For those who aren’t aware, when Moriah says she was “privately reproved”, that means that the elders *punished her*. Private reproval is a form of punishment inside the church where you are under restrictions.
JWs will often punish all parties in consensual relationships outside of marriage and they apparently treated a 14 year old as having done that.

    • @DiegoTeliz
      @DiegoTeliz Год назад +15

Former JW Elder here. The reason Moriah was punished is because within JW policies, a minor can be a "willing participant" of their own abuse. Yes, you read that correctly, a "willing participant". That's how twisted their policies are.
If you google "JW CSA willing participant" you can find a lot a examples.
All these reminds me of a phrase I read shortly after leaving the JWs:
"Morality is doing what is right regardless of what you are told. Religion is doing what you are told, regardless of what it's right." - H.L. Mencken

@@DiegoTeliz I love this phrase as well.
Yes, what you have stated here is true.
I believe the paperwork that is to be filled out by elders after their judicial meetings with a member has recently changed within the last year or two, but the paperwork before the change for years had the question of, *"were they a willing participant?"* So the elders used to answer this question yes or no even with underage miners. Confirming what you stated above.
Another situation that can happen during a judicial committee is, If someone claims to have been raped, one of the key questions that is asked of them is, ( and they are asked many intrusive questions ) did you scream while being raped? If the answer is no, then they ( male or female) are also considered a willing participant in their own rape and therefore can be disfellowshipped depending on who else may know about the rape and/or if they weren't repentant of their willing participation in this act of their rape or wrongdoing. When one may be disfellowshipped over this, it is horrible on the psyche of a rape victim.

Yup. That is some JW BS right there.
My uncle is a JW and was told by elders to shun his daughter because she got pregnant 'out of wedlock.' My cousin was literally engaged to the guy who got her pregnant (and married him shortly after). My uncle didn't meet his granddaughter (his first grandchild BTW) until she was A YEAR OLD. He also did not attend my cousin's wedding.
JWs are on another level. Don't get me started on their 'no blood transfusions' BS.

I love Mark O’Donnell. As someone raised a JW who went on to become a pioneer/elder, I’ve become very jaded about, not only Jehovah’s Witnesses, but the entirety of Christianity. Not proud to admit that. But its the truth. Frankly, the unimaginably dishonest/corrupt/despicable behavior of the leadership of seemingly every denomination of Christianity to varying degrees, I’m genuinely surprised so many people continue to flock to churches/congregations/kingdom halls. Having said that..
Mark has restored my willingness to be open-minded that maybe somewhere there is some sort of higher power’s hands in all of this. That may sound hokey. But it’s what I feel, considering his selflessness, integrity, courage, determination, etc. to not only hold predators within the organization accountable for what they did/enabled, but also to hopefully protect the untold thousands of future children he’s seeking to protect by doing this.

I live in a state in the United States where child marriage is still legal and thank you so much for this. I hope all of this gets exposed. One of my friends was basically sold in marriage to a man 10 years older than her when she was a child. He took her several states away. She had 2 sons by him but he was very abusive and when she tried to escape he took away her children. It's just tragic and sad all of this goes on in modern u.s.

Don’t hold your breath. The difference between organizations like JWs, Mormons, and even morally bankrupt religions like Catholicism and Islam is at least the former universally acknowledge/teach just how despicably horrific it is to prey upon children for sexual gratification(which is why they do everything within their power to hide it for decades/centuries).. whereas there actually are considerable factions within Islam who view it as acceptable and even encouraged. And if anyone thinks I’m making that up, go research it. Its 100% irrefutably true. To be fair, its not all of them. Its not even close to being a majority of them. But there are a significant amount which view it that way. Which is another reason its so absurd for progressives and LGBTQ community to defend these people despite the fact they’d be thrown off a roof while women would get stoned if they look at their husband the wrong way. But that’s a discussion for another day.

"Throughout Islamic history the Muslim community, scholars, and schools of fiqh have agreed that scripture prescribes this penalty; scripture must take precedence over reason or modern norms of human rights, as Islam is the one true religion; "no compulsion in religion" (Q.2:256) does not apply to this punishment; apostasy is "spiritual and cultural" treason; it hardly ever happens and so is not worth talking about."

Hold up these words so holy and pure
    Confused again, yeah, so absurd
You fall down in the pit of fire
You ripped it off, you f acking liar..
This is a way, a way of life
This is your way, your way of life..
Cut up inside what do you see?
A world of hate, just you and me
Forcing thoughts through your closed mind
You fight it off, just a waste of time
Sing through these words of sanctity...
You write in blood the names of your conspiracy
Cutting and draining the thoughts of your minds
Words and eyes conform to the lies...
They burnt out the sky for a fa cking lie..
They all win, suicide and strychnine in your mind.
Suicide and strychnine in your minds..
No hope for today, they burnt out tomorrow..
They burnt out the sky for your fa cking lie..
You'll cry for today, no hope for tomorrow
They burnt out the sky with a fa cking lie.
You'll hope for today, they burn out tomorrow
They burnt out the sky with a fa cking lie..
No hope for today, they break your will..
And take your soul to the grave, to the absolute black of your hearts

      1. So? 2.That's not true. Most "sins" (using the lord's name in vain, coveting thy neighbor, etc.) aren't crimes, and even if someone confessed to an actual crime like theft, that's not something doctors, teachers, or therapists have to report so neither would religious leaders. The first three DO legally have to report child abuse, and the last group doesn't only because catholics and mormons have spent tons of money lobbying against it.
And in case you didn't watch the entire video you're commenting on and haven't read the legal filings or reporting detailing the lawsuits: this man admitted to religious leaders that he was sexually abusing his minor daughters, the youngest of whom was only 6 WEEKS old, years before he was apprehended. He was only caught because he filmed and uploaded the abuse to the internet, where clips are still being shared. Had any of those bishops reported him to police, his older daughter could have been spared years of additional abuse and this younger could have been spared entirely.
Everyone who knew and did nothing is an accessory to child ra pe

@@CeCe-kl3bb but word quickly gets out and before you know it everyone knows what they can’t say to a priest in confession and so they won’t say anything. Whereas now the priest has a chance to council the sinner on how to avoid sin and perhaps more good to society is done that way. It’s better than everyone keeping quiet and sinning. When he goes back to sin the words of an old man will be echoing in his head. I mean how often do you think he will be told…”no problem… enjoy life in your own way… living la vida loca baby!!” .
Besides that it is impossible to enforce.

And again, there is a difference between "sin" and crime. There are also differences between different kinds of crime; some, like incestuous r ape, hurt people more than others. We have plenty of evidence from all over the world of that and also of what happens when clergy keep things in house: children continue to be r aped. Frankly it's despicable if you think that's an acceptable trade-off. Religious organizations need to be held to the same standards as everyone else. Child r apists, p ornographers, and their abettors don't need religious counsel they need prison.
