Agreed 100%. I don’t know why people keep saying “oh it’s so slow”. It’s not designed to be fast. It’s designed to be a great adventure vehicle. Plenty of room for 5 people. Plenty of storage in the back. Can pull a kayak trailer. It’s AWD. One of the top safety rated companies. It gets awesome mpg. It has 8”+ ground clearance. Oh and it’s less than $25k if you get the manual transmission. To me that is one hell of a vehicle.
All sorts of wrong here. The Crosstrek's interior isn't too bad considering I'm leasing an Impreza. The only thing I don't like is the cloth seats or what Subaru calls it "tricot" which I do agree on. Not really the softest material but it's alright. The rest of it is fine. I don't know why Roman is complaining about the interior when it just said on the "Top 10 Current Automotive Trends We Don't Dig," he doesn't dig push-button or dial transmission, complicated interiors/functions, etc. It's typical Roman, he's not a fan of Japanese. That's why I prefer Nathan when it comes to Japanese. At least he can do a better job. Message to Jeep: Why is the Crosstrek here? The Crosstrek competes with the Renegade. The Compass competes with the Forester. Not too mention the Tucson and Sportage will outrun this Compass in terms of everything. If Jeep had the balls get the Tucson and Sportage with AWD. They need to pull up their game. What a bad review and a bad selection. This is pathetic.
I'm glad someone else noticed the Crosstrek doesn't compete with the Compass but rather the Renegade. The Jeep Reengade competes with the Subaru XV Crosstrek. The Jeep Compass competes with the Subaru Forester. The Jeep Cherokee competes with the Subaru Outback. And the Jeep Grand Cherokee will likely compete against Subaru's next 7-passenger crossover (B9 Tribeca replacement). I feel like Jeep chose these cars to deliberately make the Compass Trailhawk look better. If they had brought a Forester or Forester XT in, it may possibly make the Compass Trailhawk seem not so good, considering the Forester is a close 2nd to the Compass Trailhawk's 1st in class off-road capability.
Oh, just like how Cadillac had the CTS which was between the size of a BMW 3-series and a BMW 5-series. Terrible idea IMO. Hell, Cadillac brought up the size of the CTS to a BMW 5-series so there is now direct competition instead of a vehicle that's too big in one size class but too small in another size class.
unfair comparison, Jeep chose their top of the line model vs the base model or popular models. Jeep should have used KIA's SX and Hyundai the limited turbo version.
As a former owner of a Jeep Patriot (same as the Compass, just boxier body style), I can tell you the MAIN difference with the Jeep is all of those other cars will still be on the road years after the Jeep is crushed and buried in a junk yard. Buying a Jeep was the biggest automotive mistake I ever made.
So Jeep only picks FWD competitors? That makes no sense. TUCSON AND SPORTAGE all the way! They're trying to make their 'compass' look better against some cars that don't even compete.
For the record, on the Tucson and Sportage, Roman said the city mpg and not the combined mpg, so make sure you're paying attention to the text on the bottom of the screen at that time.
I'm not really sure how you can say the Jeep is the best offroad without actually testing it. For example, the Jeep has a ground clearance of 8.1 inches, while the Crosstrek is 8.7. The higher center of gravity could be an issue too. The Jeep's primary advantages are tire width and (I think) legit 4x4 instead of AWD. I don't understand why those Hyundai or Kia models were offered for testing. They don't even seem to be in the same class.
Josh Lum no, they didn't crash it. they just put it to the test the way Subaru portrays their outbacks in every commercial. Come to find out outback isn't as off road worthy as subaru want you to believe.
Allen D. I bet you have never owned a Hyundai. You are just bias and butt hurt because you dislike Korean cars. They are actually pretty reliable. This isn't the 1980s anymore
Roman, if you remember, it wasn't until the mid 1990's that all European cars had black dashboards on top because black doesn't reflect sunlight against the windshield as much as light colors do.
Unfortunately this video comparison just feels more biased than any other videos they have done. I get that it was a Jeep sponsored video but let's keep it unfavored TFL
KentB27 it was more the part where they kept the competitors vehicles review super super short and had like half the video on Jeep. I know that Jeep made it that way on purpose.
They chose the front wheel drives to compare with their AWD drive vehicle. Rigged is right. But it backfired on them because the host didn't choose the Jeep outright.
This is not a Jeep sponsored video. No one is paying TFL or Roman to review these cars. As Roman stated these vehicles were provided by Jeep. Full Stop! Please note that his does not mean that Jeep sponsored the video.
