Im an American abroad, and "bopped" around the world for the last 10 years.
I moved to "the wrong" countries, but it has led me to my final country where I feel at home.
So it's part of the journey before you find that one country.
For me, my perfect country is Serbia ❤

Hi Blair! I live in Serbia also. Moved here from Texas. My daughter married a Serb and I moved here to be close to her. My retirement goes far. Great cost of living and very easy to get citizenship. I've been here 2 years now with no regrets. My daughter has been here 3 years. We live near Sid.

How interesting! Why Serbia, may I ask?

Thanks for saying that it could be just the neighborhood and not the entire city/country. Having lived in 4 different states in the U.S., it's important that I live in a building/environment that has modern conveniences in and around it. The culture may be different, but I'll still have the conveniences, i.e., walk to the grocery, safety, elevator building, etc. Love this stuff!

I’m 67 young and next month I’m going to Portugal, Spain and France to check out which one I’d love to move to. Right all three are easily accessible to family in Europe.

I am 65 and doing my due diligence deep dive into becoming an expat. This video has become the top of my list in helping me with deal breakers, expectation boundaries and what daily life could truly look like. Your channel is much appreciated. ❤

I’m a big fan of the whole old school AirBnB experience of staying in the home of someone who’s local. Just got back from a quasi-scouting trip for the far, far future, to Spain. Visited 3 cities where I stayed in someone’s home - the first time I’ve done that as a single woman abroad, but it was great (one host was a young single man, and we completely hit it off). The “worst” experience was one where I only saw my host once, when I first checked in. But even that was great, because I was in a truly “local” area, and I was able to get great recommendations from him. If I ever decide to seriously consider Spain or elsewhere (I now live in Mexico), I’ll take this same approach again.

Thank you so very much for this.. Adalia, you hit a home run with this topic. The addition of the links had me feeling like a child at Christmas. I am super stocked to begin the research . There has always been a part of the world that tugs at my heart. Other areas probably could never capture my attention because of personal reasons and the country and its offerings. You definitely gave me things to further consider. And, I will also be sharing this video with my friend.

Just watched the replay and now I need to go back over my list and add a couple of new ones regarding the topography & needing an address (that pushed Panama low on my list)

Hi…. Great video and thanks for all the info…. Question.. wouldn’t it be a good idea to maybe visit a country first.. if possible before moving there? I mean, in the long run … it could save you more money. I am planning to visit Mexico soon, hope the trip gives me some clarity as far as possibly moving there. Maybe narrow the search to 2-3 different countries and then visit when possible.

    Loved this video, thank you!
I did a scouting trip to a city that ticked off all my boxes. Rented a month-long nonrefundable apartment and... absolutely hated it there. It ended up being the PEOPLE that I despised and their attitudes towards me as a black woman. Spent almost the entire month doing day trips outside the city or staying in and working.
But it ended up being a good (albeit expensive) lesson because it taught me that some of my "nice to haves" were actually "MUST haves", and I reevaluated my list of requirements.
That JUST happened last week, which is what led me to this video.😅 And I'm so glad that you covered this topic, because i was definitely feeling like I'd failed and this video calmed me all the way TF down!
