    This was my first Shining Force game and I will forever love it. I was blown away when I played 2 for the first time, and it became my favorite by far.

    Can't wait for you to cover Shining Force 2.
    Got into the game since 2018 and have gone through the game about 20 times doing challenge runs and streams for those who just want a chill run.
    SF2 did have development issues which is crazy because of how amazing the game is but you can easily tell from so many characters just get ignored in the story and recycling of battle sprites or promotion portraits just not done for most of the cast.
    Slade is the best boi for me in this game I always love thief n ninja classes in rpgs and also I love rats in media and in real life to also I feel that Slade is the first good rat protagonist especially in an rpg before the lovely Freya Crescent from Final Fantasy 9.

      SF2 is great, I already recorded the playthrough. The video for that one should be towards the end of next month. I don't know that it had development issues so much as they wanted to squeeze as much on the cart as possible and just reused a fe assets. It's a much bigger game (lengthwise), but the cartridge size was only bumped up slightly. SF2 is still great and I look forward to doing that video.

    Great retrospective! I haven't exactly played Sword of Hayja, but I have played SFCD as well as Final Conflict, so I have a pretty good idea of how it looks and plays. Overall, I'm very impressed how well they downscaled the Shining Force experience, but you're right, losing the exploration hurts it a lot, and it was a real missed opportunity that some exploration wasn't added in SFCD.
    So far I've played SF 1, 2, CD, Resurrection, and about the first half of 3.1. SF2 is easily my favorite, so I'm looking forward to the next episode of this series.

      Thanks! I played the Sega CD version first (and more often), I didn't play the original GG version until years later. They definitely did a great job with it overall, but I do wish it was a little more substantial. As far as SF3 goes, play the translations of the other scenarios! The first scenario is OK, but the other two games, while similar, are better overall.

      @@InglebardGaming yup, I'm working on playing all 3 scenarios right now. I even tried modding my Switch to play emulators to have a more convenience play experience, though the switch isn't quite powerful enough to avoid frame skips, so I'm playing on my phone with a clip on controller. Just got through 3.1 chapter 2, that whole chapter was rough, between trying to get to Irene in time, trying to save the refugees trapped behind the train tracks, and the 1 wide choke at the boss on the last fight. But chapter 3 is looking interesting.

    I like playing these Japan made games for the SMS (in Game Gear shape) in the Master System, using the GG2SMS, as it makes me feel somehow the Master System finally received a bit of Japan developed games, while some games were developed but never released there for the Mark III, Shining Force for the 8-bit SEGA console is just so cool. With that, it's amazing how they managed to make such game available for the Game Gear.
    The highest the Shining series ever got, in my eyes is the Shining Force III trilogy, but all previous Shining games are great, from the Darkness to the 8 and 16-bit, Sega CD remakes and exclusive content, with the exception of Shining Wisdom.
    Still, I think turn-based or strategy RPGs aren't hard, spedially Shining Force with the Egress spell. Developers should have made it so that when used, new enemies would regroup and capping experience even more each return to the church, this would force players to take these battles seriously, planning carefully each action. When I say these RPGs aren't hard per se, we can agree that they can be laborious. SFIII has an Insane difficulty, you can access difficulties by finishing the game (or each scenario) and upon restarting it, the option will be available in the Pause menu, or you can use the SFIII save editor to play like this without having to beat the game first. With this, I'm sure each battle will become laborious and will have to be carefully planned, taking advantage of the friendship bonuses and the such.
    With all that, I can't recall watching other summarized playthrough of RPGs, works for me!

      Yeah, overall the SF games aren't especially difficult. It can be tough, especially in 3, to get some of the optional characters before they killed off on the battlefield, but just winning the battles usually isn't especially hard.
      Still, it's really all about how well you can develop your characters and how big you can win. The first time I played SF1 when it was new, it took me a few tries to beat the final boss. After playing the game a few times I can absolutely crush it. So in the end, skill still transforms the gameplay when you figure it out.

      Interesting trivia at the beginning too, didn't know about that. Also, if I may ask, what exactly is color blindness, do you see colors differently?

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  Год назад +1

      @roberto1519 yes. For me personally, blues and purples can look alike, brown and red, light green and yellow, and a few others are hard to distinguish. For other color blind people, they have issues with other colors.

    • @roberto1519
      @roberto1519 Год назад

      Have you considered that the rest of the world, including myself are who actually see colors wrongly, I mean, what colors are actually? For instance, how can someone explain to somebody who were born totally blind what and how colors are, how would you even begin, with temperatures and feelings? It may sound like a joke, it kinda is, but I like to think that there's the possibility 99% of the people are wrong,, that's not impossible, is it?

    I've only played the Gaiden games through CD. I played them in immediate succession, and this was definitely the more memorable part story-wise, but I was pretty worn out on the same stuff by the time I was done with it. I can't hold that against the original so much, but I wish it had a couple of new classes or something to spice it up a little.

    • @InglebardGaming

      I didn't really get tired of Sword of Hajya mainly because it's so short, I didn't have time to. I agree though, that if the game was any longer they would have needed to do more unique stuff with it.

    I quite liked this game. The problem was my game was really finicky and often deleted my saves. So I played through the first few battles a lot.... I did best it at least once eventually.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  11 месяцев назад +2

      I don't know what the issue was, but I've run into issues with saves being deleted from the first Shining Force along with the first two gaiden games, I lost saves from both GG titles while recording these videos... super annoying.

    Can you make an Utterly Pointless Comparsion between Sagaia (Master System) VS Super Darius II (PC Engine Super CD)? It could be good a comparsion between 8-Bit consoles (yes the PC Engine is a 8-Bit console).

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  Год назад +1

      Sorry, I replied to this on my phone the other day but it apparently never uploaded. I don't plan to do a full UPC comparing SMS and PCE Darius II. Generally I either do an arcade or original version vs one of its ports. I might look at them in some other series or one off video, so I'm not saying you won't ever see them together, but it's not in the plans right now. The one thing I can say is that the PCE CD version easily outclasses the SMS game, even though its really impressive on SMS.