Let me get this straight, the comparisons were the off-road edition of the Jeep Compass versus the baseline/black top versions of other vehicles that are not it's competition? The Crosstrek is compared to the Renegade so of course it will feel small versus the Compass. The comment about the Crosstrek being slow is not wrong but not right either. Who was driving it? I know it can get to 70 on an on-ramp just fine so unless your track was 1/16 mile then it is user error. Next, comparing front wheel editions versus AWD/4x4 editions is a pathetic marketing ploy. This whole video was pointless to anyone looking for actual comparisons by semi competent reviewers/journalists.
And why does the 2.4 engine suck? It has been reliable for me and I have heard of no reliability issues with this engine. As for the 9 speed, it shifts kind of jerky but the rumor that they are failing left and right is total malarkey. Nearly a million of these transmissions are on cars on the road and 99.9999% of them are driving with no issues.
pdgable well, firstly the 2.4 is slow, it's in a lot of fiat/Chrysler products, gets weak fuel mileage. I said nothing about these transmissions failing, although there have been complaints of the 9A failing, I personally think the combination is crap, why can't fiat or Chrysler produce a new turbo engine that's not the 1.4, and put it in this jeep? They need a 2.0T I think, and than maybe I'd consider buying one, because look at the Hyundai Tuscons 1.6T and 7 DCT, it's a great engine and trans combo, gets good fuel mileage and is pretty quick at sea level, but that's my opinion of course. I actually really like the exterior design of the compass, but the engine and transmission is a deal breaker.
I have a 2016 tucson SE AWD. I wish it had about 10% more torque and a touch more ground clearance, but it handles very well and has proven quite worthy for being far less expensive than it's competitiors. I took my Tucson to Moab. No problems.
New Compass is the best compact CUV for those who don't know anything about cars like first time car buyers. It will teach them, that the next time around to do lots of research before buying a car! LOL!
Very Very biased review, be honest Roman, the jeep is garbage, the engine isnt that good and the transmission is complete trash. and no a 9 speed auto does NOT increase fuel mileage either, atleast from my experience it doesnt. the Subaru is a great car, you are just being rude because Subaru will not give you any press cars and honestly after this i hope they never do consider to. the Kia and Hyundai under their skin really are the same car pretty much and while they have came a long way, myself i would pick the subaru out of all these vehicles but get a manual transmission instead of the auto
John Mech fact is subarus rarely fail. Jeep on the other hand. Rubbish. And dealers treat you like shit at warranty time. Look up some independent studies.
Roman, don't listen to all the fan-boy biased trolls. I think you guys do some of the best reviews, especially for altitude out there. Everyone has a bias, and I think you guys do the best staying objective with vehicles. Keep up the good work.
David Daboin I agree, but sometimes you can't be picky, if you want to be able review the newest vehicles. I think they did a fair job stating that they wouldn't have picked those vehicles to compare, without outright spitting in Jeep's face. They had to walk a fine line being thankful for the review, and staying objective.
She wants a used Wrangler YJ. She likes the Square Headlight. Go figure. Plus she said it has a smaller body so she can fit on ATV trails. This girl is serious!
Chris Barr Yes, you can go mudding ... videos here on RUclips doing just that. I have a JK, but this Compass is a better daily driver - can't lie about that.
It is too bad that Jeep didn't make this a very fair comparison. Also, not all of the cars tested where very close in price, and all of them didn't have an AWD setup. Every vehicle in this comparison almlst has a different mission and aren't the most direct competitors out there. With all that to the side, though, the Sportage and the Tucson are, by far, aiming to be more of the premium offerings in the class. While the Jeep Compass, and the Subaru Crosstrek both are more off road spirited. I agree with Roman when it comes to the interior styling of the Crosstrek it just seems almost "too" simple. Even though, some people may prefer that. Both the Kia and the Sportage, have that very simple yet sophisticated design to the interior. While the Jeep seemed to have more buttons, but the interior remained fairly clean in its styling! Keep up the great work, TFL! 😉👊 -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!"
What are you talking about when you said "all of them didn't have an AWD setup"? The Subaru is the only one that has AWD standard while the Hyundai, Kia, and even the Jeep come standard with FWD unless AWD is optioned.
AWDfreak, I meant to say that out of the vehicles tested, not all of them have an AWD setup equipped. All 4 of these Utility Vehicles definitely come with AWD (As an option, or standard). I was just referring to the actually cars tested in this exact comparison! 😉 Thanks for replying! 👊 -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!"
No problem! Thanks for replying! I truly cannot wait until I can review the new Jeep Compass, and really see how it stacks up to my review tests! Thanks again! ;-) -DriveAndBeDriven "The Quest To Record The Best!"
Good luck with that Jeep. The last version Compass was rated by Forbes as one of the vehicle people most regret having ever bought. Jeep, Chrysler Fiat routinely have the worst reliability, resale and owner satisfaction of any car make. This is well documented by numerous publications. If the Crosstrek had another 40HP it would be an ideal vehicle. Hyundai and Kia have really uped their game well.
