Hetalia is an anime about history and even though it's not factually correct all the time, It made me interested in history and made me learn more. Cells at work for the future med kids, now Dr. Stone for all those science, chemist, engineer geeks that are important to our world.
      (I know this is like too much but that's what I'm seeing.) Anime also present the "loser" characters and kind of makes them appear like they CAN be MORE. Boku no hero has inspired me to be stronger, which is why I'm currently working out now. You get me right? Anime, if you focus on it, focuses more on inspiring their audiences. @@chocolatarein8940 right? You have to understand every little detail that Senku says if you're actually going to "learn" anything, and be able to recall on that knowledge whenever. I don't count "Spin this, do that, wine to vinegar" as being taught anything... That's just bits of information.
      Saw dust at a concentration of ~45 grams/m^3 suspended in an enclosed space is highly combustible if sufficient oxygen and an ignition source are present. Saw dust is not the only combustible grain, coal, certain metal, flour, and more are combustible but they each require different grams/m^3, as well has having higher and lower limits of combustibility and uncombustibility- that is understanding of this specific topic.
      If instead I say: saw dust is combustible- that is just a bit of information. I didn't teach you anything...
      There's a huge difference between the two examples..
      Senku does explain things too sometimes but in other areas they're just bits of knowledge that combine to make a product in the show. I personally would find Dr. Stone to be way more interesting if Senku wasn't the only highly intelligent person. Maybe Senku is an expert in x while others are experts in y, z, and so on. When it comes to knowledge, science, it's all Senku. He should be an expert in chemistry, and someone be an expert in biology, for example.

    biochem guy here just a some background on myself. I was a medic that specialized in trauma; i have degrees in anthropology, public health, and finishing biochem, and have taken grad courses in emerging diseases, parasitology, and things of that nature. Senku was a chemist prodigy and son of an astronaut, hence why he is god-like at chemistry. There are critiques i have with his success rates in his experiments because he should have a percentage yield of products and not just always get 100%. this is important because the byproducts are often deadly or dangerous, whether it be initially after or later on when stored and oxidized by air (which we can see by the jars he uses for most compounds) I thought I'd help out on this endeavor so I would jot notes down for ya, since so much of this is chemistry, and is definitely more my wheelhouse. actually, closed wine can turn to vinegar as well, primarily because the cork is not perfect, which is why 20-30 years, you can absolutely get vinegar wine. It will taste more different because of the trace amounts of air that seep through over decades (I've had this, and it's solid for cooking, though not what you'd expect). so para-acetamidobenzenesulfonyl chloride this would possibly be the correct outcome, though you would definitely have a decent amount of byproducts that vary here if you get too hot. Also, the chlorine may break off to elements more favorable here which then further varies the intermediates and products. in regards to the use of sulfa drugs, using this is a great initial use because it's not always about getting "more powerful" antibiotics. this is because any antibiotics risk killing biotic organisms that help your body as well. Without being too specific there are also various methods of how certain antibiotics respond to biotic organisms, which then means that some work better for things like gram negative/positive bacteria, different shapes, etc. There's always a tradeoff, so it's not as clear cut as saying "use a better or worse antibiotic. With Pneumonia, there are various types. most commonly there's community acquired pneumonia. then within that, there's viral and bacterial, so sometimes antibiotics still do nothing. This knowledge came with a price because both can create the same response and further confuse the medical world until we had the technology and know-how to identify which was which via various methods. I personally love this show for it's rigorous research it's done as well as the level of detail they go into. Depending on how much you've overed into materials courses or inorganic chem, you should look at the hydroelectric creation he made as well as creation of tungsten alloy.

      Microbiologist here with a background in biochemistry. I'm willing to give Senku the benefit of the doubt regarding all the byproducts that should have formed from the ochem reactions because frankly no other show would have even put in the effort to show the steps. The scene was accurate enough but not overwhelmingly detailed to lose everyone who was watching. If Senku actually had to put in the effort to purify products, that'd be both tedious and boring becauss 90% of the time will just be spent purifying the target molecule. Regarding pneumonia, I feel like Senku really jumped the shark here. He made an antibiotic before he even knew that pneumococcus was responsible for the disease. It would have been really bad if it turned out to be a viral infection lol

      Senku would tell you that photographic memory doesn't exist, or at least has not been proven.
      Instead, he repeats each lesson in his mind to ad nauseam... to an extent that would drive any sane man to death.
      And to be fair.... Senku is knowledgeable and very capable... but he is a ways away from an engineer. He had to learn the hard way on how to actually apply his knowledge and sometimes fails the first few times.

