I really appreciate you mentioning Genshin as part of the Honkai Universe. I really dislike when people leave out Genshin just because it doesn't have Honkai name on it. Devs said many times that they want to build a universe which shares similar story elements and have parallels between each other. I think it's wonderful that you can enjoy each game independently but still can react like that Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when you notice the references and parallels. 😂😂
the only people who leave Genshin out are the ones who haven't played Honkai and did the story. It was pretty mindblowing to see Dvalin on screen the first time.

Hoyoverse lore is so interesting, but also kinda demanding for a player to follow along on their own. It’s great that you are helping to bring all the pieces from the different games together into an overall narrative.
I’m happy my theory that each leaf isn’t one planet, but an entire star system. The Astral Express is indeed special, because it seems to allow one to travel between these Star systems. Apparently, the power of the Trailblaze also allows these worlds to be traversed even by those who aren’t on the Express. Belobog got RECONNECTED after all.

You made me appreciate HI3 a lot more over the past few months (I finished the entire main story on youtube, fishing all the additional content to increase the experience - especially for ER - , and your videos were the jewels of the sea). Not only you explained the complicated stuff, but also pointed out all the crazy references, parallels, symbology and also the devs meaning and intention behind narrative choices. Thanks a ton once again! (I just didn't started to play HI3 because I'm behiind and already play 4 gatcha games haha, but HI3 main story is at the top alongside the best FGO chapters imo)
As a Chinese player and a passionate fan of the Honkai series, I must say this video is really great! Because many early events about miHoYo are hard to find on the Chinese Internet(tips: In Chinese Mainland, miHoYo has not changed its name to HoYoverse: ) In addition, there are also errors in word meaning caused by translation, In such difficult circumstances, I never knew that there were RUclipsr outside of China who knew so much about Honkai's worldview! In fact, I really want to support you, but I can only give you like because Chinese Mainland is not convenient to reward you :D
My theory is that Genshin and Star Rail are part of the same universe (with Teyvat being a planet like any other), while Honkai Impact is a separate universe but part of the bigger multiverse. This would explain why so far there are no variants of Honkai Impact characters (like Seele, Himeko, Bronya, etc) in Star Rail that also appear in Genshin (unless Diluc counts but he's different enough to not be a variant. And it's also possible that Aether and Lumine have some sort of connection with Akivili, as hinted by the fact Aether's clothes are the same color as the Astral Express, the Traveler making use of the word "planet" to refer to other "worlds", the twins' ability to travel between worlds, and also the fact that in the trailer that introduced the Aeons there's a scene where the Express is flying alongside several "shooting stars" that look like Aether and Lumine when they arrived at Teyvat in that one trailer, as well as the 5 star wish animation.
I think HSR and HI3 are in the same universe. As Terminus is an aeon of the path Finality.. I am guessing Terminus havnt been seen in a while.. Bc It has been occupied with Earth or rather the milky way/solar system. And Earth isint known in the HSR universe bc it is isolated by Finality or rather Terminus. They share the name Honkai. And they share universal consepts in exact names like the Imaginary tree, sea of quanta and the universe being filled with imaginary energy.. Or smthin.. Aka Honkai. Also.. They share the same elemental quality. Fire, ice, wind, lightning, physical, imaginary and quantum. Which.. Makes me wonder.. What if Aeither's element isint light... But rather imaginary.. And Lumine is.. Not dark but rathee Quantum... Or vice versa... But yeah.. HSR and HI3 share too much to not be connected.. Im guessing its HI3 but in a cosmic scale... Where what they know in HI3 is known in a wider scale.. And in an even further extent..
It's crazy that in the honkai series, genshin may be the ultimate game. If genshin is a world inside the sea of quanta, it would make sense for the skies to be fake, for the vision of the future be the quantum "abyss" energy to be leaking from the skies, and for the abyss to be infinity AKA space+chaos. Also means that by scaping sea of quanta, one can find themselves at the Honkai Impact universe, which would make Fischl and Keqing's appearance at Honkai Impact have a lot of sense actually. Gets even crazier when you notice that some specific characters from genshin do have the knowledge even if the Irminsul is locking them in a repetitive cycle of failures.
If you finish the book of esoteric revaluations the author said that after the cataclysm the sky would look like it filled with purple abyss energy and there's a huge crack in the sky almost apocalyptic so there's someone who didn't let that happen or the whole teyvat is actually filled with Abyss energy the world is just kept in some kind of dome using fake skies by someone possibly the sustainer
_Genshin_ *is* a Honkai game. Its working title was _Honkai 4_ . On the Chinese players' suggestion, they changed it to _Genshin_ , the tern for Vision holders (Allogenes in English), and the marketing dedpartment added 'impact' to connect it to _HI3_ , but only for the global market. In total, there are four _Honkai_ games currently: - GunGirlZ (Houkai Gakuen 2) - Honkai Impact 3rd - Genshin (Houkai 4) - Honkai: Star Rail While _Tears of Themis_ is also somehow part of the Honkaiverse on the Imaginary Tree, _Zenless Zone Zero_ has ben stated to be separate. There's also a fan-made patch to allow for play with English translations for _GGZ_ . They're far from great, but they're... functional, I guess, is the best way to put it. It's a shame they closed the Global server, but it is still playable, at least.

