I’m a college professor in scenic design and have been teaching my students SketchUp and Vectorworks for years, but as our budgets are being cut Trimble and VW keep raising their prices. Seems like Blender is SO CLOSE to being able to take their place but what’s missing is a “Layout” style output for 2D drafting. I’m award of the Maker Tales add-ons and MesureIt CAD Transforms etc. The issue isn’t getting precision in the viewport its getting it onto paper. Is there an add on available that allows for section cuts of a 3D model to easily be exported to a 2D drawings where scale dimension lines, call outs, title blocks etc can produce an actual plate of drafting? I’m so eager to cut the cords with my current tools. Thanks
Hi, there is a tool for Blender called Home Builder. The creator (Andrew Peel) has revamped it completely so it can be used more easily, but it is still in beta stages. You can contact him and see if you can get those features implemented.
Thanks for the awesome updates! I wanted to add a suggestion, I recently have been reminded of a feature in 3DS Max that you can scale your textures based on real world units. So a 2K image can be sized as 8 feet by 8 feet and it would accurately reflect that on your model. I don't think there are any addons that can do anything similar with blender but how would you go about making your images look like the correct scale? Or is that something you just need time and experience in? I struggle with UV unwrapping especially with more complex shapes for my archviz renderings. And after working with Revit a lot for my job I just wish Blender had a feature like autodesk does for their material sizing.
Glad it help mate! There might be an add-on to do that However I don't know any free ones. For me with re-sizing any UV texture I usually use a reference to the thing I make and re-scale it to fit. Again you can look around for some helping tool in this matter there should be some paid ones. The UV Process is a bit confusing but with time I think you will get a sense of what looks right when you scale things around.
