Great video, Amber! One of the things that surprised me was how valuable it was to get positive media coverage (especially in terms of attracting new supporters who did not know about us previously) and how negative media coverage was *not* as harmful as I usually imagined it would be (especially if it was an one-off negative article, as opposed to a drumbeat of coverage over many months).
Definitely! I think it (obviously) depends on the story. I've seen negative media do damage for other orgs, but generally when it was pretty scandalous and maybe they deserved it. :O
One of the ways I'm growing is that I'm "the leader"--I need to make executive decisions. Another thing that I'm in awe about is how competent my team is. My heart keeps growing and it's very moving. Another thing I'm learning is that none of it is cookie cutter. There are generalities, there are aspects of things that the experts will do, but the actual journey has to be unique. (I'm not sure why that surprised me.) Amber, your videos are so great and encouraging. Thank you!
I COMPLETELY agree with this. Before my org, I never really thought of myself as a "leader". But then ... I was. And I needed to start acting like one - eventually building more and more trust with people. It's a give and take!
It's what I'm doing now, building the website, thinking about the content, thinking about the design, hiring the lawyers, thinking about the finances, marketing....but I like it!!))
I'm doing this by myself. I'm a survivor of DV 20 years, my niece just passes from it March 26th & now I started a Shop in her memory on Facebook in hopes to raise money to build a Safe home for women & children name The Savanna Julianna House. I don't know we're to start it's always been a goal. Losing my niece has made up my mind I'm running out of time. I have not even started anything none profit. Just the shop & so much to learn.
Hi Susan, thank you for sharing your story. Have you written out any plans in a business plan of sorts? That can help you clarify your goals, identify your funding and materials needs, and outline your research on how it will serve the community.
Have you already started a nonprofit or have you been working in the nonprofit world for awhile? What are a few things you learned that nobody told YOU before you started?
Greetings from Botswana, Africa with love 🇧🇼 Sis honestly registering a trust (non-profit) and being the sole founder has been THE hardest thing I have ever done in my life. The paperwork alone made me want to give up on this God-given vision. I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and it's given me the oomph to do this. 🤗 Thank you for your content and great work.
Thank you for your videos. Is it possible that you could you do a video on item essentials/ gadgets that have helped you stay organized and have a better NPO? For grant writing i got recommended to buy a dictionary, thesaurus etc.
Actually I recently did a video about that! Here it is: Starting a Nonprofit: 13 Free Resources and Software 2021 ruclips.net/video/fQGFkTcczSY/видео.html
Not sure if you saw my other comment yet, but there are various companies out there who can help. :) You can search for 'help filing nonprofit paperwork" as an example.
You can but you need to be transparent with donors that you don't have your 501c3 yet - check out some of my other videos on fundraising as a start-up!

@@AmberMelanieSmith Yes I'm working on that & almost done.
What a wonderful video Amber. I loved it. You addressed here most of things we use to manage with in our Journey. Very useful all your content.
Yay! Thank you Daniel! I hope you are well!
What I wasn't told before joining a nonprofit: how to muddle through the bureaucracy of local government to get tasks done.
Yesss. I think that depends on the nonprofit's model too. Some orgs don't deal much with local government, others do. But I feel ya!
Have you already started a nonprofit or have you been working in the nonprofit world for awhile? What are a few things you learned that nobody told YOU before you started?
@Mushtaq Ahmad Khan MAK Hi! I am not on whatsapp but share your question here, maybe the community can help!

What company’s help me start up a non profit .. as far as paper work ?

Is there a company that will do the paper work for me ? To start one up ? I can pay
There are lots of companies that help with that! :) Do a search for "filing to start a nonprofit in the USA" (assuming you're in the USA)
