the end seems amazing to me. their voices are very different but they combine very well. You can also hear them in songs like the siren, slaying the dreamer or planet hell in this same show. and this was the last show with Tarja where the last song was wish i had an angel. Third, from Tarja's solo career I can suggest: mein herr marquis, o mio babbino caro, ave maria etc (opera style), dead promises, victim of ritual, anteroom of death, in for a kill etc (symphonic metal style) , walk alone, mystic voyage, into the sun etc (ballad style), innocence (official video that talks about domestic violence), love to hate (in Metropolis), house of wax, etc (songs out of her style, very good), paradise, demons in you, goodbye stranger (duos with within temptation, Alissa White and Cristina scabbia respectively), supremacy (cover Muse in Woodstock). Well, I left you many options to choose from. greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷.
Tarja recorded last month a cover of "Sleeping Sun" which she used to sing with Nightwish. She recorded this with a finnish band called Steve'n'Seagulls in a finnish shack. You should check and react to that. IT'S AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tarja was told immediately after this concert via the infamous letter that she was done. The band knew in advance, but she had no idea this was her last performance with Nightwish. And it was captured on DVD for all time. I have watched the whole concert and you can see the emotions on their faces quite clearly. Jukka apparently had a migraine headache throughout, You can see him slumped over his drum kit with his arms pressed to the back of his head when he wasn't playing. It is such a marvelous and strange concert to watch knowing what is going on.
Have you watched the RUclips-video about "Marco Hietala-Vocal evolution?" There you can see him sooo young at -80's and 90's and see his career from those times to Nightwish etc. He is so talented! And he was so cute! 😍

This was back in 2005, directly after this concert Tarja got the famous letter... Thats why the DVD is called "End of an era".

Floor loves this song, and did a more contemporary version with Henk Poort (the Dutch Phantom) on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers. They used this Nightwish composition as the basis of their version. VERY cool as well. Not comparing, but you should see how they did. I thought it was amazing.

Everything I've heard indicates that Tarot pretty much ended when their drummer died back in 2016 - that they all felt they didn't have the heart to go on without Pecu since he'd been there from the beginning. They didn't even come together for the Henry's Pub farewell livestream concert earlier this year. Tuple did a couple of songs solo, Janne Tolsa wasn't there at all, then Marko and Zachary Hietala did a Black Sabbath cover together and Marko did Isäni ääni solo.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" is musical theatre. It's a musical that is set in an opera production. Many of the characters are opera singers. They have to perform it for a theatre, not an opera house. Most performers in PotO are musical theater singers, not opera singers.
Your mother is correct to insist "Phantom of the Opera" is not an opera.
Ah Marko. Yes, he could be an actor. He's in the film that the album is named after, Imaginaerum, of course. But that is a music-based film. Pitch at the end? Well, it felt a bit sharp to me.

She was up on a high d, Marco a g5 at the end, they are both amazing, if I could, I’d have Marco’s babies, haha. He’s the man, and just epic all around, for this to any kind of music he chooses to make.

Cannot and will not ever change my mine, Marko is hands down the best male vocalist to have existed.
I heard in another reaction video that it is a D6, whereas in the original musical it is supposed to be an E6. On the Beste Zangers' show, Floor also hits a D6 at the end.
Another reactor suggested this is because Nightwish's arrangement is in a different key than the ALW original. I can't speak to how accurate this is.
I've read that ALW originally had the final note as a F6 or G6, but changed it to E6 so Sara Brightman, the original Christine, could consistently hit the note after many performances.
I think both Tarja and Floor can sing the E6 just fine, but choose not to.
*Brian May* did almost all of the composing and *Freddie* most of the lyrics in *QUEEN*
*Brian* not only wrote the musical score for the *_"Highlander"_* movies, but he also composed the *_"Mad Max"_* movie scores too. Along with many many more TV & Movie work.
*So technically speaking..* *Brian* is more comparable to *Tuomas* . And *Freddie* is more comparable to *Floor*. Don't hate me... I'm just saying... tee hee !

