  • An unexpected audience as a herd of young heifers decided to join our swim this morning (and yes, we were very cautious around them), they were just curious and wanted to know what we were doing.

Cows are so curious. I grew up in the country, and they are mesmerized by humans! And such gentle creatures... (well, mostly, sometimes one will get a bit ornery, we had one of those, we never did figure out what her issue was, but she certainly had one... or maybe 2.)

Loved this! Brilliant that you weren't put off by cows! I was walking through a field with my Jack Russell and another woman was afraid of the cows. I showed her how i walked through them with ny dog on a lead. Every so often, when they got a bit too close, about an arm's length away, i turned around and put my arm out, to ask them to back off a bit, which they did as soon as I turned around. Felt like we were playing What's the time Mr Wolf! 🤣

I’m just envious of the lovely creek swim, since I live in the desert! 🐮

Their expressions are so funny! "But you don't LOOK dirty, humans, so why the bath???"

I wonder...is there a fairytale or Disney movie, in which cows play a major role?
I know they're Native American myths in which Buffalo play a role. But I can't, off of my head think of something of European origin.
Although, well...there was that Greek story about Zeus turning into a Bull and getting yet another woman pregnant... resulting in the Minotaur.

Young cows. Insatiable curiosity, combined with "is it feeding time?".

I always liked passing fields on hikes with my old dog because young curious cows would always follow my old boy and I.

To be fair, you ARE swimming in their drinking water...😅
I'd be curious if someone was swimming in my drinking water, too.

When I was a teen, we had this dog... He was a herding dog, and would always follow us, including into the lake when we bathed. Then he'd get back on shore and shake himself enthusiatically as close to our towels and clothes as he could. That's why we started hanging everything in the trees. The dog is long gone, we still hang our clothes and towels in the trees when bathing there. (He also followed after us when we went rowing. Sooner or later we would become afraid that he'd exhaust himself and drown, so it always ended with us pulling him into the boat in the middle of the lake. So safe, right? Eventually we wised up and brought him with us from the start).

One time my family was picking up a perfectly functional piece of furniture from the curb that someone was throwing away, and these cows all gathered at the fence to watch and started mooing and mooing.

Don't half feel daft wandering around in some old trainers and a bikini clapping your way through a field to get to the good spot to get in!
