Oh my goodness you spoke out against a repaint and remold ... see this has to happen more often from channels like this ... Hasbro and other companies should not ever feel two completely different figures should share a mold just to cut corners ..(or is acceptable). they are making enough. Thanks for finally speaking out on this matter Paul!
+akaBPhife I don't mind repaints and remolds IF they're done decently. Several of them previously i've liked. This one was much weaker though. But trust me, Hasbro doesn't care what reviewers like myself say LOL They don't watch my stuff or pay attention.
+optibotimus again, thank you for the review thanks to you, I will save money and absolutely not going to have him. I have the G1 (complete) and he was one of my favorite combiner. they treated him like a bitch in my opinion. The greatest insult to the fans was to give him the superion head.... thanks again!
+akaBPhife well, the initial release of a toy usual doesn't pay back for the cost of producing the mold, this is the only reason why repaints/remolds exist
+akaBPhife The thing is they could've have might as well given him a remolded Defensor head. That would absolutely work way better, then just give him a repainted Superion head and excuse it with slapping a new name on him, but seriously? Betatron? That's just a horrible name!
killer piggies Thanks for the tid bit .. but as a consumer I'm not concern about the business' bottomline I'm only concern about the product that is offered to me.
+Damian Skyfire How about the Dead End mold? That one has the most rapaints/remolds currently standing at 5 with at least one more coming with Victorion.
Agreed! There's only one (and a half if you count Brawl) mold in the whole Combiner Wars line that I don't like, and that's Breakdown. I get peoples repaint/remold fatigue, but for me personally, it's a small price to pay to get combiners that look good and are fun to Transform. But yeah, space it out a bit more. Or DON'T give us all these Autobots that weren't combiners originally. :P
the paintjob is the main problem, if you look at it in robot mode compared to the cartoon you can actually see lots of similarities, just neought to consider the mold a modernized version as much as silverbolt is, i think what people hates the most is the fact is virtually the same mold, but more than just the idea, the design is indeed there, maybe takara or the rumored boxed set version will please fans of the character, because i still think is the 3 tones of red(which actually look too similar in person) what kills the look(and again the fact is just an slight remold)
People seem to expect a lot for 20-24 bucks. Do I agree that at times there are too many repaints? Of course but it's always amusing to hear opinions from people that have no idea about running a business, the cost in developing these molds, the engineering involved, etc and they have to do this to keep that price point that we've all become accustomed to. Takara gets away with often charging 80-90 dollars for these same voyager class figures with a little more paint in Japan, Hasbro crushes it with their leader class and voyager class figures when you consider the price and quality of the figures.
Ironically, Computron is the ONLY G1 combiner I have and would love to have an update of him in Combiner Wars fashion. Like you, he was prefered growing up because of his intellect and Grimlock association. I dunno, following Bruticus, Computron would be a perfect send off instead of the mashed up Sky Reign idea.
I'm usually forgiving when it comes to retools/redecos, but this is one I don't like. It reeks of laziness, they didn't even bother changing the combiner head!
Thanks for another great review Paul!!! I love the techno bots but I absolutely refuse to buy this lazy attempt at a cash grab. I personally don't mind repaints however when you don't give the character an appropriate head or the right team I just can't support you. If they actually release the technobots id buy him and hope for a third party head. If not then I'll just save my money. Here's hoping Takara does the right thing and saves the day. Again thanks for the great review and I'll be looking forward to the next one.
I see this figure literally as a beta figure. A testing of waters to see if it would be profitable and liked if Hasbro made Computron. He isn't the most sought after combiner. He's more of a B list (in my mind at least) and for what he is, he isn't bad by any means. Not the best by any means though. With a bit more retooling, color changing and his own team. This could make a FANTASTIC Computron.
not to mention the combiner head should be red instead of black if it was Computron's head...I recall correctly, to make it even more accurate the antenna should have the top sections cut off so they are roughly even with the top of the head too.
+optibotimus if I was able to pick this figure up I would see about getting the red shapeways replacement antenna and put that on Scattershot and swap his over to Silverbolt so it is less flimsy.