He always want to pick a Honda or Toyota but they ain’t no better than a Hyundai or a Kia. I personally would take a Hyundai or Kia over a Toyota or Honda.
When he said the Jeep had 25mpg (which was the combined figure) and that it compared to the others (which were all stated in terms of city performance) his credibility went out the window.
I feel like Jeep deliberately left out the Subaru Forester to make the Jeep Compass look better, considering the Subaru Forester is the next-best off-road capable compact crossover. The Jeep Renegade is Jeep's subcompact crossover. The Jeep Compass is Jeep's compact crossover which competes with Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Subaru Forester, etc. Jeep gave them a terrible selection of "competitors" considering they all don't direct compete in the same class as the Compass.
If the compass is Jeep's compact crossover, than what is the cherokee? isn't it too a compact suv/cuv/crossover? why does Jeeps feel the need to have two vehicles that literally occupy the same vehicle segment. Sure, people can say their capabilities are different, but why have them in the first place? With the Renegade, the compass and patriot should have died off, and gone the way of the liberty.
For the sake of comparison, I'm pretty certain the compass is offered with a 6 speed manual as well, which undoubtedly changes the experience and offers something most other crossovers don't.
That's why I like this channel. Calls it the way it is. Way to call Jeep out on cherry picking lower end cars to compete against it's near top of the line car. Also kudo's for saying which was really the better car out of the bunch.
You know Kia and Hyundai both make all wheel drive. So combine these attributes with AWD and they smoke both the Jeep and the Subaru... And cost the consumer less to get into and less maintenance cost over the length of ownership. I would take the Hyundai first the Kia a very very very close second. The Jeep over the Subaru too... like you said the two Asians have it figured out. German Style with Asian Quality, Good Price Points, Great Quality and Ergonomics. Hard to beat attributes. ***Note: The Jeep is actually a Fiat in disguise...***😱😕
Brian Smith I came here to say that sorta puffy / bubbly dash layout on the jeep looks a lot like a fiat... and in my opinion it's quite ugly, doesn't belong on a vehicle that is "supposed" to be off road worthy. it doesn't need to look like a 50's jeep, but they could have made it look less neutral and little tykes like. it looks like what you'd expect when a dash is designed around ideas on a markerboard (oh it needs to be nice and unintimidating for everyone!) vs looking to jeeps long history for ideas. this kind of design really turns me off on some new cars.
I didn't test drive Hyundai, KIA, and Jeep. But I did test drive the Subaru Crosstrek. I have to agree with the host, that it's underpowered crap. It was very noisy, felt cheap, it was slow and sluggish. At 145 horsepowers with virtually no pulling power and CVT transmission - the worst combination you can have. It would be perfect for my grandma to drive around in, because it's so slow and unexciting.
Jill Thompson i have a crosstrek but i would never buy an automatic...Yes its slow..but anyone buying theres cars to go fast is dillusional..they are all piss slow.
Jonathan Lopez Is that the best you can do? Really... I am soooo impressed... Stick to cartoons where you belong chump. Leave car reviews to the grown-ups.
I don't understand all the hate on the Crosstrek, I firmly believe that it if one of the best cars you can buy right now. I live in an area of PA where I drive on roads that are more like goat paths on a daily basis and own a Crosstrek with the CVT. It rides just as nice an handles exactly the same on dirt as on pavement and even in a few inches of snow. It's got more than enough power for a daily driver and CVT gives me better milage than a lot of cars that couldn't make it on my roads anyway. If you really think you need a car with more power then consider this, I was a little disappointed in power when I first got it but you just have to learn to drive it. It's a momentum car, you learn to use the speed and power you already have rather than relying on the car to save you from a bad corner or wrong placement in the hill.
I just came back from Hawaii where my rental for two was a 2017 Compass. What a terrible vehicle. Fit and finish were subpar, engine was anemic and road nose was intrusive. At home I drive a 2013 Subaru Legacy 3.6r and 2016 Outback 3.6r. Though Subaru has gotten better with their interiors it was never their strong suit. When we got to the airport I got into my Legacy it felt like I was driving a Lexus and that's saying something. Not sure with all the great choices out there why anyone would buy a Compass. Being that TFL drives way more cars than I have I can't understand why they consider this an all around good vehicle, and thats my rant.
