    If you like gettin junk done, then you will like the Cub Cadet ST100. About a half acre of my yard has bedrock peeping out in places. I'd be crazy to take any kind of lawnmower out in that. But the monster trimmer doesn't mind that stuff at all. The worst that happens is that it wears down the trimmer line a little bit, and the line is easy to change. You can't beat a walk behind line trimmer in rough terrain.

      I agree 100%. I don't use this trimmer frequently, but when I need it, it's so nice to have.

    Came to your channel because I’m looking for a wheeled stream trimmer. Thank you for sharing. This was very helpful. I also live in upstate New York.

    You can really increase the power of the st100 when heavy cutting. Slightly bend the throttle advance spring mount up. It's located on the side of the cutter between you and the air filter.

    I bought a craftsman some years ago an it was nothing but problems with it. I bought my cub cadet 4 years ago an the only thing I have had to fix was the line holder cracked from excessive use over the years. A little mig tack and it's good as new. I love mine tho I did decide to start using a riding mowers for the rest of the yard an use the trimmer for the really tight places and in the ditch

    "gotta be at least 30 acres" haha
    I was surprised to see you didn't top off the gas when replacing the line. My dumbass finally put that together when I would have to stop 5 mins after replacing trimmer line to refill gas. I'm all about maximizing that efficiency; nothing worse than interrupting your flow/momentum.
    That thing is awesome and might be added to the top of my list of equipment to buy. Far too many parts of the property that go too long without a mow.

      It's a good little machine for what it does. What you didn't see was me topping off the fuel beforehand, not realizing that the line was about shot at the same time.
      Well worth it in my opinion.

    If you double up on the string line it cuts way better and you don't have to change the line as much. It does a great job but is cheaply built and hard to maintain, IMO. So, there's that

    I have paid the same as you for the Troy brand one...but once it gets used, mine would NOT restart till totally cooled....took $ 64 to have a shop fix here, even though i paid $75 extend w. Shop said it ad to clean the carb(?) Before i used it 2x! But now im using it for a elderly lady with a bedrock showing.

    Hi mate, I’m thinking of buying one of these trimmers. It would be used to mow tall grass growing around trees in an orchard. Bigger mowers mow the grass but can’t get close to the trees. So this trimmer would get up close. Currently we use a hand held line trimmer which is hard work.
    We’ve got around 1000 trees to mow around. Do you think it’s worth getting the Cub Cadet? In Australia they are a bit more expensive than in the USA.

    • @GettinJunkDone
      @GettinJunkDone  Год назад +1

      That is a lot of trees! If this doesn't do the job, I'm not sure what you other options are. No matter what you end up doing, You'll spend a lot of time walking and working. Sounds like a ton of time!

      @kdegraa Год назад

      @@GettinJunkDoneyeah it’s a lot of work. I was hoping to get a tractor mounted mower that can mow around trees. The mower is on a spring loaded arm. However a lot of my trees are too small. So grass cutter will have to be walked around.
      Right now I think we will buy a self propelled wheeled string trimmer made by a company called Grillo. It costs more than twice the amount of the Cub Cadet so its expensive, what isn’t now days? I think it will suit the job more as it will be easier to go up hill with it and it looks to be very heavy duty, made out of thick steel. The one we might get can cut down trees with a circular saw.

    WARNING: The cone at the end of the trimmer head is very weak & thin, a neighbor unknowingly wore that cone to where it was OPEN and allowing sand grass etc into it and destroyed the bearings, it appears the bearing are pressed in and that WHOLE head has to be purchased

      tyvm, I think I just figured out why mine isn't turning. I would not buy this thing again changing the belt and oil is a freaking pain too.

    Will this take down Blackberry Bushes?

    • @mom3pookies
      @mom3pookies 2 года назад

      I have the Craftsman version of this. I use the string that is thick (orange/red), it looks like a twizzler. I have been able to take down blackberry bushes with it. I've only had problems with really thick canes. My biggest complaint with this machine is tall grass/blackberry canes tend to get wrapped around the head. I'm looking for a faster more efficient way of removing them when this happens. It's a pain in the tail to sit there with a razor blade trying to remove this junk. All in all I do love this thing and find it worth the investment. I also own an Echo weed eater. I bought the brush cutter attachment to go with it. It will definitely cut down the thicker blackberry canes. I would strongly urge anyone to spend the money and get the full attachment, not just the blade kit. It takes to long to swap them out in my opinion. Anyways, I hope this helps.

    Purchased this walk behind trimmer at a reputable big box store. After putting in fresh, treated 91 non-eth gas..and checking for right amount of oil, would not start. Would NOT start. Had several bird strikes on it so figured it sat outside somewhere for a good portion of it’s life…ascertained it is 2021 model. Tore down and removed carb. The main jet was plugged. (from old gas when started at factory ????). After small eye dropper prime, started right up, but, didn’t run very long. After repeating this 6 times finally continued to run.

    It would been nice to see the trimmer line replaced. I can’t find a single video where someone is doing that and that’s exactly what I’m trying to see demonstrated. Arrrgh.

    • @GettinJunkDone

      Take a length of line about 24 inches or so. If it ends up being too long when you’re finished, it can always be cut to length. Feed the line through the loops on the head of the trimmer and even them out so it looks like you have 4 lines from the operating position. It’ll make sense once you figure it out.

    ABSOLUTE PIECE OF FREAKIN' JUNK WITH A COMPLETELY WORTHLESS WARRANTY! - Mine is less than a year old, started smoking during operation, oil turned pitch black, and I thought, "Great, burned valve or wasted valve guide, okay, 'Three Year Warranty' though, right...?" WRONG! Even though the machine has less than four hours of run time, the dealership said that the valves were out of adjustment, and that would NOT be covered... I said, "Hang on... You're telling me this thing's engine is such a colossal piece of shit that they expect the valves to be out of adjustment after being run FOUR HOURS?" First piece of Cub Cadet Equipment... LAST piece of Cub Cadet equipment. Happily going back to Husqvarna...
    AVOID CUB CADET LIKE THE PLAGUE, THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR EQUIPMENT!