Hey optibotimus have you seen the pre-orders for unite warriors bruticus? They actually have blast-off as a shuttle! I believe it seems to be a groove remold.
I actually like repaints as long as they are repaints of a good mold. I think this is a great mold and I like everything about scattershot except for the fact that they gave him the same old superion head which is just stupid! They gave Cyclonus his own combiner head why can't they do a little bit a change and give us a computron head?!?
great review optibotimus, sad to see that scattershot did't get much remold outside of changing the head and the jetmode part. Im not expecting any major remold for this guy by takara except for maybe a new head for the torso mode and some paint to make it look more like computron. i might skip this and just get the box set that supposedly hasbro is doing that will include the rest of the technobots with this guy. wish hasbro would make more effort on there products instead cutting corners.
what make it worse is the combiner head is molded in white plastic, so why gunmetal instead of maroon? im fine with the face-plate but why a pretty much carbon copy down to the colors as superion?
This guy looks WAY too much like SB in all forms imo. Which is doubly bad because some of us have multiples of SB already because Walmart was selling them like they were Skittles. I know I picked a second one up for $12 when he was 50% off just because. Maybe just keep him in ship mode if you want him to appear as different as possible. One thing I wondered--is the back-end of his rifle (it's kind of flared-looking) able to fit into the open nozzle on the front of the ship? It almost looks big enough like maybe it was meant for it, but I could be completely wrong.
***** Did you try the rifle in the end of the ship nose? I'm highly curious if that thing fits and if it was intended as a way to ridiculously extend the craft.
+UncannyStageRage A new box set (apparently with a new Scattershot) was leaked, and supposedly will contain the following (names unconfirmed, as is the presence of new heads): Afterburner: A retool of UW Groove, made to look more like the TRON cycle he turned into in G1. Nosecone: A retool of CW Brawl, with the drill attachment from Botcon Ramhorn. Strafe: A retool of Air Raid, made to look more like his G1 self. Lightspeed: A retool of eiither Breakdown/Wheeljack or Dead End/Streetwise. Scattershot: Presumed, due to the price. The set will also contain new hands and feet. Of course Takara is going to release a remold of this. It's a marketing scam. Hasbro releases the sub par versions that piss off the fans then in swoops Takara to save the day with the more G1 accurate versions. Superion with Slingshot, Menasor with Wildrifer, Defensor with Groove, Bruticus with a Space Shuttle Blastoff, and Devestator with better paint apps their original pistols and elbows. Both Hasbro and Takara should be ashamed of themselves.
+Spawnfreak No. Hasbro releases the figures that (because of less paint apps and stuff) cost less to make that the kids will want to buy, while Takara goes more for the collectors.
Just wanted to check. I've been seeing reviews of Scattorshot and Onslaught all over the place, but have yet to see anything in regards to U.S. retail sightings.
Trust me, these rumors are credible. Remember when NYCC revealed the first wave of Titans Return? The Transmissions Podcast guys predicted pretty much all of that. And they also predicted newer leaks like PMOP (who got revealed in November), Blurr (who had a leaked image a couple of weeks ago), Scourge, Mindwipe, Chromedome, and Alpha Trion (who's images leaked from the Nuremberg Toy Fair today). For those that haven't heard, they can check it out here: www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/teasers-transformers-titans-return-scourge-mindwipe-chromedome-alpha-trion/34628/ and www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/better-look-at-transformers-titans-return-blurr/34522/
This just feels insulting and lazy. The figure - not your review. :) I mean, like you, I'm fine with repaints/retools if done well and appropriate to the character, but the past year has been almost nothing but repaints and remolds and shoehorning characters into the same ones over and over. The fact that almost all the limbs share the same basic skeleton/transformation compounds it tenfold. I get the need to save money, but geez.
+Jason Sawyer While the figure itself is definitely lazy, it would be impossible for Hasbro not to use the same basic molds and walk away with at least some profit.
Oh my goodness you spoke out against a repaint and remold ... see this has to happen more often from channels like this ... Hasbro and other companies should not ever feel two completely different figures should share a mold just to cut corners ..(or is acceptable). they are making enough.

