Edify, great word Bry!!! Great content. Listening to the history is awesome. Would love to sit and have a beer with those guys. Thanks for the info on CGC, been waiting on 2 books for ever!!!!
It wasn’t just the sale. They immediately laid off a significant portion of their staff immediately following the end of the sale. It seems an odd strategy to increase your backlog and then restrict your ability to meet the demand.
The Reprints actually always have a Different Price On The Covers and have different Color Variations Than The Original 1st Prints or Comic Publishers.😊"
I submitted a few signed (JIM LEE) books at NYCC. I was informed the other day that two books were damaged in transit from the show to Florida. One appears to be totally wrecked. I’m wondering if you might have any advice on how to handle this situation? Just curious
Need some advice…What’s up Bry? I just received a copy of a Doom 1 Prism Foil that I bought off of Whatnot. The bag was blown out of the bottom and a small portion of the corner foil was rubbed off from the tight bag it was in. It’s very small but noticeable. Should I return it or roll the dice and send it in to CGC? I bought it for $200 by the way.
Great point Bry. I sent in 45 comics during that event. There were 9 that I just wanted graded. I received those last month so it only took 25 days. I am getting back 21 tomorrow that I had pressed so those were a little longer. The last group is being graded so I expect to have them back before Christmas. I was expecting it to take longer, but I feel like given the number of submissions they took in, this was a good turn time. Thanks as always for the great content and perspective.
I try to be patient, and remember that there are no comic book emergencies. If it were for a life or death situation like a kidney... then I would worry.
If we sent in prior to October the 10/10 deal shouldn't be delaying our submissions... Don't they claim to do them more or less in order? (Outside of priority turnaround upgrades, which most October buyers didn't use.)
The real problem is the Vintage sale that they did over the summer ($30/book, min 15 books). That's when the backups really started. Current TAT for Vintage is 115 days; that's August, not October.
@@jeffstanley6013 Yeah it's been slowing down all year. My March submission was very fast around two weeks. My Aug submission arrived Aug 26th and was shipped back on Oct 1st.
The wait times with CGC are just painful. It’s why I’ve decided to sit on Modern books to see if they go anywhere before bothering to submit. Good luck with the re-holders.
I have just sent in a butt load to CGC again !!! both vintage and modern knowing full well it will be a loooooong time befor I see them again, LOL thanks for another great show. Todd at HTH (Highlander Treasure House)
I think CGC's chat moderators have a one up on their CSR phone answering brethren. I'll explain: I posted a question regarding my submission and timeliness while bringing to light some inconsistencies. The moderator answered my question in a similar fashion to yours but then bestowed upon my account a credit. Not too shabby.
Yea I submitted 2 books at Baltimore comic con in early September for JSC sign and grade. 3 months later they are still sitting in schedules to be graded
I remember my days working at Toys R Us being blamed for all kinds of stuff. Like why is this thing only available in New York not available here or you must be doing something wrong and thats why my card is declining. Definitely dont miss that, and will never do that to anyone
It's me I swear iv sent in a few orders over the years and every beeping time they take forever . Soon as my books are back then they are all caught up and turning books out like crazy. So frustrating!!!! See you in 2026 my books 😢
Another issue is. Right before the 20% off modern submissions they had a 20% off vintage submissions. I think they were barely caught up from that when the deal for moderns went out. And then they had layoffs right in the middle of all this.
Curious why you didn't say this September Re-holder 25 day max Submission since its at 90+ days are you going to update the website to reflect delays? I did that with watagames in 2021 They changed their website to express orders only and had my item shipped that week
I remember thinking about submitting several books to CGC. Almost 100 books. But then the horror stories came out. Now I just buy CGC books since the seller has already dealt with the pain for me. Might need a PITA fee on CGC slabbed booked 😂.
I just got off the phone with CGC as I was seeing books submitted after mine on eBay & mine are still marked as “received” they were “received “ on Nov 5th she could not comment on anything,I am getting away from grading.
Let it go, far and long, into the ether and just forget you ever sent it and then enjoy the shock of curious surprise you have when you get the FedEx notification. It's about all you can do. And then just hope there's no straggling DNA in your case when you open your parcel.