10:29 - the samsara in genshin is not on a small scale though, weve not seen it happen, but its pretty much confirmed that teyvat is in a loop/samsara and if you have done the Fontaine quests and read rene's notes, it is revealed that this is the final loop. no new civilisation will be born if teyvat is destroyed now

I don't think it's one person. Each game has its own team. Most likely they follow a similar "template" to stay somehow consistent throughout the games.
Similar to a company's structure, I believe the director will only be in charge of details that are related to the multiverse idea. They will be responsible for quests that heavily refer to the cosmology concept of Honkaiverse, and make sure that some multiverse details are incorporated into other quests/lores, so that there is a sense of consistency. However, there are also other teams who work with that director. Aside from making sure details concerns multiverse are included in the stories, they pretty much have their freedom to write any kind of story about nations and characters in the game.

Recent genshin lore drops have implied that the existence of samsara extends beyond just the Sumeru archon quest, and that the whole of Teyvat has been through multiple cycles already. So, another supporting evidence for the hoyoverse!

Amazing video, thank you One thing I have to mention though that wasn't mentioned in this video and might cause people to wrongfully assume. The samsara in Houkai Gakuen 2 works differently, it's not the Honkai that resets civilization there but the Stigmata Terminal Alaya, which was created by Dr.MEI in Era Zero (1st Era) Also there are actually still ways to read GGZ in English. Hoyostans being one of them for early Retrospective (Project Gekkou) but there is also a website that contains all stories and event stories, with it being translated until Reborn Chapter 12 (AKA until when Global Existed before being shutdown), but its technically using game data so won't mention name here, you can try to look it up if anyone's interested

It's nice to see so many people interested in the game. I'm thinking of compiling a few ways for Global players to experience the story and present them in a video in the future. Who knows? You need to wait next event like a month. There's nothing else you can do when you finish the stories and events, it's not like in Honkai impact.
Random theory I have that is not exactly related to this video but I was reminded of it 😅: HOMUs are definitely interdimensional beings, seeing as they are popular franchises in MANY HoYoverse worlds (even Tears of Themis!), but especially Houkai Gakuen and Honkai Impact! In the chapter focusing on Durandal how she is actually Kiana, you see these beings that resemble HOMUs that help her in the Imaginary Space. This also happens way earlier in the game with Bronya, when she was in a coma and Fu Hua used Fenghuang Down to get her out of it .
Isn't it just a easter egg though, because the Homu Bronya saw in her coma was Fu Hua choosing Bronya's favorite character to lead her or smth, and the durandal part was because the Kaslanas before her forgot their own identity and became Homus

God it make me feels so damn old remembering that I played "Fly Me To the Moon" and Honkai Gakuen Day 1 of release. The games were so basic that I genuinely never would have expected the the premise and the company to grow into a massive powerhouse that it is today.