Apparently Marko sang Painkiller in his younger days, and I'm so disappointed there's no video of it anywhere.

When you said you can't figure out Marko's pitch, the long note preceding was an F, then he glides without specific notes until the key goes up a full step. His long note there is a G. He stays on G for "Scream, scream," up a half-step to A-flat "scream," then down a fourth to E-flat "my angel." Then you asked if that was a D. I assume you meant Tarja's high note. It starts on the E-flat a fifth above Marko's A-flat and resolves to D.
Tarja's collab on Over The Hills And Far Away is interesting. Don't remember who it was with, though. As far as Tuomas...it's not just talent. It's the deeper thoughts and feelings he brings. It's the heart of the band that I love, more than the music itself.
You're damn right you don't want to compare Tarja and Floor - like you said - it doesn't make sense, because while they're both great, they're both very different. You're right, some fans are making videos where they try to put Tarja and Floor together - like you said and I agree with you - it's pointless, I'm not interested. But it would be totally different to see Tarja and Floor together on stage, live. Impossible? On the contrary - such a recording exists! I'll be honest, I believe comparing them can be very helpful. They are both beyond gifted but have very different and equally valid approaches. Contrasting, and also finding points of similarity can help both look at their respective toolkits, and artistic visions.
That said, it is a little hard to do this in a healthy manner. In a way, Floor is as erudite as Tarja and had all of her body of work and the preparation and cunning to build on top so shes managed to make an advantage of what usually would be an impossible situation.
Anyway, just wanted to say that perhaps an emphasis in their artistic choices and how these allow them to showcase their incredible talent.
Probably listening to over the hills and far away, where they share the stage, could be the perfect way of getting there.
Suffice to say, I have massive respect for both and love listening to Tarjas more energetic parts of her solo career (beyond belief). And enjoyed Nightwishes recent online concert immensely.
Anyway, I'll say that my favorite of the two has to be both :P
And yeah, is Marko human? Seriously, the talent pool in Nightwish is beyond measure.
Also started listening to Annete, she's very gifted. But sandwiched between those two godly divas, and given the incredible arrangements Floor made of her pieces she is sadly set aside.
Anyway, my point is that comparing them can be very positive but it has to be about artistic approaches and how these can benefit different voice types.
Sad Tarja left, but Floor is incredible and Tarja is a very solid solo performer, so maybe it was for the best :)

Amazing with songs that were written for her but struggled a bit live with songs that was written for Tarja.
Tarja's a dark Soprano. Annette is a bright soprano. Floor is a mixture of both bright & dark.
Dark Passion Play, with Anette, is one of Nightwish's biggest bought albums, its so good :)
Marco had an operation on his throat in his younger years & Drs said that he wouldnt sing again.
Marco said, challenge excepted. Thats possibly where he got that raspiness from, in his singing.

This has definitely been commented 20 times at least, but they removed Tarja from the band at the end of this show. Marko wasn’t nearly as interactive with her at this point in the set because he knew it was coming to an end in a few minutes

It is one of the most unnatural awkward video's I have ever seen... The singing is great though.
Well, you know that song was written for the Finnish movie Lieksa!, right? So the video was just Marko and Tuomas green-screened in front of bits of the movie. I agree, it's a pretty unnatural and awkward video, but it's not like the guys were actually acting/interacting with the actual movie actors there.
The video for Noise shows what I would call some actual acting by Marko and the rest of Nightwish - I loved Marko's performance as the "miracle cure" salesman hawking the pills for every ill.

What gets me about Nightwish post Tarja is that the band lost the operatic element that made me fall in love. Floor's amazing. And signs like a dream. But that's not her vibe and I really really miss that vibe.