Obviously an all wheel drive Kia Sportage still can't compare to a trailhawk trim for off roading, but Motor trend magazine said the Kia is one of the top off road vehicles in that catagory. As well as other youtube reviewers. So when he said the kia was his favorite to drive on road and other reviewers are saying its one of the better ones off road in AWD trim, it makes a strong arguement for the Kia
I think a lot of it is he-man, buy 'murican bullshit. Most of the people bashing Subie have probably never driven one. You know which guys: they're the 5 foot 2 inch guys driving around tail-gating in lifted Rams. I researched for over a year before I bought my Crosstrek. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Fantastic in snow, just about unstoppable.
thorandmoljnir my first car was a leased 13 crosstrek, then when my lease was up i gotta 15 crosstrek. ain't nothing wrong with it at all! i love my car
That was super redundant of Jeep to have both the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage there. I agree with Roman, I would have picked different vehicles and they were also not comparably equipped to the Jeep. Not really a fair comparison. I guess when you're FCA and you make obviously subpar vehicles compared to the competition these are the tactics you have to resort to.
Actually the trail rated AWD Trailhawk model tested hear doesn't drive as well on street as the cheaper front driven Compass with it's street tires and lower suspension. Roman thinks is the Trailhawk version is a very good compromise . Do you really think Roman (The Fast Lane Car team) would allow Jeep to choose the specific of the concurrent models which will became part of the comparison? I don't understand how someone can became that biased and paranoid about a car brand? Really curious to find out about it! Did angry unfair perfidious Jeep hurt you feeling in some way? For me it's ridiculous how little it needs for certain people type, to became negative/ to feel hate for something or someone
What do you mean a boxer doesnt have a lot of torque? They generally have more torque than a standard inline. I think you can blame the CVT for that not the boxer.
People need to stop comparing other jeeps to the wrangler. They are apples and oranges. More than half of customer complaints come from first time wrangler buyers that find that the wrangler is not a good on road vehicle. They can find this by test driving it and not being over taken by the looks. The interior leaks after you remove the roof, it handles poorly, if you cannot off- road drive, you may break something, etc. All things you learn from reading online. Other jeeps are not as capable and are more reliable. The wrangler is almost like it is made from another manufacturer than the others. A lot of the other complaints come from the reliable and cheap, but sluggish and uninteresting patriot/compass twins of old. These are also due to the lack of a test drive as 5 minutes and you would know that. Also the nine speed automatic, Jeep was one of the first to use and they had to work out software issues, which they fixed for no cost of the customer. There were no mechanical defects, only software issues. They should have worked them out first, but they were trying to be ahead of the game and they bit the bullet for it.
lol he's definitely still salty about the Subaru thing. Funny Nathan said in the outback review that he was going to buy one for his spouse. And Andre did a personal review on his outback too.
even though you guys can't obviously comment on reliability, the factory warranty can fill in for that, for example I think Kia offers 100k mile/10 years and jeep offers 36k miles/3 years warranties
Shame on Jeep for not offering a 4wd Kia and Hyundai. I would like to see an off road comparison of these 4 all in a limited edition trim package for an apples to apples test!
I rented one last year in Las Vegas for a Road trip to Death Valley , I drove about 1100 miles in 4 days , most of it on dirt rods at death valley , on the drive back to Vegas the pice of crap Jeep had vibrations .., all over !!!
Jeep thinks they could fool people with this shitty comparison? Do they think people are dumb? I don't like Fiat-Chrysler, actually. I've just never liked Chrysler at any stage.
ToyotaCelicaDude1 They should think people are dumb because many many are, why do you think they are still in business? there's a new sucker born every minute
A very noteworthy point that you missed about the Jeep is there are THREE transmission options. There is a 6-speed manual available in North America as well. That alone would narrow my choices down to the Jeep or Subaru as I must have three pedals. After previous Hyundai experiences I would never invest in another Hyundai, and likewise Kia.
nice Jeep! it looks like it will be yet another home run for Jeep. by far the most off road capable, best handling, most quite and refined ride, by far the best interior and handsome looks, Grand Cherokee's little brother.
hey Roman, I don't know what you mean by the engine being pockey. Now, Andre uses an Outback as a daily driver. How come you don't review that? Also, why are you expecting loaners? I think you should quit complaining and rent a Subaru yourself. It's kind of a big omission for your channel given that Subarus are very popular and off road and snow worthy.
My wife has a Tuscon, sport 1.6,she did have Rouge(14'),I do not recommend, the nissan, she gets 25 to 30 mpg,she drives it like she stole it,the dual clutch trans needs some more programing to be perfect, but still a solid vehicle,I also afraid of the cost of CVT repair, long term jeep ownership for me would only be with a long term warranty.
JP 560 interior trim falling off and she had that huge sunroof that would never stop creaking even after 2 dealer visits and a discovery of rusty crossmember under the engine when changing oil ,I had a 98 Pathfinder that was unibody perfection for 11 years,I don't think they're headed in the right direction.
I own a Subaru Outback and a Jeep Wrangler. I travel at least three weeks a month so I rent lots of cars. I've rented the Sportage and a Santa Fe. None of these cars, including the Jeep Compass, could keep up with a Wrangler off road.