It's not like I forgot about ToT, but we never got any official confirmation from HoYo that the game is part of the Honkai Universe. (unlike the others) While there are plenty of references to other games in ToT, for this video series, I wanted to work only with the games that HoYoverse officially confirmed as part of their shared Universe.

10:25 it's not just sumeru archon quest, but in fact recently, new fountaine lore drop revealed that the entirety of tevyat is stuck in a huge loop were civilizations are destroyed over and over again (likely by assholes aka celestia and phanes) and this current cycle which is the cycle in which traveler is journeying, is the final and last cycle, after this there will essentially be no tevyat, as the primmoridal waters of tevyat will remerge and destroy it.
This was a really nice break down! I knew about Fly me to the Moon but I didn't know about the game before that. Its really cool that some of these ideas never really left and were reused, and I can't wait too see what they reuse in Genshin and even in Starrail. Personally for Genshin I like the project stigma theory, which is that the world of Teyvat is the result of project stigma succeeding, which could be why reality seems kind of weird and how Kevin could still be involved in the story but you don't need to have any knowledge of HI3. (HI3 Kevin and Genshin Kevin are two different versions)

that was... very educational. i knew some concepts, kinda, i tried to play hi3 before, but i really kinda skipped some story bits bc i got overwhelmed... anyway, the retroactiveness of time took my attention in turn to some weird genshin things with time, it would explain the weird sakura planting and especially that one line in one of the books... i think it was enkanomiya book maybe, i just remember it said "only the future can save the past not the other way around" the retroactiveness of time as a concept in hoyo games definitely does fit into this line tbh

You know, never knew the Travelers had drip marketing... and considering Kevin Kaslana is the one signing theirs off and considering what both Aether and Lumine's say... that's honestly a lot of better information and evidence for trying to connect them to Project Ark than a lot of what in my opinion: Ashiikai's Projecty Teyvat theory had in its final episode where it got a lot of things about Project Ark seemingly wrong. Then also considering Kate Kaslana is still in the game files still and she was leaked with a whole plethora of characters that did get in the game, despite some weapon changes for a few like YaoYao, and Mimi getting turned into Kokomi and Shenli being removed from the game and then reintroduced with a tweaked design as Shenhe... I wouldn't be surprised considering she's different enough looking from the Travelers if they repurpose her as a returning Knight of Favonious from Varka's expedition in a future patch with a tweaked design or as the missing 10th Fatui Harbinger we don't know about considering Pierro doesn't count and Capitano has to be Ranked 1st of the Harbingers or Childe's remarks on him make no sense whatsoever. Reminds me that early design of March was leaked too with Star Rail when the whole leaked characters sheet existed before Mihoyo finally took it down, had a proper name too, wouldn't be surprised if like Dan Heng, March 7th gets that design and name with a five star variant in the future. That also said... now kinda wishing we had documentation detailing info about Genshin's alpha DYKG style, since it doesn't seem to be well preserved.

Then again, I probably shouldn't be playing any more gacha games. Also, the early HI3rd mangas (Escape from Nagazora, etc.) were made before the actual game? That explains why they feel so different... and horny.
Ggz has an english patch that restore the old global translation on the last version There is also Operation Gekkou, the VN adaptation of the story in full retranslated english