    • @spin.chicken
      @spin.chicken 4 года назад +2

      @@MrMeow-iq7kq what? Why would Senku do that? It certainly has been proven that photographic memory exists, and there are also people in the world that have perfect memory which means they remember every little detail of everything they see, experience, hear, smell and so on. They can recount the exact seconds of each day.
      Also, just because someone is an engineer doesn't mean they will be perfect at every project... Engineers, ALL THE TIME, will mess up on their projects when working on something new. Everything is trial and error unless there's a schematic for said project, then the engineers will roll right through it in many cases. It also matters how many times the engineer has done said project.
      In summary:
      Photographic memory exists- and Senku would definitely have it, or perfect memory, because it would be impossible for someone to remember as much stuff he has at his age. He knows pretty much everything, and that would be impossible to achieve without the help of photographic/perfect memory. There's no objection to this, it is true.
      Senku is not a ways away from being an engineer. His trial and error is not indicative of not being an engineer. Engineers fail all the time even in the highest echelons of talent. Senku is certainly an engineer, because he engineers things- that is all that's required really.
      Stop being an idiot.

    • @MrMeow-iq7kq
      @MrMeow-iq7kq 4 года назад +5

      If it does exist, we can at least agree that yea... this crazy man Senku would likely have it.
      As to Senku being an engineer, I never implied it was a bad thing. Many of the things he was doing he was doing for the first time- just going off his knowledge of the concepts so it makes sense that he struggled a bit on a few things. just a little point, if you shake a can of coke, the gushing doesn't come from increased preasure in the can, since the preasure stays mostly the same (except for the slight preasure increase due to increased heat produced by the shaking, but that amount is super small). The increased gushing comes from the increased surface between fluid and gas which comes from all the tiny bubbles in the coke which in term come from the shaking. So there is more surface where the CO2 can leave the liquid --> more gushing

    so idk if anyone cares but what he's talking about at 4:40 is the synthesis for sulfa drug. Its actually one of the coolest syntheses, because it demonstrates some of the major organic breakthroughs. When he reacts chlorosulfonic acid with acetanilide, the amide group on the acetanilide is an ortho/para director, meaning that for electrophilic aromatic substitution, the sulfonyl chloride group is going to be attatched to either the ortho or para position (ortho being next to and para being across from). However, since the amide group on acetanilide is so physically bulky, the sulfonyl chloride group is favorable to attatch to the para position (about 10% ortho and 90% para). The product from this reaction is the para-acetamidosulfonyl chloride, which is where the "p" comes from.
    The really cool part about what he's showing off is that making this medicine is INCREDIBLY easy when you have a basic understanding of chemistry, and honestly apart from acetylsalicylic acid, is probably one of the easiest medicines for anyone to make at home / in a laboratory. Really cool stuff.

    Actually shaking a can of soda while its sealed does not increase pressure, its in a state of equilibrium. What it instead does is mix the already existing air in the can into the liquid as small bubbles which will attach to the sides of the can. Those pockets of air become catalyst like points where CO2 can escape once the can's seal has been broken/opened. If you ever shake a can you can mitigate the effects by lightly tapping on the sides to release the bubbles of air back to the top, reducing the catalytic points of depressurized expansion.

    Senku's adoptive father was an astronaut, and his life goal was to go to space himself, so he studied just about every field of science and engineering he could for over 10 years (from when he was in pre-school to the point where he was petrified in high school, I think he was 16 or so at the time.) He succeeded in making a rocket that reached the edge of space when he was like what, 15? and he even found a way to turn plastic bottle caps into gasoline. Later in the manga we found out he was actually consulting NASA scientists about rocketry so he had REAL information. From this we can conclude that Senku must have had quite a bit of knowledge of engineering and chemistry, combined with his virtually perfect memory (such as keeping track of 3700 years by literally counting the passing seconds) and we have one of my favorite shonen protagonists since...well ever really...
    As for using sulfonamides to cure pneumococcal pneumonia, I'm guessing it was a pretty crude antibiotic, but since this bacteria was 3700 years separated from modern medicine it more than likely was much weaker than modern day infectious bacteria that has evolved resistance to medicines we've developed, Senku DID toy with the idea of finding some penicillin mold to make an antibiotic, but admitted it would have been even more difficult, maybe even impossible, to find the right strain of mold to refine...although much later in the manga they would start making bread, I wonder if they could put some of that out and grow the right mold that way...

    The drug works not by killing the bacteria, but by making it so that the bacteria cannot reproduce. This allows your body's natural immune system to take over and wipe out aggressive colonies of bacteria. So, yes. In Ruri's case, this would 100% work! :)

Albert Einstein is his idol since elementary and helped his foster father swim making some machine he made as a child and attaching it on his dad to teach his dad to swim, which helped his dad pass the physical test to go into space because swimming was part of the test and his dad couldn't swim. So, Senku's like this since he was little and wondered why the moon follows him. Where the class was learning alphabet and numbers, Senku's reading books on Albert Einstein and science. When he turned into stone, he was still a student at high school and in the middle of a science experiment turning plastic caps into gasoline. What you said about the sulfa drug is partly right. It is also used as an antibiotic but it doesn't KILL the bacteria, it just halts the spread of the bacteria. So it could be used but it would halt the spread and your body would do the rest. Also it has bad side effects, I watched another Pharmecutical expert explain that the sulfa drug was the best decision to make as that is their best chance to get an antibiotic
