I love that RUclips recommended this to me! I'm also into fountain pens, but I'm on a very small budget. My experience is the same as yours - right down to the specific manufacturers. I love my Jinhaos and have quite a collection. My favorite pen to date was my birthday gift this year - Hongdian N23 Year of the Rabbit in . I've tried quite a few inks in it and it's fantastic with all of them. I think it could be my one and only fountain pen, if I ever had to pare down my collection.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! This was so encouraging to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I love the Hongdian pens. Such awesome writers and really good quality. 😊
Thanks for sharing. There are many low budget pens out there that are absolutely worth trying out, I think. Personally I love Majohn or Moonman as they used to be called - the A1 Press is a really good copy of the Pilot Vanishing Point. It doesn’t have a gold nib, but it writes very smoothly and the retractable nib is just a cool detail I really enjoy. I have the VP as well and can compare them directly and they are both very nice writers. Also the Jinhao 82 as you mentioned is in my collection and I like that you can just get a bunch of them and mix the caps and finials and create your own pen that way. It‘s a fun pen to test out inks and play with. I have a few Sailors as well and I do admit that I love them more, but that‘s mainly because the gold nib makes a big difference in this case in my opinion. I find buying pens second hand can be an option if you want to save a little money, most of all with the higher end pens. But other than that, I also love my Kawecos and TWSBI‘s and Lamys quite a lot. :)
Thank you for your comment! I have limited myself for right now because I know the second I get a higher-end pen in my hand, I will want another, lol. Fountain pens are so addicting. I love to see people mix the Jinhao 82 caps, barrels, etc. So fun. I definitely want to try vintage pens as well. I love the idea of a pen having multiple lives.
Lovely pens-- I enjoyed looking at your collection. Esterbrook pens are lovely writers, but they can be scratchy too. I have high end pens but I find myself reaching for my hongdians a lot too.
Oh wow, that is so cool to know. The Hongdians are a great pen. Very unique. I love the look of the Esterbrooks 🤤 I am hoping to get to the DC Pen Show next year and try out all of the pens like a crazy woman.
Love pen collection videos! You have a nice classy looking bunch of pens! My favourite budget pens are jinhaos, particularly the swan model has written so well for me and was the cheapest coming in at a dollar lol...although they look a bit childish, so not for everyone. I really want to try the pilot kakuno. Everyone says that is a great starter pen. I have quite a few more expensive pens on my want list ... really hoping I can get a benu this year.
Thank you 💕 I love my Jinhaos. They are consistent, reliable writers for a reasonable price. I think you can get whichever pens you like and within your budget. Good for you for expanding your collection your way. Thank you for watching. I hope all your 2024 pen dreams come true! ✒️💖
I purchased a yongshen 699 on Amazon and it is a dip of the pilot 823 vacuumed filler and I really like it. It of course doesn’t have the gold nib but it was $30 and the size is great. What I love about the affordable pens too is that since I don’t have a way to physically try pens out I can try different sizes and not break the bank trying to find a pen I like.
Yes! Same. I can not afford a $150+ trial run. Until I can get to try pens in person (and my budget allows for it), it's budget pens for me all the way! I love my pens anyway, so it all works out. I'll have to try the brand you mentioned. Thanks for watching 😊
I have loved the Jinhao 82 and they write so well for me too. The Peacock pen is gorgeous, it's such a sweet and thoughtful gift! Overall I have used the TWSBI Eco pen the most
Yes! I though it was such a sweet gift. btw, you may not have seen my plan with me, but you were the winner of the giveaway. Can you send me an email? If you want to see what I'll be sending, and for more information, check out that plan with me video.
Aww, thank you! 😊 I hope you find some pens you really love. I find it to be a beautiful way to slow down and connect more with my writing, but wow, some of these gorgeous pens come with a hefty price tag. It can make it seem like an inaccessible hobby, but it shouldn't be. For beginner inks, I think Waterman, if you want a lower price, commercial, reliable brand. But....if you really want to try some lovely colors without breaking the bank and still have the benefits of really stable, quality inks, Diamine would be my personal recommendation. I'm by no means an expert, but I think they are great.

Hi. I have the same exact ink in the same exact kweco!! Medium nib. It’s perfect for me!
That is good to know! I won't give up on it 😀
Ive been wanting to try fountain pens and this video is so wonderfully informative!! Are there any inks you'd recommend for beginners?
