I actually needed this video. I was just telling my fiance how I feel bad because everytime my family asks me for money i give to them. Over 30k in the last two years. I havemt been able to save for my own life and future because i felt obligated to help my family. And now that im getting out of the military my job security is gone and what time I should've been using to save money ive given to my family. I told them no for the first time in years and I just feel terrible about it. But its time i started looking out for myself and the future I'm trying to build. Thank you for those words at the end.
Amen, there is nothing with looking out for yourself and making sure you are taken care of. I recently got out of the military and have been struggling heavily (homelessness) because I was not wise with my money. Take it from me, you can't help others if you are not first helping yourself. I pray your transition is well, and that God covers and blesses you.
I can totally relate to what you are saying as I have lived that life for so many years. Saying no is was so hard, that you even feel guilty for saying it. Thank you for this comment this is another confirmation that I've received in the last 3 days I'm in this situation now with a friend who has been living with me for the past 15 months. I've encouraged, motivated, loan finances to them, fed, sheltered, and then and their 4 grandchildren in a 1 bedroom apartment. Nothing had been going as planned, and Sunday I made the decision to choose me. So I'm with financial advisor & gearing myself back up for school this October. Thank you again for your comment.❤❤❤
You can't pour from an empty cup, period. Hopefully your fiance was warning you against what you've been doing to keep you out of financial trouble, because no one appreciates their intended being taken advantage of, and that includes from family. This is exactly why you're told to secure your own mask FIRST in the event of an emergency, otherwise everyone suffers. You're not obligated to be ANYONE'S retirement, failsafe, security blanket, safety net, etc., unless that's what you choose to be. Your family could've gone to the military like you did; they didn't. They could've become a Dr./lawyer/engineer, etc.; maybe they're not that dedicated to school. They could've at least read up on or taken a free course on money management, but why, when they have your cash reserves to readily fall back on? Taking care of self requires selfishness, and it's not a bad word except to people who have a vested interest in USING you. Not saving for your own retirement is unacceptable, especially when you know that no one in your family will ever be giving any of the money you sacrificed to them back to you. If you know your soft heart will thwart your good financial sense (especially in this economy!), have a large chunk of your money go into a fund that you can't pull from without penalty, or decide with your fiance on a predetermined monthly amount for family, but it can only go to one individual, individual family, or family event...everybody else in need is sol until the following month. Self preservation in self care is absolutely necessary, and you have to choose whether or not your livelihood (marriage? parenthood?) is more or less important than the one they're living off your back. #NORMALIZESAYINGNO #SELFCARE #BESTLIFE ❤

I’ve realized myself that giving yourself BOUNDARIES in protection of YOURSELF, and then being ok with, is one of the things necessary in self-care. It’s like putting a fence up around yourself… you can sense and kinda see what’s on the other side and thus you can decide what comes thru and what doesn’t.

I agree with one of the other comments…. I like provolone and Gouda might be good… PS. As the oldest girl but middle child as well. Spent my whole life pleasing. About 45 I realized how bitter I was because I always said yes but resented most of it. I am 56 now and when I started saying no, I was free. The downside? Most of those I thought were friends are long gone. Even some family never call anymore. Guess what? It’s ALL good!!! I do what I want to now. Kids are grown, hubby left after almost 30 years now for greener pastures so I answer to only one. Jesus!!! Other than that? It’s just what I want..😂😂😂❤❤❤❤

I feel more secure with myself in my 40s. I love French Bread Pizza! I was feeling icky and I took this detox called The Cleaner the women’s formula, then started fasting recently one day a week for 24 hours and eventually I want to build up to 36 hours. It brings so much clarity to me. While fasting I drink lots of water and hot tea with no sweeteners. I just wanted to share that.

Amen my friend, as I got older I realized I can’t be everything to everyone. I had to make time for me and those close to me. I was running ragged, pushed to the limit and burning my candle at both ends. Covid nursing was the last straw. I had never been through anything like that in my 20+ years of nursing. It broke me and made me realize, you only live once. Live for you and those you love, your spouse, parents and children. Take care Miriam. We only get one life, live it to the fullest. Believe in Gods plan, he will bless you!