About Tarja's resignation, it really was a dramatic episode. It happened immediately after this show, on October 21, 2005. The relationship between her and the band had not been good for some years. Because of this, Tarja decided to leave and communicated her decision to the group. Tarja wanted to make her decision public and prepare fans for the change of vocalist, but Tuomas convinced her not to make it public until the recording of a next album after "Once". It turns out that, unlike agreed, the group planned and wrote a letter of resignation to Tarja without her knowing it. At the end of the show "End of an Era", the band delivered the letter to Tarja, with the recommendation that she should not read it at that time. The following day that same letter was published on the band's website. In short, the band accused Tarja of being a diva and also attacked her husband, Marcelo. After the accusations made by the band, Tarja's husband came out in defense of her. He received, answered and made available on the internet more than 140 answers to questions sent by fans from all over the world. Tarja also wrote a public letter responding to the group. In it, she did not attack the band. In short she said she was shocked and sad, and said that she did not recognize herself in the description that the band made of her. In this letter Tarja doesn't explain much. She gives more details at a press conference. You can find this interview here on RUclips. Tarja's dismissal was completely unnecessary. She had already told the group, approximately 2,5 years in advance, that she would leave the band. It seems to me that the group tried to punish her for that decision by launching a public letter with attacks on her and her husband. If any differences were unbearable, it would be enough to end the contract in a civilized manner, as any mature person does. Because of the way the things went the band lost a lot of fans. Many of my friends, for example, stopped listening to Nightwish at the time. For me, the letter says more about the band than about Tarja. Nightwish's fan base was reconfigured with the change of style and the entry of Anette and then Floor. Many of the original fans no longer follow the band and neither Tarja, because the style she adopted in her solo career is different. I love her work on Nightwish as much as her new style. Some former dissident fans returned to listening to Nightwish after Floor joined. Many longtime Nightwish fans know and like Floor since her original band After Forever. The dismissal episode was not the first time that the band acted in a bad manner. For example, Tarja was attacked once, in the middle of a show in Guadalajara, and the band did nothing. At the ocasion, a crazy guy invaded the stage and tried to sexual abuse Tarja, but the band continued playing as if nothing was happening. They also did nothing in the backstage. Tarja was conforted by Marcelo at the time, a person the group just had known. Incidentally, Anette, the second vocalist, was also fired. She was pregnant, fell ill during the tour and had to go to the hospital. Then, the group decided to replace her with Floor. Returning to the issue of attempted sexual abuse, it is mentioned in the band's own biography and also has videos here on RUclips:

I've never been one to directly compare Tarja and Floor. It's simple, they are different people with different skill sets at the very top of their game. More importantly, I think what happened needed to happen to have the later Nightwish that I enjoy more. I'll be honest, while her ability is stunning, I cannot listen to many songs in a row with Tarja. I do enjoy her voice and talent, but I just grow a little bored after a few songs. I think a drastic change to someone like Anette was good to shake up the songwriting and add a whole new set of flavors vocally. I do enjoy the albums, but can't do much live with her. This all paved the way for Floor to come in and do what she does best, a BROAD palette of styles and technique to really put the right edge (especially live) on the whole collection as well as the new albums. She just has that thing that makes me melt right into the seat with a smile. What really hurts though is the departure of Marko. I fully support his decision to live his life his way, but man, what a loss to Nightwish. I can only hope they rebuild again to shake things up for the forward progression of the band.

This is created a bit of bad blood in the fanbase for some time. Many people who write about Nightwish in comments seem to "gloss over this detail" (maybe because they werent there and have no clue ... or because they found Nightwish with Floor and dont really care).
The quintessential Tarja song with Nightwish, for me, is "Sleeping Sun". Not heavy at all, but a beautiful ballad. Either the original 1999 video (ruclips.net/video/UGfKMV5AbMI/видео.html - I prefer that one, also her singing style is less operatic here than in later years), or the live performance (ruclips.net/video/E_RRMRXJWxI/видео.html) from the 2005 "End of an Era" concert which also included the "Phantom of the Opera" you just reacted to.