I know you said it right at the beginning but I totally agree that jeep should have provided you at least with their top of the line Limited which is all wheel drive not the Rubicon to compare with these vehicles
If the Subaru XV had a 200hp/ 200 ft-lb torque @ sub 2000 rpm, I'd walk in to the dealership today to buy one! I can overlook the CVT, the spartan interior, outdated infotainment in exchange for reasonable power in a compact package with great ride height and AWD.
Test drive the Forester XT. I had a Crosstrek for 30 months and now have a Limited Forester XT with EyeSight. 100 more HP makes a World of difference and the mpg penalty is pretty insignificant. It also has a much nicer interior than the XV.
You want good on and off-road ability, with fuel economy, affordability, and excellent resale/reliability? Then pick the Crosstrek with manual transmission...
As a Subaru owner, I'm not the least bit upset over your comments. I would point out however that the Subaru will still be running long after 200k miles. Can you say the same for the Fiat 500X you call a Jeep? I have commented many times on TFL videos that I wish you would revisit the cars you review after 100k miles and tell us what you think about the longevity of these vehicles.
Amen brother. Not sure that these new Jeeps using the Tigershark will go that long but we shall see. I have had zero issues with my 2015 Cherokee so far.
Engineering explained has the Subaru so it must be the best lol but the Subaru comes with a manual transmission which would completely change the dynamics of the car compared to the CVT
The Jeep competition for the Subaru XV Crosstrek, the Jeep Renegade, is the only other subcompact crossover that offers AWD with a manual transmission, surprisingly enough. Only other AWD crossovers left available with a manual transmission will be the Jeep Compass and Subaru Forester. Otherwise, it's almost universal that choosing the AWD option on a crossover means giving up the clutch pedal.
I have a 5-speed manual Subaru XV Crosstrek, and although the AWD system in some situations reacts better, the Lineartronic CVT is better for the low-speed and uphill off-road stuff, as there is no risk of burning up the clutch. I personally believe the Subaru manual transmission's AWD system works better for spirited pavement use (such as mountain passes and canyon roads) but can shine when conditions get very slippery.
With this fitting in-between the Renegade and Cherokee, I think the non-turbo Subaru Forester would have been a better comparison. (I know you tested what you had.) I have a Crosstrek, and down here in Ohio it has decent power delivery. 20 or 30 hp would be nice, though! The CVT in the Crosstrek actually has better reviews off-road than the manual option. ;)
I would like to see you do your own picks for the comparison. Choose what you feel is a fair comparison within this class of vehicle. I would watch that, rather than what jeep wants you to compare to highlight their product.
Hyundai Tucson Failed with not lending you the 4x4. I had that crossover in mind. I look forward to see more reviews and when I get my next car I will put you down.
For all u subie fan boys, i hope subaru treated u well when the head gaskets go on those boxer engines and the dealer tell you they cant see any leaks.
How does the size of the new Compass compare to the Renegade and the Cherokee? Is it that much smaller than the Cherokee, and what other competitors cars better compete with the new Compass?
The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover. The Compass competes with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, and other compact crossovers. The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover. The Renegade competes with the Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax, Subaru XV Crosstrek, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke, and other subcompact crossovers. The Cherokee is a mid-size crossover. This is where things get even more blurry as there are mid-size crossovers that are on the large side, and some on the smaller side as well as the differentiating factor of 2-row or 3-rows. I would believe the Cherokee competes with 2-row mid-size crossovers such as the the Subaru Outback.
7:08 Not true, its also available in 6-speed manual. Latitude 4x4 6-speed is the best value, hands down and 300lbs lighter than the trailhawk that shifts lazily.
Subaru may have cheap looking interiors but from what I have experienced, more expensive interiors with alot of soft touch surfaces wear easily and do not last. Subaru owners are usually outdoors and need an interior that can take the abuse of all the camping, hiking, biking, rock climbing gear that is constant being taken in and out of the vehicle.
Hey TFLC. Why you even comparing those base model vehicles against the top of the line Jeep, I know jeep provided the vehicle but shouldn't made the comparison.
brucehawk09 bro, I owned Jeep Compass MK-49 for 9 yrs. 3 or 3 yrs it stood at the garage as I wasn’t in Ukraine. It was good all the time. Now I sold it ((((
In reference to the interiors. what's the difference between 'simple and elegant' and 'old and boring'? Also, I'll bet that Crosstrek would easily match the Jeep off-road.
Roman was just talking about how interiors were complicated and here he is complaining. No reason simplicity is going away. People like him are ruining simple functions. He should stick trucks.
Nice of Jeep to compare two base model FWD cars (and the Crosstrek) to their top-of-the-line, off-road oriented Compass Trailhawk.
I would pick the Subaru over all of them
Same here, and I am already on my second Subaru. At some point, might go with either Impreza again or Crosstrax.
