How brilliant is Alan?? I've been twice this year and he somehow manages to find time to help you out and give you some advice when he's working full time. The mans a legend. Lovely film.
He is very brilliant! A very kind and supportive man for sure with a great talent for what he does. Hehe aww this is really lovely reading about him and I know what toy mean, he is always happy to help. Thank you and a big thanks to Alan for being great! ☺️
This has been the best and my most favorite video on the 150-600. Very few have been able to deliver such amazing pictures as yours. I’ve been thinking wanting this but haven’t seen anything from RUclipsrs that made me think it can deliver, you have changed my mind. Thanks again for the brilliant photos and continue doing what you’re doing. You are great.
Awwwww this is soooooo lovely! Thank you! That really means a lot! I really wanted to test the lens thoroughly for anyone out there deciding which one to go for. There will also be a full review coming out soon so keep an eye out. It definitely can deliver and I will be buying for myself - i loved it that much. Thanks again, this means lot ☺️✌🏻🌳
Thank you! And yes definitely, if it can bring you closer to nature then why not! It’s a wonderful experience. He is a brilliant man, thank you Alan! ☺️✌🏻🦉🌳
Lovely video, we’ll crafted and fabulous shots. Sometimes we hear Tawney from our house and in the winter see sparrow hawk regularly, even had a Kingfisher land on our fence once.
Thank you very much ☺️ aww how lovely is that, so much wonderful wildlife at your doorstep, I hope you get to enjoy it and take pictures - if you do photography ☺️
Great images, I’ll be watching some more of your RUclips videos, thanks for the info about the Hide, I'll be checking it out. Hopefully I’ll get there myself. All the best.
Awsome to see someone who enjoys wildlife, nature and photography as much as many others I have met over the years. Those that show no interest in nature and wildlife photography are missing out on nature's incredible show through the season's. I have know Alan for years now and he's a top man, always willing to help and teach especially when I was a novice photographer. My son and I have spent many wonderful hour's at Alan's hides. Enjoyed your video very much.
Thank you so much for watching and your for your lovely comment. I agree, people do miss out on a lot of goodness that can be found in nature and with photography. So glad that both you and your son share time together at Alan’a hides, that is really lovely! And you are so right, Alan is a very kind man and definitely willing to help. It was so great to have him on this vlog because you can really see how much he cares about and enjoys what he does ☺️✌🏻
Stunning pictures and videos Victoria. The whole thing feels so fresh and interesting. It is the kind of film that inner city school children should watch and learn the benefits of seeing and being close to nature. Well done you. Can’t wait to see the Puffins. 👍😎
Awww this is so lovely! I would love it yo be played to children, it is all from the heart and joy of nature and the more people that can see it the merrier. Nature has definitely helped me so much in life, even inspiring me now to make these vlogs. It’s forever sparking my creativity. Thank you and yes… lots of lovely puffins on the way ☺️✌🏻🌊
Another enjoyable video. Very nice interview, I’ve always had interest of checking out hides for wildlife, but have not done it yet. It’s very enjoyable when you find other people interested in wildlife photography that has the same excitement. Thank you for another fantastic video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the interview, it’s good to hear the mind and heart behind the hides. I cannot recommend going to a hide enough, definitely do research on a reputable one and just really enjoy the experience. I think they are great! Especially the people you meet and thanks again ☺️
Everything about this video is so beautiful and peaceful!! LOVE the B&W of the owl and all the shots are so wonderful!! Excellent interview with Alan as well, and the bloopers are always a hit😀
Aww thank you! Really happy you enjoyed it 🙃 I love B&W shots so definitely had to add a few in, I am glad you like them! and yes, Alan is a great chap and was really lovely to interview ☺️✌🏻☀️
That is a fantastic watch Victoria! Thank you for sharing your experience with us, & you did well to spend time with the man himself. What a guy! We’ve been at his hides this weekend, amazing experience as always. Great vlog with some lovely images, footage & b roll, I’m now a subscriber 🙏🙌👏👏👏
Thank you for watching 🙃 So glad you have been and had a great experience too, I will go back again, it was sooo good! Thank yo for subscribing too 🙃✌🏻
Lovely content! I’ve just stubbled across you! Lovely tawny owls got similar shots in black and white and have them printed in a trio! Looks great and keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
Hi Victoria! You have a brand new subscriber! ME!! 😁😁 Absolutely stunning photography and video. I think I must be quite spoiled where I live. I see Sparrow Hawks on an almost daily basis! Only fleeting glimpses most of the time, although I did manage to photograph one on someone's television aerial the other day!
