2012 Hyundai Azera Drive and Review

- ( www.TFLcar.com ) For 2012 Hyundai Azera is all new. This fill-sized sedan from Korea competes with cars like the Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300 and perhaps even the Lexus ES 350. For a base price that starts around 30K, the 2012 Hyundai Azera offers a lot of value for the money. The Azera can be had with a massive sunroof, it comes standard with plenty of leg room in both the front and back and seats that are all day road trip comfy. However unlike some of its rivals the Azera is front wheel-drive and not the fastest and certainly not the sportiest car in the segment. Check out this first drive review as we put the new and Sonota like Azera to the test.
Nathan tries to pass the Nissan Frontier and he says his foot is all the way down?? Very strange...I hear no hard acceleration from the Hyundai engine but you sure as hell hear that Nissan screaming! If you're trying to make a point don't assume your viewers are as stupid as you are.
Normally, you guys do pretty well with the reviews. But when you went to pass, your foot clearly wasn't all the way down; the engine sounded like it was idling, and from watching other reviews of this car (and watching your entire review), I know you can hear the engine at the top of the rev range. You could easily have passed the pickup; why you chose not to, I don't know.
two fat guy in the car to 0 to 60? not fair..azera has been proved one of the best car in this segment..these guys always critical..
these guys are lier..
0 to 60 for this car is only 7.4sec..dont give us wrong information any more please..
I know this is old, but I have an azera....its quick. I also owned a genesis, loved both. Not sure what was wrong with your car. I can past most in my 2013.
The 'Zera is soooo beautiful. Black Noir and Smoke Metallic are its best colors. It deserves to trounce the Regal GS with a generous V6 and a handsome interior. Most importantly to me, it is NOT a Buick!
Not a quality review. Do not use this as a basis for whether or not to buy this car.
Very nice car.
Not a quality review! I think there is a good reason they never let you in... this review is biased. I say this because first you are not comparing apples with apples... and why would you take a car mile above sea level, then tell people about less air, combustion, and power then associate this with a specific car? (even human lung have to work harder at higher elevation) Other wrong impression you have conveyed is about the looks, Azera is considerably larger then Sonata, and have its own unique personality, specially rear and rear fender haunch. Avalon is a nice car but more expensive and 7'' navigation and rear heated seats are available only in 4th (highest) trim.
What I find odd with these two is they review the car opposite of its intended manufacturing design. Its not an Infiniti G37 which I proudly dumped for this car. The G was fun but when you compare speed to a cruiser like the Azera you shouldn't be doing reviews. Who wants to go super fast anymore with gas prices, crappy road surfaces where you feel every bump anyway. The Azera is wonderful..Keep it up Hyundai! I saved 35,000 by blowing off the 535xi and I HAVE NO REGRETS...just SMARTS.
Like the Nissan maxima? 290hp full-size sedan. I think this is better because it has a 6speed and not a CVT. great video, great car.
My boss owns a azera. I like the car rides very smoothly.
and as always... you guys are the most enjoyable review-ers to watch on youtube, and anywhere else... look forward to more vids! (other ones like motortrend tend to get boring because of the host/hostesses!)
Great review as always!! The LeSabre part was quite funny! Thanks for the entertainment!
0-100kmh takes 10 seconds? Im not sure if they fully throatled while accelerating because l4 2,4l 180hp can do 9,6 - 10,5 seconds
Psst... no it does not. Besides, at high altitude it takes longer... as we said in the video. Thanks for watching.
Roman, do you think this class of cars is still relevant? In ten years, do you think we will see this class disappear?
So what you all are actually saying is if you want more power spend more and get the next model up, if you want more leg room spend more money on the Toyota...so if you were a smart preformer you spend the extra three grand and buy the Buick LaCrosse with the Touring package which has the leg room for the rear seat and the power to get it moving.
Happy early father's day guys. Great ending! Nathan is the man!!!!
Your passing test vs. a Nissan Titan.......... not fair the Titans a beast
He said LeSabre -- LaCrosse became its replacement. The first design wasn't strong, but the current Buick LaCrosse is super. Would be my choice over this Hyundai Azera. Another car to compare as well, Nissan Maxima.
Dudes, that was awesome man! Junior's real cute. Thanks for a great review!
I dont wanna be a jerk guys but I noticed you said "Buick LaSabre" @2:38 . Which hasn't been in market for nearly 10 years, I'm sure you mean Buick LaCrosse. Great review by the way!
You are so right...thanks for your kind comment. We get at least a dozen comments per day saying that we either 1) need to learn to drive or 2) my 10 year old Corolla is faster. It's sort of sad as many of these comments meant to put us in our place...reflect a profound lack of basic knowledge of how the internal combustion engine works.
