    Great interview. I learned more about Dr Gersh. I’m excited to hear there may be an additional estrogen hormone in the near future to help more women. I’ve been taking estradiol for almost half a year now. After I doubled the dose (spray) I feel so much better, it’s amazing. Very noticeable: Hair, brain, skin, stomach, legs, back, knees, feet, energy, sleep.

      @@Hollowmoon007 How much do you take? And if I might ask, are you taking progesterone as well? I have a uterus and ovaries…understand that if you have a uterus you ought to take progesterone to protect your uterus. Nevertheless, after listening to Dr. Gersh I would like to try increasing the dose. I’m 70 and looking to avoid disease. I’m pretty healthy though and rarely take any medicines.

      I’m 67 and was on compounded estradiol/testosterone cream and 100 mg Prometrium for 12 years. I went off of everything recently. I put on 20 pounds in the last 5 years. My hormone doctor will keep experimenting on how much to give me. I felt like a guinea pig. She sent me to a nutritionist too. I eat healthy, exercise, sleep fine and have energy but I can’t lose inches or pounds. Not on anything, I will get a few hot flashes but not bad. I’ve also noticed more aches in my back and joints. My husband thinks these hormones are only giving me problems.

    Dr Gersh clearly explained estrogens. I’ve been on a hormonal rollercoaster for 51 years starting with a cancer- induced hysterectomy on my 19th birthday, to Premarin for 2 decades, then my primary care provider taking me 100% off estrogen because it was a cancer risk, but then I started getting new problems like thyroid, inflammation, osteoporosis (which I since reversed to osteopenia) and other gynecological issues. Now, my new 😢gynecologist put me back on estrogen , saying I should never had been taken off it - but only low dose.
    I wonder if Dr Girsh has different suggestions for those with early surgical menopause vs typical menopause. I appreciate her attitude on whole health & lifestyle.

    • @elaine2158
      @elaine2158 6 дней назад +2

      You should be on progesterone too, it's not just for the uterine lining. Why are you on low dose estradiol?

      @@elaine2158 I’m embarrassed to say that I didn’t know any better until I tripped across Dr Gersh’s interview a couple days ago. Now, binge-listening to every interview and podcast she has to offer for at least eight hours a day. I didn’t want to go off the Premarin decades ago because I felt so great. My primary care provider insisted that I stop to lower my risk of cancer. She never suggested an alternative to Premarin. Later, I had complications that I didn’t even know were attributed to my hysterectomy at 19- - not that I had any options, followed by a total abstinence of any estrogens at all in my 50s and 60s. November 8 I turn 70. Mind you, when I was 19, three hospitals said there was no hope and insisted to my parents that I had only three months to live, with a consensus that No one else beat that type of cancer, and she won’t either. 51 years later, I continue to prove them wrong thank Goodness to cancer researchers, and also a little godsend, specifically severe nausea to the chemotherapy (and anaphylactic reaction to the only chemo anti-nausea at the time) to the point that I had no other choice but to water-only fast 3 to 5 days in a row every month for two years during my chemo treatments. Exploratory surgery showed that the cancer was totally gone to the delight of everyone. Unfortunately, I lost my insurance because of my cancer history - - it became so unaffordable that I could not go back to these fine doctors anymore. I ended up with new doctors it seems to me who do not keep up with the latest research literature and white papers. I believe that the extended water-fast on monthly basis were two years, put me in a state of ketosis, and contributed to weakening the cancer.
      Now, I want nothing more than connecting to a doctor who can help me make the best of my upcoming ‘70s and beyond.

    I would like to know why at age 42 I got Breast Cancer. I was told it was estrogen fed. I read the path report which said, "angry and aggressive". Chemo killed my ovaries; I went immediately into menopause. Dr thought that was good and said I had too much estrogen anyway as it was killing me! He said "stay away from any estrogen products". Why did my body turn on me? I have been a scared woman the rest of my life. Oh, I also had fibroids at the time and have long thick full hair. HUM

    • @TheSpaDr
      @TheSpaDr  11 дней назад +2

      That sounds very frustrating. While the doctor was probably trying to simplify the conversation and be helpful, it's important to understand that estrogen alone doesn't cause cancer. If it did, everyone would have cancer because we all (men and women) have estrogen. I hope this episode gives you some peace of mind about estrogen and that you find a functional doctor to support you on your journey.

      Felice Gersh MD talks about progesterone (brakes) being the balance to estrogen (gas). It seems like she doesn't like the term estrogen dominant. You can still be low in estrogen but have too much relative to your progesterone level. Also check out David Brownstein MD on iodine research. Different parts of the body need different nutrients when something isn't healing properly. For muscles it's calcium and magnesium. For ligaments it's manganese. For glands like thyroid breast ovaries uterus prostate pancreas etc it's iodine. He uses Lugol's Solution bc it has potassium iodide and elemental or nascent iodine. Different glands prefer different forms. For example thyroid prefers potassium iodide like in salt added to prevent goiters (however it can evaporate and not getting as much) and breast tissue prefers iodine.

      Dr Gersh is absolutely wonderful, and I try to listen to her wherever she shows up. Thank you for having her on!
      I’m wondering what Dr Gersh thinks about taking estrogen alone, when you don’t have a uterus? If I’m not taking progesterone, am I putting myself at risk for using the gas without any brakes? I’m concerned because I had a hysterectomy (years ago) due to endometriosis. It sounds like taking estrogen alone causes proliferation, but I’ve heard from other doctors that it’s ok in the case where you don’t have a uterus?

      About the progesterone putting the brakes on estrogen. I thought we need that for protection of the uterus while taking estrogen? What about continuous estrogen and you don’t get any bleeding? Do you recommend cyclical estrogen so that the “purging” can occur?