They won't going to end Captainverse events There's hints of new battlesuits of SP Himeko, SP Kallen, grown-up Kongming Theresa and more to be developed further from here on out, even Rita's first imaginary battlesuit too can be perfectly fits from Rosemary Rita's evolution too on top of Kongming Theresa can visit her original bubble universe to meet Emberyan Rita again Not to mention that Kiana turns out to be going all fine and happy in her isolated process of Cocoon of Finality in Part 1.5 indicates that only Luna Kindred arc is ending and not the entire Captainverse stories, as Kiana meet Lambda Ai Chan and Bronie, which both being literal Captain's pals in their own ways, not to mention the scenarios of Captain can split his own consciousness as he's the observer that often got temporary amnesiac from overusing his abilities, the hints of the characters that can potentially releases with new battlesuits of their own, which Ferryman betrayed could be in the future arcs (not to mention of Delta's interactions with Vodka twins too, the fact that Red Queen Rita is separated from Rosemary Rita despite she's literally from the same universe from Captain back in Winter Rhapsody event back in 2018 that was so old it's predates Sanguine Nights event in March 2019, Captain shenanigans with Lambda Ai Chan if he suddenly got temporal amnesiac and lost in the game's metadata again with the Ai Chans, Captain could visit his original universe from Summer Memories event back in well, Summer in 2018 when everything was happy, Captain dates with the Valkyries especially Himeko and every player doesn't know about "Last Lesson", Nightglow, etc, yeah it hits even harder for veteran players starting from 2017-2018) Oh also, Kiana's Birthday CGs in 2019 and 2020 have Captain appears to her twice, with 2019 when he consoles her on a Train, which is a motif which Captain was last seen on a Train in Summer Event in 2021 until he awoke in Dream Space to try remember of trying finding Luna again, while Kiana was physically last seen in Da Capo ending when she departed on her mental train to embrace Cocoon of Finality before she too appeared again not long after in part 1.5 of main story), all while the 2020 when he dates with her (probably due to Mei got her edgy Herrscher of Thunder phase as that what currently going on in the main story during 2020), indicating Kiana and Captain might be closer than most people expect Which reminds me of there's still no explanation of Captain and Rita's natures of "belonging to entities of Higher Order" by the devs, word-by-word and hinted through a forgotten facebook interactive chat by the official page where Captain and Rita is said to be "Spiritually connected" during 2018 Winter Rhapsody event running But then again Captain is so self aware to the point of not just 4th wall breaks from time to time, but he also aware of the main story events despite he's on different worlds and dimensions, see his surprise of seeing Herrscher of Sentience in 2021 Summer Event with Seele and prior when he recalls about Kiana, Kevin, Otto and Himeko when he time travels through timelines to save Kongming Theresa and Emberyan Rita in Honkai Kingdoms Zero/Lonely Stargazer event, also Captain confirmed to met Azathoth, the strongest entity in the biggest pantheon of GGZ back in 2020 CNY Reunion Dinner when he got food-poisoned by Kallen, that's also when Bianka met Captain for the first time by closing his eye to "keep guiding us Valkyries" before she disappears, the event happened like around 1-2 weeks after Rita's Birthday CG in 2020, sorry for the rambling, Captainverse events rabbit holes is the most Esoteric aspects of any Mihoyo games' lores

Hoyoverse lore is so interesting, but also kinda demanding for a player to follow along on their own. It’s great that you are helping to bring all the pieces from the different games together into an overall narrative.
I’m happy my theory that each leaf isn’t one planet, but an entire star system. The Astral Express is indeed special, because it seems to allow one to travel between these Star systems. Apparently, the power of the Trailblaze also allows these worlds to be traversed even by those who aren’t on the Express. Belobog got RECONNECTED after all.

As a Chinese player and a passionate fan of the Honkai series, I must say this video is really great! My theory is that Genshin and Star Rail are part of the same universe (with Teyvat being a planet like any other), while Honkai Impact is a separate universe but part of the bigger multiverse. This would explain why so far there are no variants of Honkai Impact characters (like Seele, Himeko, Bronya, etc) in Star Rail that also appear in Genshin (unless Diluc counts but he's different enough to not be a variant. And it's also possible that Aether and Lumine have some sort of connection with Akivili, as hinted by the fact Aether's clothes are the same color as the Astral Express, the Traveler making use of the word "planet" to refer to other "worlds", the twins' ability to travel between worlds, and also the fact that in the trailer that introduced the Aeons there's a scene where the Express is flying alongside several "shooting stars" that look like Aether and Lumine when they arrived at Teyvat in that one trailer, as well as the 5 star wish animation.