Michael Reichert y subaru
Michael Reichert I've had to pull my Outback out of the mud with my Wrangler several times.
Michael Reichert ew no it’s just an overpriced car
That's too many SUVs. Ugh this market.
Assuming that npaladin2000 is correct, yeah... That's a lot of crossover size categories. Though unlike most, I drive my crossover off-road :)
That's what I'm talking about.
unfair comparison, Jeep chose their top of the line model vs the base model or popular models. Jeep should have used KIA's SX and Hyundai the limited turbo version.
Troy Strain this is also a company that aided in winning WW2.
2. World War 2. That was more than 70 years ago, lot's changed.
Roman picked the Trailhawk to compare to the other cars. This was the car he had to drive for the day.
Troy Strain no, but as bad of a past they've had they also did some good.
AirLancer to be fair a lots changed since 1979 too.
Thanks for the comment. We'll keep it in mind for the next Mashup.
The Fast Lane Car no problem, love the videos, just want to make sure the consistency is there so no theres no confusion
Roman is definitely little salty about Subaru not giving press cars anymore. Most of Audi A line up have a CVT.
No, we never crashed an outback. Here's the reason why: ruclips.net/video/g8VH438prWQ/видео.html
Josh Lum no, they didn't crash it. they just put it to the test the way Subaru portrays their outbacks in every commercial. Come to find out outback isn't as off road worthy as subaru want you to believe.
Vanneker which Audi model has a CVT? all models I'm able to see on the homepage are available with either a manual or a double clutch transmission
heiko brons The older ones.
D.J. Wheaton just the older a4 convertible had a FWD with CVT
Kia and Hyundai both are amazing, love their designs!
I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe with over 200,000 miles and the thing runs amazing and it's still in great condition. Hyundai is a great brand
Allen D. Uh... Yes. Stop hating. It's not the same Hyundai/kia from 20 years ago. You sound so ignorant.
Allen D. I bet you have never owned a Hyundai. You are just bias and butt hurt because you dislike Korean cars. They are actually pretty reliable. This isn't the 1980s anymore
azera55555 they are alright but they’re just a family oriented cars to me but yah I can agree!
vinn_scor I’m surprised cause back then they were crap and when it was new they used to just brake down
1. I didn't imagined Jeep would go this low to get an advantage for a comparison
2. I didn't imagined TFL would do this
Roman, if you remember, it wasn't until the mid 1990's that all European cars had black dashboards on top because black doesn't reflect sunlight against the windshield as much as light colors do.
The Subaru is not a bad car at all. I don't know why Roman bashed on it.
Not enough power and a cvt trans.
And crappy interior
Unfortunately this video comparison just feels more biased than any other videos they have done. I get that it was a Jeep sponsored video but let's keep it unfavored TFL
Alex Messersmith It's not TFL's fault that Jeep chose to rig things to be in their favor.
The Subaru, Hyundai and Kia will be far more reliable. The 2.4 engine in Chrysler products suck, and the 9 speed has known reliability issues.
Subaru CVT needs relacing after every 50-60,000 miles
13v950 I've watched more Subarus pull Jeeps out of snow banks than Jeeps pulling Subarus out.
Wait until it time to repair the Subaru....That 4 wheel drive system will kill you when you get the bill for repairs.
John Mech fact is subarus rarely fail. Jeep on the other hand. Rubbish. And dealers treat you like shit at warranty time. Look up some independent studies.
Rather ride my bike than buy a jeep
You were ok till the last part.
Roman, don't listen to all the fan-boy biased trolls. I think you guys do some of the best reviews, especially for altitude out there. Everyone has a bias, and I think you guys do the best staying objective with vehicles. Keep up the good work.
thomas dillard they do make down to earth reviews, they shouldn't made this one, they know better than any of us that it was an unfair competition.
So my daughter (16yrs) leaned over and just said "That's not a Jeep, you can't go muddin' in that!" lol
Chris Barr Sounds like she was raised right!
Chris Barr even the young un's know!
Chris Barr she is a very smart girl
She wants a used Wrangler YJ. She likes the Square Headlight. Go figure. Plus she said it has a smaller body so she can fit on ATV trails. This girl is serious!
Chris Barr Yes, you can go mudding ... videos here on RUclips doing just that. I have a JK, but this Compass is a better daily driver - can't lie about that.
The Crosstrek will go anywhere off road the Jeep Compass will. Guaranteed!!
Justin VanMeter The Crosstrek will tow the Compass back to the shop
guy proulx Lol agreed!
Nah, not enough power. 140 hp? My lawnmower has more power! LOL
Horsepower aside dildo. The Crosstrek is going anywhere off road a fuckin Jeep Compass is.
pdgable I know what you we're replying to. Sorry if I upset you cupcake, was just making a point. Loosen up a little buttercup 😊

"The Quest To Record The Best!"

