Interpreting a Moderate to Considerable Avalanche Forecast

The moderate to considerable forecast is often when riders elect to travel in avalanche terrain, despite the forecasted possibilities and probabilities of avalanche involvement. A Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) forecaster will help participants understand the difference between “possible” and “likely,” triggering an avalanche and being exposed to natural avalanches, and how to minimize the feeling that travelers are “gambling” on the best outcome.