It's crazy that in the honkai series, genshin may be the ultimate game.
If genshin is a world inside the sea of quanta, it would make sense for the skies to be fake, for the vision of the future be the quantum "abyss" energy to be leaking from the skies, and for the abyss to be infinity AKA space+chaos. Also means that by scaping sea of quanta, one can find themselves at the Honkai Impact universe, which would make Fischl and Keqing's appearance at Honkai Impact have a lot of sense actually.
Gets even crazier when you notice that some specific characters from genshin do have the knowledge even if the Irminsul is locking them in a repetitive cycle of failures.
If you finish the book of esoteric revaluations the author said that after the cataclysm the sky would look like it filled with purple abyss energy and there's a huge crack in the sky almost apocalyptic so there's someone who didn't let that happen or the whole teyvat is actually filled with Abyss energy the world is just kept in some kind of dome using fake skies by someone possibly the sustainer
_Genshin_ *is* a Honkai game. Its working title was _Honkai 4_ . On the Chinese players' suggestion, they changed it to _Genshin_ , the tern for Vision holders (Allogenes in English), and the marketing dedpartment added 'impact' to connect it to _HI3_ , but only for the global market.
In total, there are four _Honkai_ games currently:
- GunGirlZ (Houkai Gakuen 2)
- Honkai Impact 3rd
- Genshin (Houkai 4)
- Honkai: Star Rail
While _Tears of Themis_ is also somehow part of the Honkaiverse on the Imaginary Tree, _Zenless Zone Zero_ has ben stated to be separate.
There's also a fan-made patch to allow for play with English translations for _GGZ_ . They're far from great, but they're... functional, I guess, is the best way to put it. It's a shame they closed the Global server, but it is still playable, at least.

10:29 - the samsara in genshin is not on a small scale though, weve not seen it happen, but its pretty much confirmed that teyvat is in a loop/samsara and if you have done the Fontaine quests and read rene's notes, it is revealed that this is the final loop. no new civilisation will be born if teyvat is destroyed now

If the shared multiverse idea has been directed by one person all this time... Does that explain the sheer disparity in writing quality between the main quests and the lore/world-building material in Genshin??
I don't think it's one person. Each game has its own team. Most likely they follow a similar "template" to stay somehow consistent throughout the games.
Similar to a company's structure, I believe the director will only be in charge of details that are related to the multiverse idea. They will be responsible for quests that heavily refer to the cosmology concept of Honkaiverse, and make sure that some multiverse details are incorporated into other quests/lores, so that there is a sense of consistency.
However, there are also other teams who work with that director. Aside from making sure details concerns multiverse are included in the stories, they pretty much have their freedom to write any kind of story about nations and characters in the game.

Recent genshin lore drops have implied that the existence of samsara extends beyond just the Sumeru archon quest, and that the whole of Teyvat has been through multiple cycles already. One thing I have to mention though that wasn't mentioned in this video and might cause people to wrongfully assume. The samsara in Houkai Gakuen 2 works differently, it's not the Honkai that resets civilization there but the Stigmata Terminal Alaya, which was created by Dr.MEI in Era Zero (1st Era)
Also there are actually still ways to read GGZ in English. Hoyostans being one of them for early Retrospective (Project Gekkou) but there is also a website that contains all stories and event stories, with it being translated until Reborn Chapter 12 (AKA until when Global Existed before being shutdown), but its technically using game data so won't mention name here, you can try to look it up if anyone's interested

I knew that there were still ways to play the game with machine translations and about Project Gekkou, but didn't know about that website. It's nice to see so many people interested in the game. I'm thinking of compiling a few ways for Global players to experience the story and present them in a video in the future. Who knows? Maybe we can bring more people into the Global GGZ community.