I understand grading and to a lesser extent encapsulation but after 10 years back in the hobby I still can't bring myself to sending any of my books to cgc. And as a buyer I will always search for raws first. And the cgc drama never affects me. Just saying 🤷♂️
As mentioned previously, I have had five silver age Avenger books at CGC since August 24th, so the ten for ten deal should not have any affect on those. Definitely has me less likely to submit any additional books in the near future.
I sent some magazines in 8/26. JUST made it to grading. Turn around times when I sent them in - 19 days. I'm done with CGC, and with the exception of completing my runs (Byrne FF and X-Men will be finished through CBCS), I might just be done with slabbing. Hard to judge what to "flip" with 6 month turn around times.
The more likely culprit is the Vintage sale that they did in July ($30/book, min 15 books). Vintage TAT is currently 115 days which points to August. 10/10 might not help things, but it's that Vintage sale that really slowed things down.
The reason for the backup is so that CGC can manipulate the market and ultimately the values of the books by holding them back and controlling not only the numbers on the census but the new FMV that they’ve established. When those values go up CGC will be also be able to skim more money from their customers. I’m thinking this market manipulation might be considered illegal?
Submissions are pretty low lately (so far, they're on track for about 400k for the last half of the year, which puts them back at 2019 levels), but I suppose if you fire enough people, you'll be swamped.
This delays suck even more for dealers who having money tied up for so long can make or break them. At least no matter what the high value and unlimited value books get back quick. As for the collectors spotlight videos . I actually really like them. Get to see other salty bastards like myself and there awesome collections and hear there stories.
Awesome vid and the collector vids are incredible! Silly question though: Anyone know what Wonder Woman issue that is at the center on the top row? It’s 🔥🔥🔥.
They fired a bunch of graders for 4th quarter numbers. Read how many they let go. It’s in their reports. I think they are either reselling it or stock listing. The times slowed before the 10-10
That is why I do not get any books graded myself. I collect comics not slabs. If I want it in a protective case I will buy one of the ones available for $5 to $10
Except that the 10/10 sale was in October, only 60 days ago. The TAT for Vintage is currently at 115 days. That's August, not October. I think it's far more likely that the current delay is due to the Vintage sale that they did in July ($30/book, minimum 15 books).
I can understand checking on your submissions once or twice, especially if it's well past the date they were supposed to be done, but constantly badgering customer service is pointless.
YEP CGC HAS HAD 1, YES 1 BOOK OF MINE SINCE AUGUST.. JUST A PRESS AND GRADE.. THEY RECEIVED IT CHECKED IT IN AND IT HAS NOT MOVED SINCE..HOPING TO GET IT BACK BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR...NOT LOOKING GOOD THOUGH..REMEMBER AUG ,SEPT . @@lukaskidd4621 Yeah grading started with coins, bills & stamps because those are easy to do forgeries with. It gave collectors a ease of mind. I've got one that's been there since early June, but that's due more to Jeremy Renner not getting off his butt and doing his signing than anything else to do with CGC. LOL

Great show Bry! The collector spotlights are great, keep them coming.
I’ve worked in customer service in a call center before… worst job ever. And I’ve had an overnight negative 15 degree freezer job before.
Could you make a video about reprints? Like how do you know it's a reprint or how many reprints do they print or are all reprints worthless, etc.

I’d have to see a picture but unlikely you’ll get the $200 if it comes back low grade
Hi I have a question.
"If you send your comic to CGC for grading today, how many days do you usually have to wait until it is returned?"
Depends on the tier, expected turns are listed on the website but they always change…
Good to know for when I start submitting. Thanks
Thanks for your efforts Bry. I agree completely with your philosophy of “Don’t add to the suck.”🤣 Keep grinding bro! ✌️
Sent my very first CGC submission for the 10/10 sale. They just went into ccs process this week. I wonder how much longer it will take lol

Welcome to the hobby!
I loved the collector videos. Lots of nostalgia.
Something inside of me enjoys checking everyday and see if my submission has made any progress.

“It sucks.” As you said. Thx for the video.
It's amazing how short some people's memories are. Remember COVID days when it was a year before books got back?

"we're backed up because we're backed up" basically
