As was mentioned, the in-lore reason for regening health post CE, but not in Reach, is because the Chief got his new Gen 1 Mk VI armor that included built-in biofoam injectors. The Gen 1 Mk V armor as seen in CE and Gen 1 Mk V(B) armor from Reach did not have the built-in injectors, just ports where cans of biofoam could be injected (such as when a health-pack is picked up in-game).

hey guys, thanks for the replies. I'm not too well versed the lore of the game. I understand now but it does seem silly that the suits seem to have a unlimited supply of this bio-foam. Maybe 343 or the guys who write the books might end up saying that the chief uses bio-foam, on top of the healing augments but I know that idea isn't canon, also that it may never be canon.

Well given that by the time of the Spartan 4s. R&D in augmentations had advance to the point where individuals at least as late as their late-40s like Buck and individuals in general who failed Halsey's gene screening could be given Spartan-level augmentations. It indeed makes sense that few remaining Spartan 2s who are of among the physical peak of Human abilities could and should receive retroactive augmentations to better their combat and tactical capabilities. I would hope such is give more light in the future.

    • @wren7195
      @wren7195 2 года назад +25

Right, very agreed and a good point-out. The whole reason Halsey did her genetic screening protocols, went through gene augmentation and then even a step further physical augmentations leading to structural superiority (muscle and bone both) alongside advanced biometric integration of next-gen neural link interfaces.... ALL of that dangerous (psychotic, ...?) process was simply so she could get her IIs to where she could sync them with MJOLNIR.
The Retconian (*COUGHS* I'm ok, sorry I mean the Librarian... hey I'm forty now, I love sci-fi and grew up with the Bungie era) said that her geas likely led to all of these advances, and considering all of the very meticulous (and illegal) lengths Halsey had to go to in engendering this terrifying sequence of events is... premeditated even by my sci-fi standards. I know Bungie didn't just dump everything after Halo 3 and disappeared narratively (Reach maybe withstanding?) they had notes and story and lore and yay! and I love it. I really do like the deep-dive of the Forerunner novels, and just... gah.
Honestly the Halsey Journal is my favourite thing Bungie's EVER given me. And I *LOVE* the games. *hugs* I love that journal.
Halsey and even humanity as a whole was obviously following a geas to reach this point, what was the trigger? AI? The horrific brain-scan tech that makes smart AI? I know that Forerunner ancilla are implied to decay but only after millennia, it's still terrifying to me that they used Composing Technology in the way that it works... and used it on other advanced species preferentially... much like Halsey's flashcloned brains? Good gracious mercy. Everything she did was dark op as F, and I don't even know here. I just don't know.
I was the *ONLY* moron screaming "MIRANDA'S HALSEY'S DAUGHTER" at Halo 2 all those years ago, due to the books lol... Annnnnyway.
The Forerunner are ok with driving a lot of folk insane as long as someone is productive regarding "The Plan." Sounds kinda familiar.
Gosh I'm babbling a wreck I'm sorry, anyway you're right and I'm incredibly impressed with the R&D (ONI was going nutz I'm sure for a while now) leading to new Spartans... and honestly I'm GLAD to see the IVs, scared but glad. I'm just... it's like with all black ops mate it's, what'd they do to get to this point? You know folk in ONI were doing a LOT of stuff with her protocols... and happily pin all of it on her...
Being an old girl, I've got the "Original Halo Encyclopaedia by DK Publishing" from back around Halo 3, where even then they had a profile section of Buck.
"If he was any better, he'd be a Spartan."
Well colour me intrigued and OH Halo 5 alright yes please oh gosh no I'm sorry no I'm sorry no.... but Buck and more IVs yes.... gah no...."

you'd think with the cost of producing a spartan-II they'd mitigate the risk of death by furthering the research prior to applying it to humans that cost as much as a fucking starship but naaah, ONI's accountants must not have been happy with Halsey.
Also, i suppose with muscles as dense as those of spartans they're probably really hard to move and wouldn't if not for carbon-laced bones + the strength of those muscles themselves and other chemical reactions (hormones and such) within a S-II's body. Like pushing a car = lifting an arm kind of hard.

The cost of the Spartan-II project really came from Project MJOLNIR. Each suit of armor was the price of a small starship. In comparison to the hardware, the human component of the Spartan-II program was relatively inexpensive.
The other thing to keep in mind is that ONI, and Halsey, believed the Spartan-II project to be basically a last ditch effort to stop the Insurrection from destroying Humanity. As such, the cost was not really a factor in considering if the project should have any delays. They could not delay. ONI wanted super soldiers ready as soon as possible, but at a certain point more money doesn't reduce the time that takes. Halsey picked augmentations based on, essentially, two criteria: first, will the side effects of the augmentation hinder the Spartan, and two, can this potentially deadly treatment not be used and still allow the Spartan to be as effective as he or she needs to be to get the job done, and not die anyways.
The technology of the time, and the state of the Insurrection, meant that these kids needed to be augmented when they needed to be augmented. And what they would be needed to do dictated how powerfully they needed to be augmented. After that, the rate of mortality was going to be whatever it would be, there was nothing more they could do that they hadn't already. And, Halsey cryo freezing the "failed" candidates was not just with the hope that they could be revived later, but that those Spartans that remained active would be able to buy Humanity the time for there to be a "later."
And then the Covenant arrived on Harvest, and the fate of Humanity shifted almost entirely away from the Insurrection.