"The Quest To Record The Best!"
Oh, now I get where you're coming from. Thanks for the clarification.
No problem! Thanks for replying! I truly cannot wait until I can review the new Jeep Compass, and really see how it stacks up to my review tests! Thanks again! ;-)

"The Quest To Record The Best!"
NMot only that but the CrossTrek is a small SUV , a more fair comparison they should have used a Forester
i'd rather walk before I would buy that jeep
Good luck with that Jeep. The last version Compass was rated by Forbes as one of the vehicle people most regret having ever bought. Jeep, Chrysler Fiat routinely have the worst reliability, resale and owner satisfaction of any car make. This is well documented by numerous publications. If the Crosstrek had another 40HP it would be an ideal vehicle. Hyundai and Kia have really uped their game well.
MG HG I liked my 08 Patriot a lot it was reliable. It's the same as the Compass.
Subaru wins. the jeep is nothing but garbage inside and out.
the subaru is definitely uglier though.
shmiggz its not ugly, its boring.
Chris Smith why can't it be both??
Tell it like it is Roman, don't worry if the FHI folks never send you their vehicles. You're doing great with these reviews.
Hyundai tucson all the way, and it wasnt even then ultimate limited awd version compared
I own A Hyundai 2016 Tucson Limited 1.6T and a 2017 Subaru Cross Trek and the Subaru will outperform the Garbage Tucson in any off road condition
One minor correction, Roman: a German car company DID put a CVT in their cars. Your beloved Audi put one in the fwd versions of the A4's.
Why crosstrek? Forester is competitor to compass! Forester XT model smokes all of them both on road and off road.
These are sub-compact crossovers like the Tuscon, Sportage, Honda HRV, Mazda CX3. Forester is too big for this class.
I agree 100%
I feel like Jeep deliberately left out the Subaru Forester to make the Jeep Compass look better, considering the Subaru Forester is the next-best off-road capable compact crossover.
The Jeep Renegade is Jeep's subcompact crossover. The Jeep Compass is Jeep's compact crossover which competes with Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Subaru Forester, etc. Jeep gave them a terrible selection of "competitors" considering they all don't direct compete in the same class as the Compass.
Ikr
If the compass is Jeep's compact crossover, than what is the cherokee? isn't it too a compact suv/cuv/crossover? why does Jeeps feel the need to have two vehicles that literally occupy the same vehicle segment. Sure, people can say their capabilities are different, but why have them in the first place? With the Renegade, the compass and patriot should have died off, and gone the way of the liberty.
That Hyundai Tucson looks amazing!
He said "If I had a family the Tucson would be the best"
odd selections to compare, I'd have chosen Rav4, CR-v, and Forester. Compass isn't entry-level, that's the Renegade.
It's pretty clear from his lack of enthusiasm that he thinks the Jeep sucks but feels he must not trash talk it too much so not to upset FCA.
For the sake of comparison, I'm pretty certain the compass is offered with a 6 speed manual as well, which undoubtedly changes the experience and offers something most other crossovers don't.
Jeep basically makes 3 versions of the same car.
That's why I like this channel. Calls it the way it is. Way to call Jeep out on cherry picking lower end cars to compete against it's near top of the line car. Also kudo's for saying which was really the better car out of the bunch.
Love how jeep are handicapping the competition for the sake of the reviews all three would be better if they were the high spec variants
Subarus, or SUVs in general?
Jonathan Lopez Is that the best you can do? Really... I am soooo impressed... Stick to cartoons where you belong chump. Leave car reviews to the grown-ups.
"It's a little too black of you know what I'm talking about" XD Roman never fails to make me laugh. 😂. I'd probably choose the Kia or the Hyundai.
So when he said the kia was his favorite to drive on road and other reviewers are saying its one of the better ones off road in AWD trim, it makes a strong arguement for the Kia
lmaoo the crosstrek bashing🙄🙄 i love my little subaru😂😂😂
I think a lot of it is he-man, buy 'murican bullshit. Most of the people bashing Subie have probably never driven one. You know which guys: they're the 5 foot 2 inch guys driving around tail-gating in lifted Rams. I researched for over a year before I bought my Crosstrek. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Fantastic in snow, just about unstoppable.
thorandmoljnir my first car was a leased 13 crosstrek, then when my lease was up i gotta 15 crosstrek. ain't nothing wrong with it at all! i love my car
can't beat that ground clearance.
Really? How independent can you be if you don't pick the models to review? Inappropriate choices of models and levels...
Drove both. The KIA is completely different.A blast to drive.Too bad the engine is too loud
I go reliability so I'll take the Subaru!
