I was at the Montreal Olympic stadium 2 years ago this summer wanted to see parts of history I know they had a alot of roof problems had to go I was in Kingston hometown visiting though road trip lol I live in Windsor now they had sailing racing in Kingston
Gotta love when ppl use random comparisons to describe objects. The Montreal stadium tower being 3X as tall as the leaning tower of Pisa is a perfect example... EVERYBODY knows how tall the Pisa tower is, don't they? It's not like anyone can visualize anything like 50 stories tall or anything. (Fun Fact: When I double checked my guesstimated comparison w/ Mr Google the average height of 50 stories was the same as the stadium tower: 514 feet)
Living in Montreal, I can say the Olympic Stadium is One example of every major public works/infrastructure debacle since the Olympics. For us, it's over priced, over due, and doesn't work right 👍😩
The stupid engineering firm who finished the tower in steel insted of concrete from the original draft, made it some 15 metre lower than what it was supposed to be. So when they installed that kevlar roof which were kept in a werehouse for more than ten years, all the mecasism which were tuned for a 550' feet (170m) tower were off set. They open the roof one time and they got so much trouble closing it back that they decided to never open it again. One more major thing, the stadium was built where there's no bedrock, it's a very bieautifuf gray clay ground, they had to inject tons and tons of concrete to made a ''solid'' base under the stadium. On top of this, the 34 cantilever towers are not connected together at the base they have independant footing. So what they call the anneau technique, the circel where the roof come down have gaps of more than 1.5 metre up and down. Very bieautiful and exquisite but at a billion and a half in 1976 money, we payd dearly for a stadium which is barely used, baseball club gone, the football teem have nothing to do in playing in the east side of the city and the sound is disgusting for stadium concert. Bravo Jean Drapeau (the mayor who got the Olympic), the construction firms, the union and engineering firms who were involved in this fiasco project. Concrete trucks were getting in on one side of the place and getting out next to the entrance to come back 2 and 3 time by other ins or getting registered for a delivery at the Olympic stadium and dropping their load somewhere else. The union decided to stop working and plugged the piping with concrete, there were no expansion joint made for the event, they were done after the show. Total corruption and scams, they were aware that the stadium have to be ready for the opening of the event and there was no postponement. Bunch of criminals. Thank You very much !
Montreal twice in 2 episodes? How lucky of us...
Not surprising lol. It’s been a shitshow of corruption for years
I saw it three times
Will look at past episodes
We’re doing great over here 😅

2024...the Quebec gouvernement still is searching a solution for a new roof.
they need to find something better than salt for the ice
a latex based would have been better