killer piggies Thanks for the tid bit .. but as a consumer I'm not concern about the business' bottomline I'm only concern about the product that is offered to me.
Hasbro's gone way overkill with the Silverbolt and Alpha Bravo repaints/remolds.
+Damian Skyfire How about the Dead End mold? That one has the most rapaints/remolds currently standing at 5 with at least one more coming with Victorion.
Bits, Bytes, and Disco Knights UGH. It's a good figure, but it doesn't need that many remakes in such a short space of time.
Agreed! There's only one (and a half if you count Brawl) mold in the whole Combiner Wars line that I don't like, and that's Breakdown. I get peoples repaint/remold fatigue, but for me personally, it's a small price to pay to get combiners that look good and are fun to Transform.

Yeah and firefly
Glad they're coming out with a Computron set after all. Id be bummed if this is all we got for a "computron"
And Computron for the reasons you mention was my favorite combiner so the reuse of the superion head drives me nuts!
the paintjob is the main problem, if you look at it in robot mode compared to the cartoon you can actually see lots of similarities, just neought to consider the mold a modernized version as much as silverbolt is, i think what people hates the most is the fact is virtually the same mold, but more than just the idea, the design is indeed there, maybe takara or the rumored boxed set version will please fans of the character, because i still think is the 3 tones of red(which actually look too similar in person) what kills the look(and again the fact is just an slight remold)

hey Paul look on Conbiner wars swindles waist there's a reference to the cartoon swindle (jeep grill and headlights)
i like him but as far as the combiner head, you are right. i cant see not getting technobots for this but only time will tell. robot mode is awesome.
looks like a job for a 3rd party company again...
I'm usually forgiving when it comes to retools/redecos, but this is one I don't like. It reeks of laziness, they didn't even bother changing the combiner head!

+NickSandwichGames agreed, I'd be fine with it if they just fixed the head though. That's what's really bothers me the most
You never know what surprises Hasbro's got until you find out for yourselves
still love that intro
I don't really like this scattershot figure, but hopefully there will be 3rd party add ons for this to make it better
hasbro
"ok... so lets make five toys.... then through the magic of color, pretend they are different characters"
not to mention the combiner head should be red instead of black if it was Computron's head...I recall correctly, to make it even more accurate the antenna should have the top sections cut off so they are roughly even with the top of the head too.
+eldruggedmonkey Yeah the antenna should be shorter and the helmet should be more maroon color
I believe it seems to be a groove remold.
hi optibotimus i was wondering if i should get silverbolt or scattershot?
Easily passing on this and I'll wait for unite warriors computron
This guy is like suppose to be with a prototype combiner.
I actually like repaints as long as they are repaints of a good mold. I think this is a great mold and I like everything about scattershot except for the fact that they gave him the same old superion head which is just stupid! Awesome ... 😎
Do you think hasbro will use the skylynx mold for hungrrrr of the terrorcons to give us abominus?
what make it worse is the combiner head is molded in white plastic, so why gunmetal instead of maroon? im fine with the face-plate but why a pretty much carbon copy down to the colors as superion?
Great review! As always :) But dude, love the watch! What is that?
Goran Klintenheim I call it betashot cos the combiner is betatron and it is a beta model
I'll wait for the Takara set of The Technobots?
yea that rumor is legit... so not a rumor no more! lol great review tho. long time subscriber x fan, keep it up
I hope reprolables give us a sticker sheet for his combine mode. Betatron looks really boring.
This guy looks WAY too much like SB in all forms imo. Which is doubly bad because some of us have multiples of SB already because Walmart was selling them like they were Skittles. +Of Legend I Am Born I'm weird, i don't like displaying any of my Transformers in alt mode. Maybe that's why i don't mind statues or 3A figures LOL

Is it good? Yes.Is it Scattershot? Nah, nah...
do the recent technobots not come in a box set anymore
what happened to your warbotron combaticons reviews
Can you review Transformers unite Warriors Superion
god, there's almost as many repaints as G1...
Red superion?
ill stick with my maketoys
COMBINE INTO BETATRONUS
Wonder how they'll handle the rest of the Technobots...

Will you come to Botcon this year?
+张骏靓 Yup, i'll be there!
***** awesome!
hope to see u there

+Bits, Bytes, and Disco Knights I got mine from BBTS. Which means it's probably out at retail as well
Just wanted to check. I've been seeing reviews of Scattorshot and Onslaught all over the place, but have yet to see anything in regards to U.S. retail sightings.
Hows the competition coming? Any news? [hint hint]
+Ben Pulham You'll have to be a little more specific than that....which competition are you referring to?
***** Oh, the devastator one. Ya'know, the collection challenge?
Ben Pulham
Oh, well it's still going on. It ends on the 5th, so still over a week left in it
***** Eyed up any possible winners?
;D
Or do I not have clearance to that information?
i have my g1 technobots
