Thanks for the shoutout and reaction! Means a TON to me. I grew up watching your videos so it's an amazing experience/honor to be creating content alongside you. Plus, that was super kind of you to even add my channel and video to your end credits. Tbh I didn't even know that was possible but I'll 100% be applying that to my own videos whenever I reference you or other creators in the future
Some notes I've made throughout your reaction:
- I definitely thought my video had more weight to it at the time of editing. However, in hindsight, my primary complaints regarding the bundles relate closer to 'manipulation' more than a 'scam.' I've since renamed the video because there are absolutely other things in GGE that I'd consider to be closer to a scam than these bundles. So it's probably better I save that title for another time LOL
P.S. I could ramble on for hours about when GGE was updating the PO of decorations. Starting with the original meta of 1,000 PO with The Once and Future Kings, then the incremental changes to the weekly shop offers that gradually increased by ~500 PO until finally teetering out around 4,000 PO
- I liked your inclusion of accountability because there's absolutely a level of accountability that fall onto whoever decides to drop $880 on a bundle within a browser game
- The issue of psychological manipulation in video games isn't unique to GGE. It's become an industry standard at this point where companies place imaginary values and percentages on bundles, deals, sales, etc. It just hurts more when it becomes increasingly more transparent within the game you love LOL. Rather than ramp up or innovate their marketing strategies, GGS would rather focus on $880 bundles to combat chargebacks and increase the perceived value of of cheaper bundles
Loved the video. I think there's more room for discussion on the best monetization practices GGE SHOULD be taking. Perhaps that's a conversation for a video sometime in the future

I think the biggest scams are the Beyond the Horizon and Outer Realms (especially heritage hunter) event. Your end-game castle progression is basically locked behind the most outrageously pay to win events imaginable. No-one would ever play either of those as free to play if they didn't lock so much staff behind them.
I got a lot of heritage from hitting GGS employees from Germany 1. They deliberately gave me some of their points because they knew that i have clearly spent a lot of money on the event

The fact that this kind of game has any sort of monetization that charges you over $100 is absolutely insane
Monetization amount doesn't matter when there's no limit. There are games where the most expensive packages are $100 but whales buy many of them anyways, so why not just be honest and put an $800 deal in there?

My thought is it’s at marketing tactic in the sense that if I’m charging $800 for a product and you see the 50 to hundred dollar option next to it you’ll think the hundred dollar options is a bargain so you’re more likely to click on that that’s my thinking on why this is even an offer in the first place
For example, on the INT1 server, there are two players who buy everything and spend more than those 800 dollars, but then harass the other players to the point that they give up the game, and those other players also buy but not in that amount, so I think that GGE only created a problem because of two players, maybe 150 players will quit the game
Just coming back to your channel after a few years I think. My biggest issue with good game Empire is that I would not play for months at a time due to college or military service and I would come back in my entire would be wiped because I guess inactive. I’m writing this comment before I watch the video so this might be something you address however, if it does not in the video that is my biggest pet peeve.
In recent years, Goodgame Studios has changed things so that players will not have their castles deleted if they've ever bought rubies!

I just have a video suggestion for you! I’d love if you talked about the server wars that happened. this game brings back many great memories whenever I think back to when I played it, but I’d love for you to maybe do some research by reaching out to contacts that you might know of to help piece together exactly what happened at that time.
I remember a lot of wild things about it like how it leaked into other servers, there was a 2nd server wars and there just being so many correlations to the start of WW1. I found it ironic, we just repeated history in that game!
You're not alone with this feedback, so at some point I'll likely try to make that happen. Different people have surprisingly different recollections of the server war, and of course there was no official documentation, so the topic strikes me as a bit difficult to get right!

Those Celestial troops and 34k PO items really make me glad I did nuke the account so I didn't return.
Moved to OSRS to sink time instead, much better not being pressured into buying anything at all apart from the monthly sub.
I forgot to mention this in the video but I think this is the other aspect of the $880 offers that Goodgame Studios is to blame for. Even just seeing them in the shop is a major deterrent for any new or potentially returning players (or even existing, active players, to be honest). Hope you're doing well!
What really did it for me was them removing ways for f2p to stand any chance against whales. Removing Toolburning
GGE Is also a game that you never feel particularly good buying something in. Like, Alright I spent 100$ what do I get. Some maybe slightly better BRs and a bit more food production. Rad.
Certainly some people exist with far more resources that don't care as much about some money, but it is definitely a constant pressure to buy. And not a good feeling when you do.
But I am doing absolutely fantastically, hope you're doing just as well!

the whole shop is like this. there are bundles that cost the same but 1 would have everythinf thag the 2nd has and more. its very disgusting.
and to say its the players responsibility to scout the best deals, i hear u, but the shop is made to be inconvenient to scroll on purpose.

Those offers and prizes exist only because there are players that buy them, people like to forget about that and instead just try to find blame with the developer. Any reasonable person would find the shop offers ridiculous and completely overpriced regardless. GGE is a game for whales and with every year that should just become more obvious. And are they manipulating you? Go read a book on human psychology, then you have your answer
there will always be people who buy them, human nature and all that. gambling is fun, if you add a gambling mechanic there will be gamblers. i'd definitely blame the developer for that one