Random theory I have that is not exactly related to this video but I was reminded of it 😅:
HOMUs are definitely interdimensional beings, seeing as they are popular franchises in MANY HoYoverse worlds (even Tears of Themis!), but especially Houkai Gakuen and Honkai Impact! In the chapter focusing on Durandal how she is actually Kiana, you see these beings that resemble HOMUs that help her in the Imaginary Space. This also happens way earlier in the game with Bronya, when she was in a coma and Fu Hua used Fenghuang Down to get her out of it .
Homus a the true Gods of the Honkai Universe. That is factual and true.
Isn't it just a easter egg though, because the Homu Bronya saw in her coma was Fu Hua choosing Bronya's favorite character to lead her or smth, and the durandal part was because the Kaslanas before her forgot their own identity and became Homus

God it make me feels so damn old remembering that I played "Fly Me To the Moon" and Honkai Gakuen Day 1 of release. The games were so basic that I genuinely never would have expected the the premise and the company to grow into a massive powerhouse that it is today.

Tears of Themis, the forgotten middle child of Hoyoverse
It's not like I forgot about ToT, but we never got any official confirmation from HoYo that the game is part of the Honkai Universe. (unlike the others) While there are plenty of references to other games in ToT, for this video series, I wanted to work only with the games that HoYoverse officially confirmed as part of their shared Universe.

10:25 it's not just sumeru archon quest, but in fact recently, new fountaine lore drop revealed that the entirety of tevyat is stuck in a huge loop were civilizations are destroyed over and over again (likely by assholes aka celestia and phanes) and this current cycle which is the cycle in which traveler is journeying, is the final and last cycle, after this there will essentially be no tevyat, as the primmoridal waters of tevyat will remerge and destroy it.
I'm still behind the Fontain content, but I'm looking forward to play it now.

This was a really nice break down! I knew about Fly me to the Moon but I didn't know about the game before that. Its really cool that some of these ideas never really left and were reused, and I can't wait too see what they reuse in Genshin and even in Starrail.
Personally for Genshin I like the project stigma theory, which is that the world of Teyvat is the result of project stigma succeeding, which could be why reality seems kind of weird and how Kevin could still be involved in the story but you don't need to have any knowledge of HI3. (HI3 Kevin and Genshin Kevin are two different versions)

i knew some concepts, kinda, i tried to play hi3 before, but i really kinda skipped some story bits bc i got overwhelmed...
anyway, the retroactiveness of time took my attention in turn to some weird genshin things with time, it would explain the weird sakura planting and especially that one line in one of the books... i think it was enkanomiya book maybe, i just remember it said "only the future can save the past not the other way around"

thank you so much for this video! i started playing hoyo games in 2020 where i played genshin impact. i quit for a few months but then picked it up again in 2021. i recently stopped playing it and now im playing hsr, so i guess i could be considered a new fan. i dont know too much about the honkai universe but i do know a bit of hi3 lore. its really interesting seeing how they all connect.
You know, never knew the Travelers had drip marketing... and considering Kevin Kaslana is the one signing theirs off and considering what both Aether and Lumine's say... that's honestly a lot of better information and evidence for trying to connect them to Project Ark than a lot of what in my opinion: Ashiikai's Projecty Teyvat theory had in its final episode where it got a lot of things about Project Ark seemingly wrong.
Then also considering Kate Kaslana is still in the game files still and she was leaked with a whole plethora of characters that did get in the game, despite some weapon changes for a few like YaoYao, and Mimi getting turned into Kokomi and Shenli being removed from the game and then reintroduced with a tweaked design as Shenhe... I wouldn't be surprised considering she's different enough looking from the Travelers if they repurpose her as a returning Knight of Favonious from Varka's expedition in a future patch with a tweaked design or as the missing 10th Fatui Harbinger we don't know about considering Pierro doesn't count and Capitano has to be Ranked 1st of the Harbingers or Childe's remarks on him make no sense whatsoever.
Reminds me that early design of March was leaked too with Star Rail when the whole leaked characters sheet existed before Mihoyo finally took it down, had a proper name too, wouldn't be surprised if like Dan Heng, March 7th gets that design and name with a five star variant in the future.
That also said... now kinda wishing we had documentation detailing info about Genshin's alpha DYKG style, since it doesn't seem to be well preserved.