Their review just seems very unbalanced......
Don't you mean the Buick LaCrosse, not the LeSabre? I'm pretty sure the LeSabre was discontinued after the 2005 model year, with the LaCrosse as its successor.
The engine's overall power output may change with elevation, but transmission/throttle programming won't. As with...any other car with a typical automatic transmission, it would've kicked down to near the top of the rev range had they floored it to pass. It didn't, and so they must not have. Just sort of deserves a cocked eyebrow, ya know?
What's the difference between azera and grandeur ?
you did not floor it when the truck was flooring it
love your reviews..funny and light hearted. :)
You would love the current Hyundai Azera
and I don't know if the Azera manufactured from Korea is different than the one manufactured from the US.
Thinking of reviewing the 2014 one ?
It would seem that most of this review was dedicated to trashing this car. How is this an old persons car? I would drive one & I'm only 41. I would think older people would go for the Genesis or the Equus.
I'm only 33 and I own one.
I'm 42 and just bought a used 2013 Azera as our 2nd car. It drives and handles much better than my 2015 Altima.
It was, I swear. Look, I like the Azera a lot, but at high altitude (a mile above a place like Jamaica) it needs to catch its breath (and rework its combustion algorithmic settings) while dealing with our "thin" air. Sorry you didn't like the result - thanks for watching.
lol...nathan's son at the end was a really cute addition :) happy fathers day guys :D
You forgot that it competes with the Nissan Maxima. It's also V6, FWD.
Does anyone else hate the trend toward synthetic cloth being used on the sunroof's wind dampener. I have noticed a lot of car manufactures going to this as opposed to a solid piece of plastics that you can wipe off when dirty. To me it just seems cheap.
lexus es as same price, whichones better guys ????
It's no wonder Hyundai didn't invite you to any events. You start a car review by mispronouncing the name, and mock the car like a pair of teenagers. I mean, who does that? The lack of objectivity in this video is only surpassed by the total absence of professionalism.
Well, we'll look in to it. Right now, we're upgrading a few things and trying to balance our meager budget. I blew up my old G-Tech a few years back - so I'm a little hesitant to lay down lots of dough on one. Still, it may be time to try something new. Thanks for watching!
SOOOOO CUTE!! Didn't know Nathan had a boy?!!
The Buick LeSabre..... kinda been off the market for a number of years roman -_- I think you were thinking LaCrosse or maybe um.... Impala should of been in that list to?
Nice car and great
The best car in its class
Much better than the Lexus Es350 2012
Where are you guys located? And when are you going to move to the beach so you can get some power out of these machines?
Oops! Got my Buick La.....mixed up.
Interesting... but the Japanese took advantage of Americans by re-naming Toyota cars, into Lexus. Many of the higher-ranking Lexuses in Amercia are just better Toyotas...
Kia shouldn't be killed, they provide very strong sales as well as a different design scheme.
Kia is also very old, but not only that, it's very popular in Asian and European countries.
I suggest you search what the Kia K7 and K9 are, and see how strong designers at Kia are...
Our 0 to 60 mph was 10 seconds flat measured at about 6,000 feet elevation. The passing power is compromised too. As I said in the video, there is a noticeable delay in kicking down to a lower gear, the Nissan had no such delay. So, with our camera guy and my weight, slower performance and sluggish down-shifting, the Nissan proved faster. Thanks for watching.
Adam, to be honest Trek is paying us every time we slam a car because as you can clearly see that we hate all cars with a burning passion. Just look at us...Nathan and myself are obviously built to ride bikes.
Super fast car
Still, starting a brand new luxury brand is costly as well as risky.
Though for Toyota and Honda (Lexus, Acura), it seemed to have worked for them.
But I can remmeber that once that the brands were started, it was very difficult, and the early decades of their start had poor growth, because most, if not all people, used to call them a "poor man's luxury".
But I see your point, I guess it can work in the long run, perhaps.
where is there?
I enjoyed the passing test.
It would be helpful to know what kind horsepower the truck has.
Also...Maybe rename your segment " A Dude And A Dink" ....
Boiling Kimchi HAHAAH ahhh good old Nathan, sticking with his awesome jokes
So are you ViperBOSS74 - Thanks!
The Azera is a great deal for the money. It starts at $32,000 - whereas the Lexus ES starts at nearly $37,000. The 2013 ES (which we reviewed) is an excellent car and the power delivery and ride are best in class. Still, the Azera gives you nearly the same overall driving experience - so it's a question of taste. I think the new Lexus ES is a better car... the Azera is a better bargain. It all depends on your wallet. Thanks for watching!
How does an Azera, with a proven average 0 to 60 of 6.2 secs,...fail to pass a Nissan Frontier 4x4 with a proven 0 to 60 of 7.4 secs?
