A acre of land might only be a few thousand but your annual property taxes are going to be at least $1,500 a year property taxes are extremely high in the state of Illinois

I would like to make a correction about the land in East St Louis on the MLS there's five pieces of land for sale and according to the MLS the taxes at the highest we're only 300 and some dollars I don't know if that's per year or per 6 months but I think it's a lot lower than what I thought initially

East St Louis had the Stockyards until the early 1970s and steel mills, meatpacking plants and such as well. Tough jobs make tough people. It's been a rough city since the early 1960s but jobs gone now.

I used to live in this city in the 80s and early
90s; the problem is that this city is also in an environmental cancer cluster area; many of its residents have died of cancer due to exposure to the various chemical plants on the city’s periphery. The casino 🎰 that’s there in the city barely provides the city any money. In the beginning of this video, the people are driving in East St. Louis’ State Street which used to be a thriving commercial sector. It’s sad to see the neighborhood around that main thoroughfare be devoid of residential structures…..it’s amazing and sad to see all of those brown fields now.

While you went to the worst parts of East Saint, you ran several stop signs, while driving in the middle of the streets just to show the poorest areas. A lot of the homes are from allegedly
slum lord's like Sieron Fauss, RG realtor, and many which steal the people homes thru highest taxes in the area. They don't fix their homes up when they rent them. Many if them boarded up are from slum lord's who don't stay in the city but in well to do neighborhoods. It's easy to drive and record but next time have pen and paper , take down addresses and find out who the owners or investors are.

I think until the state of Illinois gets a handle on their debt, spending, and high tax rates cities like East St. Louis and Cairo will continue to rot away. Why invest there when other states surrounding it are more financially stable.

    • @69eddieD

Even if Illinois got it together those cities would rot. They became obsolete 50 years ago.

Glad you were able to film there during the daytime, the city population peaked at 80,000 now at around 18,000.How low can it go!The city had had it's issue with severe race riots, noted for the 1917 East St. Louis Riots, where up to 150 African Americans were lynched, murdered, tortured and forced into burning buildings that left over 6,000 homeless, mostly Southern blacks who moved there looking for a better life to work at the Industrial sites there.Cairo Illinois has had a terrible racist past also.

Don’t be deceived by the downtown skyline in St. Louis. The majority of those offices are vacant. I’ve been in many of them as a window washer. Our grandparents fled inner city problems to build suburbs in the 1960s and 70s. It was easier to leave. Businesses, along with revenue followed. The arch was actually a last ditch effort to make something of a blighted area.

Years went by and i came back home to St Louis and i got a job in East St Louis Illinois as an armed security officer that was fun .
When there was fire i was going to look outside but the black guards was like where are you going. They told me
don't go outside for at least 20 minutes because it's not over the bullets were hitting the sheet metal and then a car full of kats in it with choppers drove by.
The car came 5 minutes after the first fire .
