This video is exhibit one for the wonders of the Internet. Listening to this song is a hoot, but seeing it performed, and watching expressions of these unbelievably fine musicians defies fair description. Pure art in a minute and a half.
Love this! They are having a blast together. Never get tired of watching Lester & Earl. Never be another Earl. His banjo comes to life and is smokin' hot. Thanks for posting this.
LOL-- goodern, Picker. Oddly enough, when Pete Kirby (Bashful Brother Oswald) passed away, himself an accomplished banjo frailer, Earl said that Pete played banjo the way he always wished he could. High praise indeed from the King of the 5-String. I think I know where Earl's coming from. I can do the three finger stuff, nowhere good as Earl, mind you, and I can do a little frailing. But trying to do the drop thumb thing, like Kirby, Stringbean, Grandpa Jones, and even Warren, here, and I'm all thumbs, none being the right one at the right time. Go figure.
I am sorry to rain on the parade, but there's an injustice here. Paul Warren is having so much fun that he should pay us. This has to be one of my favorite music videos ever. But it's not right that they should have more fun than we do. I do think the words country charm, In the poorest and most heartfelt sense of the words, come to mind every time I watch it.
0:15 - 0:18 -- Earl was probably thinking, "Now just what have I gotten myself into?" I think it really struck him as funny to see Paul Warren playing his Granada.
I've never caught Paul Warren sing. It's funny that Earl said it's not Stringbean. Of course that. Buy I now know where The Dillard's got "Bucking Mule" from.
I guarantee you Earl had to retune his banjo after that lol. Paul beat the crap outta that Granada. Paul’s a great musician, good claw hammer player and amazing fiddle player. None like him for sure.
This song sounds like it was modified for the old Trailblazer dog food jingle of the 1970s. "Fine dog food from Martha White" - and sung on radio by Grandpa Jones.
+Andrew Rice Sure looks like it. Same pick marks on the head, and the D tuners. I had no idea Paul was a banjo picker too. Great stuff. I wonder if Earl had to retune the thing after that frailing onslaught. :)
I thought it was a lot of fun. He is a great fiddle player; I'll give you that. For this particular song, that banjo was great! Simple song - - straight forward simple, spirited approach!
@Dareis Nogod Please post a video of yourself playing the banjo so we can all criticize you. Oh, wait, you do not know how to play the banjo? Figures. Another RUclips Expert exposed.
I love how many times Earl laughs/smiles in this one, they sure were having fun
Yep Scruggs was having fun
Best part are the expressions on Earls face. He's having a ball.
Never heard Paul Warren sing, all the time I watched the show he never sang ! what a pleasant surprise!
I'm 75 and still love these guys.
I am older than you and feel the same way. Seems we are always learning about our entertainers as to their huge talents.
I love the moment at 1:18 when they all dip and feel the rhythm of this one. You can tell they were having fun with it!
Earl and Paul are having a grand ol time. Great to watch!!!

i had the pleasure of meeting Paul as a kid waiting to Lester Flatt.
Paul was quite a Gentleman and a WW2 Soldier.
Dang! Paul is kickin' it on the banjo!
Love this! They are having a blast together. Never get tired of watching Lester & Earl. Never be another Earl. His banjo comes to life and is smokin' hot. Thanks for posting this.
Well, that's not Earl on the banjo here--he's playing the guitar. That's Paul Warren on banjo.
lol...paul enjoying the hell out of himself here
This is when music was GOOD, and you didn't need lights and special effects to make your feet move!
I love these guys in 2024
this is just great....heart warming...
These guys just oozed talent, awesome
Never seen that video before....outstanding!
Whodathunkit!! Never had a clue that Paul could do some clawhammer.
"I always wanted to do that."
And play it that good! Didn’t know he could sing that good either!!
I knew he sang bass with Lester and Earl but nothing else. I was as surprised as much as you were!@@michaelbarnett2527
Paul: "I can hardly BELIEVE Earl is letting me play his banjo."
Earl: "I can hardly BELIEVE I'm letting Paul play my banjo!"
haha great!

QZ- A.S.M.R Scot has gone to hell. Nothing decent on.
Ok, thanks spellcheck. Stupid. Read: cmt has gone to hell. Nothing decent on. Have to re read everything these days!!!!
Have to watch reruns of Marty Stuart and catch Leroy Troy.
Checkout the Wayfarers and the Goodbye Girls
@@sherrysetliff2502You must be using Siri! They'd surely fire her if her daddy didn't own the company!
These guys could play anything with strings on it , And that’s real country music
An old time favorite
Really enjoy.
Great clip, pros having a good time,,

Whoa mule whoa
One of my favorite RUclips videos, thanks for posting!
Love this too
So great
Yes, clawhammer can be played on a resonator back.
Case in point: Ralph Stanley
0:15 - 0:18 -- Earl was probably thinking, "Now just what have I gotten myself into?"
I think it really struck him as funny to see Paul Warren playing his Granada.
happy
Lot of talent around that little mic
How many knew Paul Warren spent a few years in a German POW Camp
26 months!
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👈👈👈👈👈👈👀

glorious !! :)
Play that whole album
Love this. Check out the Waryfarers current version. Breakneck bluegrass is my favorite. Check out the Goodbye Girls doing "Pretty little Miss"
Question When did Mr Earl Scuggs switch from playing Guitar most of the time to playing Banjo most of the time?
Whoa Mule Whoa
In this video notice how Earl keeps looking over at his banjo. he looks so concerned about .
I guarantee you Earl had to retune his banjo after that lol. Paul beat the crap outta that Granada. Paul’s a great musician, good claw hammer player and amazing fiddle player. None like him for sure.
❤❤❤❤❤
Playing claw-hammer style on the banjo. Stringbean style!
This guy remind me of Grandpa Jones.
This song sounds like it was modified for the old Trailblazer dog food jingle of the 1970s. "Fine dog food from Martha White" - and sung on radio by Grandpa Jones.
This was 1960 or 1962, and by what your saying, they are using something from the 70’s in the. 60’s
@@northsofa5520Wasn't that "Ole Rattler", used in the dog food spot?
Paul Warren is my boss's cousin
Ive heard some tells about him
is he playing earl's banjo?
+Andrew Rice

yes, paul did play clawhammer banjo, i believe he learned from his dad, who was also a clawhammer player
look at dobro guy's hat
Show me a man with an instrument around his neck, and I'll show you a man who has never hit a lick at a snake.
Blue brass metal
Metal play ki
Sure can sing bass for sure.
👍
Is that earls banjo?
Yeah, that's ol' 9584-3 there.
Makes for decompression. Oh boy thank you
Yes , the music was good and they didnt need lights and special effects.
1:46
This ain't right. Where the hell' is his villion? 😠🤠🎻
Awwww I feel so unnecessary!
Great!
They did it better on The Andy Griffith show
scruggs is right to laugh after that amateurish banjo strumming
He should have stuck with the fiddle. Real basic banjo playing, plus the banjo itself did not sound good being played frailing style.
I thought it was a lot of fun. He is a great fiddle player; I'll give you that. For this particular song, that banjo was great! Simple song - - straight forward simple, spirited approach!
@@chuckkrafft7168 I love how everybody's a critic...
Ain't no two people gonna do it exactly the same!
Sounds great from the perspective of someone who knows nothing about the banjo at least!

I loved it! Yay Paul!