(These are sane elevation numbers, of course.)
I like the looks, but I would also rather get the Genesis.
I have this car, there are no acceleration issues. Learn to drive.
when he tries to overtake the truck you can hear the truck RPMs is very high, in the Azera obviously it is on a very low RPMs
It has to be 1000 last month, the whole year? That would be waay below economies of scale. Mercedes sells like 600 Smart cars every month.
SO why don't you star doing reviews near sea level !! :)
i know, but its still a sexy " 4D Coupe" selling for similar money.
Good old VQ in a pickup pulling on the Hyundai sedan while it tries to pass... haha good review.
is there a 2013 model expected somewhere this year?
I don't really understand how Hyundai could have sold more Equus than Azera.
I'm so glad I watched this video AFTER I bought my 2013 Hyundai Azera; having the error of my ways so clearly delineated would not have been nearly as humiliatingly effective had I not already been an owner of the vehicle. What could I have been thinking when I test drove this car when I am only in my mid 50's? The occasional looks of what I took to be admiration from coworkers and friends must in reality be looks of abject pity at what a stupid douche-bag I was for falling for this car.
It's 4 years later. How did the hyundai hold up?
Love this car.
The Eco mode was never on.
That Yugo t-shirt is great! (c:
Did you guys forget about the CC ? It competes lol
my Parents have the 2008 Version on the car really love the car black on black Actually be a Camaro SS in a race and nice inside
This is a bullshit review. Why are they comparing a luxury sedan to the expectations of a sports car. I own a 2012 Hyundai Azera Limited. I'm still in the honey moon phase with it and I have had it for years. It drives wonderfully, accelerats powerfully, and is dead quit inside while driving .Its has a ton of leg room and I'm 6' 2". The steering does have a little feedback, but again, its not a sports car. It is a rare car in the USA because it is only made in South Korea unlike their other models. You rarely see it on the road which make me like it all the more as a head turner. These guys can shovel it. Let real luxury car professionals create a review.
awesome car, least favorite reviewers
Maybe you need to come up with some sort of sea-level conversion factor just to throw the clueless off the trail.
Awesome car. I own it. Who goes fast anymore. You get tickets in every community now. These guys slam every car they get into. Who pays these tools?
please review the kia cadenza
Yes, the moment I put my foot into it to pass, so did he. I had my foot to the floor and he pulled away. I know because I was there. Thanks for watching!
once again ..... they are a mile above sea level. engines act differently. I live in Indiana. When its a nice cool day and low humidity car is faster than 90% humidity.
wheres what
Avalonia!
I wish they would sell this car in Canada!
I was somewhere in between sarcasm and satire; I think. At least I can pronounce the name "Azera," without stumbling. I enjoy the car, it is smooth, quiet, and looks good. (I can hear the icy sniffs of disdain from here to New York--really people, get over it already). And if it doesn't run, I have the 5-year warranty to fall back on until I get rid of it.
that is really strange. did they give you a broken car? my car weighs only about 20 pounds less but only has 255hp and its a ton faster than your (probably broken) azera
p.s. i live at 2200 feet
Did he it competes with say Buick LeSabre?
I hear ya. Hyunadai built a great 35,000 dollar car. Steering is a bit numb and pick up lacks a little,,,but who cares, Cops write more tickets and gas prices climb and road surfaces suck...great car...yes the bikes are the way to go. Say something good and then weigh out the differences for the consumer...we all get paid for something so I hear ya. Peace.
You guys are just so cool. The sunroof is the only cool thing about the car.
Yep!
you're son is SOO CUTE!!!! reminds me of my son!
I think the other taller guy should be the one popping out of the trunk and sticking his head out of the sunroof.
5.8L Titan
It can't overtake a Frontier??? Now that's downright gutless.
Buick lasaber? It s Buick lacross
I bet you guys are tired of talking about altitude, huh?
When looking for a big car, my go-to answer is the Chrysler 300 / Dodge Charger. And with the V6 and 8-speed, they get better highway mileage than the Hyundai, swooshy styling be damned. I like the Hyundai; I'd take it over the Avalon, but not over the Chrysler. Honestly, though, I'd have a hard time looking the dealer rep in the eyes and saying no to the V8.
it looks quite original; somehow Genesis is like an Infiniti G copycat.
5.6
Toyota Avalon whatever this Hyundai Azera is way nicer than the Toyota Avalon . .
I say this car in person. I dont really like it... it stands out but not in a good way. I feel like the design is saying too much.
they review it 3 videos after this car.
.....I called him once....for being a fool and not taking account the fact they're a MILE ABOVE SEA LEVEL
I agree! It is not a SPORTS CAR, lol. Agai, who cares about speed in this luxury style ride?