Aw hello and thanks for subscribing! welcome aboard! thank you so much and it does sound like you are very spoilt with beautiful wildlife daily - but also great that you appreciate it and make the most of it 🙃
The mega zoom really is impressive. It also performs amazingly with video on the X-H2S! I like how you can get really close and get all the mannerisms and details (even if they are gory at times). The interview was a cool bonus, you were quite the professional interviewer and the interviewee and his accent were awesome too. 😎👍 It's awesome that you've learned so much from this adventure and it's good to see you happy in that last shot. ☺ And puffins next? What a treat! 🥳
Thank youu! Yes that zoom has really surprised me and I think it’s very impressive! In particular with the filming!! Thank you, yes I like looking at the little details. Aww so glad you enjoyed it! It was great fun interviewing Alan and he does have a very cool Scottish accent! I’m sure he’ll be happy to know you thought so 🙃 It’s crazy how much you can learn in such a short period of time but it definitely has had a big and positive impact to my photography - and smile, as you could see I was beaming at the end! Yes lots more good stuff on the way ☺️
Aw thank you for watching! Especially if you normally do other genres! I appreciate that 🙃 and yes, if you can, just give it ago and have some fun. It’s a brilliant experience 🙃
Hey Victoria. Fantastic video, really loving all the wildlife photography you have been doing. The owls shots were my favorite, I think you captured them beautifully.
Thank you! You are always so lovely! i am really glad you liked the shots, it was a very beautiful moment, And now this has been posted I can catch up on your videos - I saw a quick glimpse of the birds of prey one, that looks amazing! Thank you again ☺️
Absolutely fabulous video. Congratulations. I have the X-H2s and 150-600mm combo but have to date restricted myself to photography, but I must say I have been a little disappointed with the images I've captured, especially in low light. However, I noticed that many of the photos were ISO4000 and the images were so sharp and clear. I'd love to know what technique you used, for example did you use manual and fix the ISO at 4000 or have auto ISO? You have inspired me to put more effort into video work and again, I'd love to know your video technique and settings.
Hi Victoria, just found your channel and subscribed. Lovely video and great shots, really enjoyed watching this and I can definitely connect with your passion for wildlife and photography. I was there at the end of May and had a fantastic day, though I never met Alan. I came away with some wonderful shots and I'll be back there later on in the year. I've now got the watch all your previous content, looking forward to that, take care.
Thank you for this, what a lovely comment 😊 I am glad you understand the passion for wildlife and photography, it is definitely something I cannot shake off, I just enjoy it more and more. I’m also super happy that you have been to the hides and came away with wonderful shots - fingers crossed for when you visit later on this year and hopefully you’ll get to meet Alan then too, he is a gem! I will hopefully be going back too to photograph King Fishers in the autumn time. I hope you enjoy the rest too and take care 🙃
Very well done and beautifully made video AND interview, Victoria! I really like to hear the story behind each photo. Everything in photography has to go through planning, preparation, and consistency in order to achieve great results. Of course, timing and luck play an important role as well but you build luck with hard work and perseverance. Thank you for the motivation, from the technical side, as well as the real-world experience! Amazing effort, keep it up! :)
I am very sorry I missed your lovely comment! Thank you for watching and for these thoughtful words 🙃 You are so right, if you can plan, prepare and be consistent then you are free to let your heart and mind flow when you are out in the field. You are more welcome, I hope it helps you and thank you for your support! Thank you again and have a wonderful day! 🙃
Really enjoyed watching this again it’s so nice listening to people so passionate about what they do. Can I ask you which camera you prefer and why? I’m coming from an XT4 and thinking about upgrading to an XT5 or an XH2 and wondered if you could give me any thoughts on using both. Many thanks in advance 🙏
Thank you! Yes I was super surprised how well both camera bodies did with low light and high ISO and obviously the lenses performance was fantastic! It is sooo much fun, I want to keep the lens 😂
It is tricky to say, I struggled with it at first but the more I practice and got used to it, i then loved it! So I would say definitely practice a lot with it, read the manual and just tweak any of the custom buttons to suit you. I did need a good shutter speed when using it hand held as it is so long so any movement is more exaggerated (like it is with any telephoto lens) and I did have a filter but to be honest, I think I would try it without or if you are going to get one then get a good quality CPL or UV filter. I hope that helps 🙃
Thank you so much! Well this is an interesting question and something I will be talking a lot about in my review coming up for the 150-600 and X-T5. But I found at times the buffer to be slow when shooting in the highest burst mode. For normal or low burst shooting it was great but I think it was down to my SD card speed rather than the XT5 itself - as I tested this on my XH2S as well 🙃
Happy video, full of fun, smile and nature. This is refreshing. I am looking forward to your review on the XT5 and XH2S for wildlife as they are both on my radar (my XT3 is still going strong but bird is for sure not its shining side). Cheers
Excellent video. Have been wanting to find out more information on owl hides and owl photography in Scotland and this could not have been more timely. Thank you!

How do you feel about the animal/bird eye detection? One of the things that made me hesitate about fuji as a wildlife photographer is that animal and bird are seperate settings, have you had any issues toggling quickly when the 'wrong' subject comes about?
This is a very good question! So, i think the animal detection did great maybe like 75/80% it did well - in shadows or high contrasted environments it wasn’t the best but I guess that makes sense at the camera can’t easily recognise a subject. You can leave animal on and it does notice birds but like a whole body. I guess in situations with multiple animals I would just use normal focus or continuous focus - with tracking (and on many occasions I still use this as I just prefer it, I don’t always want it to focus on an eye.
