DJing in a loft is not it, but still a killer wedding!

- I played a wedding around the end of May at a venue just outside of Raleigh called Walnut Hill. The DJs are required to set up in a loft. Needless to say, less than ideal. Tough load in, tough to read the crowd BUT all in all, another great Bunn DJ Company wedding with another happy couple.

With you on the "Hate Lofts". Due to physical limitations I can't/won't/pass. Turn down the gig and move on to the next one that understands the importance of and appreciates the DJ's positioning. The all white looks great. 🥰
I get it, Joe. You're very detached from the party. On the bright side, you won't have any drunks messing with your equipment.
lol true
This is why I prefer to do a site survey before signing a contract ... I hate lofts! Good job! Attitude goes a long way toward the fun for the couple and their guests.
Wouldn't have mattered. Venue mandates it there.
@@DJJoeBunndo they mandate the speakers be up there too or just that you have to be up there?
@@DJ-Coma all of it
@@DJJoeBunn wack!
These loft situations are an acoustic nightmare. What I have done in the the past is that I explain to the customer that speakers MUST be on the same level with the dancefloor, so you can bring them down and put them on both corners there. They take almost no space and the sound is much better.
This! Run wires to the speakers below and use a monitor up top for yourself. But sometimes clients/planners don’t get it and you have to deal with it.
I’ve done several weddings where I was set up in a loft. From my experience to get the best sound on dance floor, all speakers have to be on the floor of loft. If have them on stands the sound goes over top of them
Great tip!
I hate it I feel disconnected but it's looks like your client had a great time. Great video footage.
Still a killer wedding for sure.
Oh man! We have venues like this in Houston as well and charge extra if they want us upstairs with no elevators. Great gig!
Stairs are the worst!
Great setup! Usually if I got a gig in a venue like this I setup the sound downstairs next to the dance floor and using a monitor for myself.
That's a great idea but wouldn't have worked in here.
Well done Joe! I just got stuck up on a loft a few weeks ago. Even worse the dancefloor was on the complete opposite end of the venue. It made no sense: people close to me getting killed with audio, I was totally disconnected from the audience. Not a great scenario. Best JB!
Gotta make the best of it sometimes.
Great Video, got to be down with the crowd so you can connect with them Great job Joe
Absolutely
Brother Joe, do you provide the party glow sticks/wands? And if so, do you include that charge into the package total? The white ELX 200 setup looks AWESOME and what more can you say about the Everse portable...maybe AMAZING!Lastly, how long have you had the Color Key Totems? Curious about the quality!
No, the clients sometimes bring them. They are fun. Colorkey totems have been great so far. Had them a few months. A few videos here on the channel about them.
The last wedding I played at was in a loft. It wasn't too bad. Just loading and unloading sucked. The sound was pretty good . Everyone had fun. The barn that they had the wedding at was the first one the was used for that purpose. Only complaint I had was the bathroom which was a porta- potty was far away. Not really but I had to go outside the building. I had to find a long song to play so I put on a weather girls remix of it's raining men. The crowd was really into it. So I worked out.
Who's idea was it to put the dj in the loft! Lol Jokes aside but yes! I preferr up close if possible always! Joe
LOL not my idea.
My first wedding ever, was the same layout only inverted: the reception was in the split level above me, I could only see people’s feet. Don’t even ask, lol
Wow that is weird.
Kudos to you. Lofts suuuuukk but the money spends the same. Still.
heard that.
Lofts are hard to do I had two this season so far and it is difficult kudos for making it work
agreed.
Thanks Joe! Tell me your thoughts on your ELX 200 speakers? My current Evolve 50s do okay…but I’m looking for something with a bit more power and “thump”. What’s your thoughts?
Honest thoughts, they hit harder, but you don't have the "spread" of the Evolves.
Nice gig log as always. Sucks to be far from the dance floor. And feel disconnection, which controller is that?
Pioneer FLX10
Been there before. It is less than ideal for sure to be that far away from the dance floor
facts
Joe. Curious if you had any trouble with sound quality down at floor level. Every time we've tried to make something work from a loft, by the time the sound bounces off the ceiling and walls and gets to floor level the echo makes it a bit of a mess. Hope you charged extra for those stairs.............LOL. I know I would have at my age. :)
It didn't sound great, but the crowd seemed to be into it regardless.
What kind of d of power cord you use to hook up the receiver to the ev everse 8
I think Ben Stowe made that for me. ben@nlfxpro.com
How do you feel about the Flex 10 now that it has been out for a while?
Maybe I’m strange but being in the loft keeps request at a minimum I bet.
FLX10 is a legit controller. I don't get alot of requests at my events regardless of where i am.
Sound acoustics must have been terrible with that venue layout man. You didn't have the option to leave the speakers down below and use a monitor uptop for yourself? In either situation, it's just not ideal. Sometimes you just got to roll with the punches!
Nope. They said it all had to be up there.
@@DJJoeBunn That really sucks. B&G’s of the future need to be told thats a really stupid idea!
What lights are you using during dancing ?
I thought I covered this in the video. 4 360 tubes, 2 spot movers, 16 uplights all by Both Lighting USA
Warming of the rings is an Irish tradition. They pass it around, they say a small prayer and pass it, and so on. Catholic Mexicans would just steal the rings. Again, I'm Mexican, I know my people..
Nobody puts baby in a corner!
I could feel the "disconnect" just watching your footage Joe. Your system takes up such a small footprint and the dynamic impact of having you there with the party seemed severely throttled back. Frustrating for you, I am sure, and a diminished experience for the guests.
They had a blast. I just wish I could have seen it lol