I too would of picked a different set of competitors. Shocked to hear you talk about the Kia ..... gotta walk in the dealer to check em out.
As you mentioned in the video that people might find German cars with CVT; I had a 2014 C class and I think it had CVT.
They should have worked them out first, but they were trying to be ahead of the game and they bit the bullet for it.
the Jeep's "a little too black"? 🤔
just joshing with'ya, Roman. 😉
"If you know what I mean ;-)"
lol he's definitely still salty about the Subaru thing.
I really like all 4 of them, but I cannot ever own the Crosstrek until they offer a different transmission.
You need to get your hands on the 2018. We want the review of that one. It's suppose to be better.
Shame on Jeep for not offering a 4wd Kia and Hyundai. I would like to see an off road comparison of these 4 all in a limited edition trim package for an apples to apples test!
I'd never buy a jeep until their reliability levels go up
Brad Motors3 I think you have a better chance of finding a unicorn than for FIat-Chrysler to make a reliable vehicle.
Mourinho M true
I rented one last year in Las Vegas for a Road trip to Death Valley , I drove about 1100 miles in 4 days , most of it on dirt rods at death valley , on the drive back to Vegas the pice of crap Jeep had vibrations .., all over !!!
Jeep thinks they could fool people with this shitty comparison? Do they think people are dumb? I don't like Fiat-Chrysler, actually. I've just never liked Chrysler at any stage.
I guess you can use you as an unbiased reviewer.
Why have the Hyundai and Kia they are basically the same car. They Mazda CX5 would have been a better addition.
nice Jeep! it looks like it will be yet another home run for Jeep. by far the most off road capable, best handling, most quite and refined ride, by far the best interior and handsome looks, Grand Cherokee's little brother.
hey Roman, I don't know what you mean by the engine being pockey. Now, Andre uses an Outback as a daily driver. How come you don't review that? Also, why are you expecting loaners? I think you should quit complaining and rent a Subaru yourself. It's kind of a big omission for your channel given that Subarus are very popular and off road and snow worthy.
WoW! That Jeep interior is hideous!! Would have been cool to have tested the Honda and a VW but I understand you review what they give you.
You should have gotten a Tucson with the AWD. They are way more impressive than no AWD. Especially with a good launch.
Avoid the 2017 Compass, look for the 2017 All New Compass.
Dave Krukraft Why did you not like the Rogue?
Might as well compare a corvette to a honda civic si next
LoneWanderer360 I know many owners of jeeps with over 200,000 miles on them.
AWDfreak sucks to admit but you're right no other awd crossover has a manual transmission which would be more beneficial off road
I have a 2017 CVT Crosstrek and I do agree with you , excelent performace off road
What about the Subaru Forester (XT...?!) against Jeep Compass Trailhawk?
Hyundai Tucson Failed with not lending you the 4x4. I had that crossover in mind. I look forward to see more reviews and when I get my next car I will put you down.
Its also very popular because it lasts compared to jeep products
Should of drove the 5 speed subaru crosstrek.
Get over your CVT hate Roman. The new for 17 Crosstrek will put Subaru in the lead again CVT and 152 hp
And the Jeep has 180 hp.
Huh, I always thought the Cherokee was a compact crossover. I guess the Cherokee competes with the Ford Edge and other similar cars then.
I have to agree with him the sport age take the trophy for me.
7:08 Not true, its also available in 6-speed manual. Latitude 4x4 6-speed is the best value, hands down and 300lbs lighter than the trailhawk that shifts lazily.
so you avoided posting the price of the jeep? and you danced around the terrible reliability that jeep is know for? That was a biased review.
Could you make an off road comparison with the same vehicles. I bet Subaru would kick some ass!!!
I'm still mad that he didn't give a serious answer about the Crosstrek. It's why I came to this video. Golden retrievers love it? Not cool Roman.
LMAO Jeep would be good for about 30,000 miles and then its toast
brucehawk09 bro, I owned Jeep Compass MK-49 for 9 yrs. 3 or 3 yrs it stood at the garage as I wasn’t in Ukraine. It was good all the time. Now I sold it ((((
In reference to the interiors. what's the difference between 'simple and elegant' and 'old and boring'?
Also, I'll bet that Crosstrek would easily match the Jeep off-road.
my car is hyundai tucson xpossible white Super car!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeep is the last car I would ever consider buying... save for the Wrangler of course.
How does the Compass compare to the Rav4 or CRV? Pricing is very similar.
Roman was just talking about how interiors were complicated and here he is complaining. No reason simplicity is going away. People like him are ruining simple functions. He should stick trucks.
My mind was made before watching this video Tucson 4x4 2.0 liter
Nice like the 6 SP manual Transmission in Jeep Compass, it to bad y’all can not compare Subaru cross track manual transmission with the Jeep Compass.
