I feel so dumb in my AP class cause I'm really good at writing but I suck at remembering things, so when my teacher says to annotate something I'm so lost, this helped so much!!! Thank you!!!💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks so much for this video! I'm in an advanced English class in Highschool this year and the teacher expects us to know how to annotate and I've never been taught how. I'm looking to be an English major, so I found I've been doing this anyway for some time. Thank you so much.
you're an English major and you didn't know what the word annotate means? I'm not making fun of you, but here's some helpful advice. Look into getting a Latin and Greek dictionary, and maybe take an Etymology class or check out some etymology books from the library. This will help you in your quest to understand the English language at its core. Understanding a bit of German might help too. When it comes to German, all you really need to do is have an infantile grasp of the knowledge to understand how it influences the English language. English is a dialect of the Germanic branch of languages influenced by French with borrowed words from Latin and Greek.
Thanks for your thorough explanation. I've been showing your video to my high school students so they can hear a different voice providing similar advice. :)
I am an exchange student as a senior and I am about to take AP Enlglish IV.. For summer reading, I have to annotate the book and this video is helping me a lot!! Thank you very much :D
I am 46 years old and going back to college. I have been reading every day for my entire life. My problem with this is that the teacher wants us to annotate things I'm going to remember anyway and I automatically understand, and areas of interest and concern? Zero. Literally. I do not care about this. I'm doing this to get a grade and get some credits, because I have to to reach my larger goals. I do not care about a thing in these papers. None of it is significant. Nor do I have any trouble keeping up or understanding it. None of it confuses me.. It's unbelievably tedious, and for no real reason. For slow people or beginners, maybe. But this is ridiculous.
Thank you so much!!! I've been having so much trouble with this. I'm taking AP English 3 and we have to annotate All The Kings Men, and it's been super hard. I'm going to use this as a reference point
Thank you so much for sharing this. These are more advanced tips as opposed to the other more shameful annotation videos I have come across. My annotations will be much more refined and organized now. :)
I have been out of the classroom for about 20 years and this helped me catch up to speed with the young high school grads in my class on this subject. Thank you.
Thanks so much! I'm starting high school in August and I'm taking honors English. They gave us a Summer Reading homework assignment with annotations and I was freaked out but this was great!
Are annotations a new skill? I never did this in high school or college, but this was 20 years ago. It seems like a distraction while reading, but I'm hoping this is just for assigned reading and class discussions.
Does anyone have any tips on annotating a shorter text (like a speech)? One of my AP Lang summer assignments is to annotate a speech for key terms. My teacher probably just wants me to be able to pick rhetorical devices out of a text and to get used to annotating, but I'm not sure. Her only instructions are to "make complete and thoughtful annotations filling all of the space provided on the page."
i'm not even in school, i just like nerd stuff and like literature. @ all the kids in school, if yall want to make video essays on games/movies/tv..... yeah you do need to know this stuff. i mean i dont, im just a nerd and do it bc i like to
I teach 3rd grade and we're having to teach students how to annotate a text..yes in 3rd grade. So, here I am trying to find ways to help teach this concept to little ones. :l
Your sentences are verbally joined together; i lost track in trying to understand, like you are reading a book to yourself, without considering your listener's ability to grasp the text.
Who else was this watching during school in quarantine?