Why not suppress Myostatin and do A grahene or nano-tube lattice on their bones while removing the grafts?

    • @Installation00
      @Installation00  2 года назад +28

A fair argument. However there are some limitations. The muscle enhancement Augmentation effectively increases density and strength through a similar mechanism to follistatin, so in that respect, the suppression of myostatin would have negligible effects on the Spartans already immense strength.
Graphene is immensely strong, but it's strength is measured based on a similar analogue. Thicker graphene effectively turns into Graphite. Graphite is brittle. Even if the graphene is deposited in perfectly ordered matrices, there would be no sheer strength or compressive strength the only useful property would be tensile strength (stretching), and there are precious few circumstances where bones are pulled into breaking. It's much more common for compressive and sheer forces to be what breaks bones, mainly because pulling forces would damage ligaments and connective tissues long before the bone themselves.

I was thinking that when I clicked on this video. Chief's healing ability might have been empowered by whatever the Librarian did to him, which doesn't apply to the rest of his fellow surviving Spartan IIs or the IVs. However, Chief most certainly have given Halsey information about that event after the Halo 5 events. She could have looked into him and found something, then developed more augmentation based on Chief's biological enhancement and given that to Blue Team. Still, we don't know enough about everything Spartan so that's just speculations and what 00 said might not be 100% accurate because we only have tiny bit's of Chief's case to look into.
That being said, being able to fight after getting a huge chunk of flesh burned clean off while having molten metal dripping on the wound is just gnarly.

It is entirely possible. At this point we can't say for sure. Though, the Spartan-IV augmentations, at least in part, require a certain degree of maintenance. Be that in the form of a strict diet, medication, or actual technical maintenance. By contrast, the Spartan-II's and the Spartan-III's (excluding Gamma company) do not need any of that. They likely need to eat more than a normal human, but they don't need to eat additional exotic (for a human diet) materials like the Spartan-IV's. This means that the II's and III's can effectively be in the field indefinitely, such as Spartan-II Grey Team, while the IV's either cannot, or operate at reducing efficiency the longer they are in the field. So, giving the II's and III's the IV's augments may not be a no-brainer sort of move.

This is more of derivative speculation in my opinion; remember all spartan generations have undergone extensive gene therapy as part of their augmentation profiles which could very well boost their natural regenerative capabilities. However that doesn't mean that augmentations can't be tweaked to enhance a spartans natural capabilities; it is a known fact that spartan 4 Hellcat Mjolnir operators have their augmentations altered to make synchronization with the armor easier.

I support this hypothesis with these: Spartan 2s had been known for extremely fast reaction time especially under stress and having incredible feats of physical strength that would require massive amounts of adrenaline, so the adrenal glands would be altered. I also have noticed that the Spartans are known to be anti social, especially master chief, along with Spartan 2s having higher intelligence, thus alterations for mental capacity have been made. Even in gameplay we see that even without biofoam that the Spartans have massive amounts of health and can heal significantly faster. The fourth is the most interesting as it would be in there to accept augmentation for the polythread weave on the heart. Use these facts as you see.

For the Spartan-2,3,4 it too risky but a ONI operators it would work. ONI shown in the past the length the would go to insure victory, and if the ONI operator dies on the table it acceptable loss , but not for any Spartans.

no talk about the Spartans 3's from ghost of onyx and how they had some different augmentations then the Spartans 2's or 4's since they were setup to be kamikaze or as I like too think berserkers units

they are probably the precursors, the ones who seeded the galaxy with life, live forever and have control over time to a degree.

@@alex_HL hope so also hope we don't go down the whole time crap thing yeah I think the precusears created them to take the mantel so the rest of them couldn't and the fourrunners wanted all the power for themselves so locked them up since they couldn't be killed by the halo rings but they don't sound like they mean the galaxy harm

@@michealmurphy8985 yeah the forerunners fear most not being the ones in control of everything so they did that

Not to mention that the spartan II's were already the peak of human genetics way before they ever got their augmentations.

Spartans are meant to be more than just super soldiers. They're humanity's next step.
Imagine if a baby born between two Spartans naturally had all of these enhancements.
It would have to be a test-tube baby if between Spartan-2s but 3&4 have a chance.
Also while only just past the 'first level' or tutorial section of Halo Infinite, I for one am enjoying the story thus far.
