Well I just finished this bag and I have to say, I love it!!! I made it for my cousin. But I enjoyed the experience. I had to watch your video about 5 times. Lol. But Jess, I love the way you explain the details of making whatever you do. Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without your help. You’re my favorite to watch and I just want to say thank you for all the helpful vids and tutorials you do.
I owe a neighbor lady a purse or bag… by firming up the sides and bottom with heavy stabilizer then quilt a diamond pattern on all sides and bottom. Add a zippered pocket and an eyeglass holder to the inside…walla a special bag for a special neighbor!
My poor little Brother CS6000i struggled with those D ring connectors and that bulky seam lol! I'm going to have to remember to skip that step next time or use a different machine. Bless it's heart! XD
Hi Jess….one callout on this bag…step 4 and 5 in the pattern aren’t right…the pattern calls to sew the exterior pocket pieces’ long edges together (step 4) and add the zipper afterwards (step 5). (Unless I’m reading it wrong?) I did step 4 and was confused so I pulled up your video and of course, you did it correctly. Just a PSA for anyone else. ATJ….Always Trust Jess. Love your videos, please keep ‘em coming!!!!
Hi, perfect timing for this, I emailed you about starter cross body bag. Looking forward to making this for my self. Don't sew much for my self but it is time, thanks Laurie
I've been eyeing Buddy by Sallie Tomato. I would love to see that pattern show up in a box along with a dog walking bag to hold some treats. This pattern here actually looks like the smaller size could be turned into a cute dog walking bag.
That’s super cute! Can you do a video on the smaller version too? It would be awesome to see since I’m more of visual learner than a reader. If not it’s totally fine! I know you’re super busy! Love watching your videos! I make the Hipster Fanny bag one from you all the time!
I am SO excited to make this... omg! Doing the big one first like the tutorial and then the small one with some... I'm thinking vinyl maybe? Wonder how hard it'd be to get this done with vinyl.
I love your videos! If you could pick one machine just for making bags, which one would it be? I have a Pfaff 720 that I like for garments and light materials, but I don’t love how it stitches on bags so I’m thinking of getting a second machine specifically for bags. Any advice is appreciated!
Jess I am not able to download the make a strap pattern. Is it suppose to be part of the mystery monthly project or do we have to purchase separately? By the way love the bag and can’t wait to make mine.
I just bought this pattern, so I'm grateful for the tutorial. I like the sizes and pockets, but the lining to me seems very loose and might get caught in the zipper. I couldn't see the inside that well, but I may regret having bought this pattern. I'll make one and see.
Can you please make the christine sling by love you sew I want to make this bag so bad but don't feel comfortable with out a video to follow along with. Thanks bunches! I just love you and your videos. You have no idea how much you help me with bag making! Xx
I think the large (or maybe even a tad enlarged) would be a fantastic diaper bag. The nurse I see for my monthly dr appts (monthly for Many years) is expecting her 1st baby. I've been trying to decide what to make for her and I think I might do this and use some hoarded pre-order pokemon cotton canvas I've had in my stash several years. Just would need to add foldover elastic bands and large elastic/channel gathered pockets from coordinated fabric. Then it can hold anything an infant then toddler can throw at it and dad won't mind carrying it either 😂I even have a small panel of pikachu I can use for the front pocket I just now thought of white writing this 😂😂
A few friends of mine and I have recently taken up Frisbee Golf. This looks to be about the right size to fit the frisbees. With some minor modifications this might make a great frisbee golf bag. If I made an additional waist strap that hooked into the shoulder strap loops that would keep it from flopping around when throwing. Would it be hard to add internal dividers in the bag? Do you have any other bag tutorials that have internal dividers?
I made the smaller version and had lots of extra cork so I used it for the front and back pockets instead of the canvas . Turned out so cute!! I do not have the link for the make a strap either ?
Jess I don’t know if I’ve missed it but have to ever used a nylon headed hammer to flatten seams to make them less bulky and if you have did it not help? I’ve done it on my leather jackets and it’s made a significant difference but it may not in your materials.
I wonder if you could make this (or in fact any) bag with smaller boxed corners at the top? I love the look of it but would prefer not so wide at the top...
I made the larger size and I hate that I did not top stitch the lining along the zipper edge. I'm making the smaller size now and I will be top stitching along that edge. We'll see how this turns out, literally. Also, I might attempt at making the front pockets be slip pockets with also a zipper pocket. since there is two sides to the pocket anyways. I will report back. also also, I will be making and using thicker d ring straps because I feel the d rings straps are not substantial enough for at least the size of the larger bag. just my gripes and opinons.
How do I choose a rivet machine? Is there a grommet/rivet combo machine? I need to repair crossbody straps on 3 purses and want to rivit the straps. Can you help or recommend ? I will not use this machine very often so it needs to be budget friendly. Thanks
My only comment is a request…if we already own the pattern in the monthly mystery box, I would love it if we could use the @sallietomato coupon for a pattern we don’t already own. 🤔😊
i am just starting this bag, and bought the pattern, after watching twice and reading the instructions it seems there are no instructions on how to finish the outside pocket edges? can you help
Just purchased this cute pattern, but am i missing something? There are no pattern pieces. It looks like i am to cut all pieces by measurement, is this right? Love the tutorial thank you Jess!
The bag is cute, however I did not complete the straps because there is no piece D pattern for the strap connectors. Can you email or send the pattern?
I don’t see the pattern piece to attach the strap, am I missing something? I think you said it was pattern piece D but I don’t see one that looks like that. 😕
Hello I belong to your bag of the month club. I am a little behind on making them. I am at The Stuart bag. I did not get anything in box that gives me measurements. Can you help me out? I don’t want to put my address in here. I’m assuming since I belong to the club and I received things you will have that I hope you can help me. Thank you.
I hear you. I spent DAYS with my mom, teaching her how to do it. Every tool and method just didn’t work for her. But after helping (and some silly sound effects) she’s finally got the hang of it. Just takes a lot of practice
I thought my bad was a hot mess until I turned it right side out. It turned out really cute! I am glad I finished it.

Thanks for this video. I referred to it several times while sewing a small Stewart.

Having made this bag I wish I would of done all the improvements you mentioned, it would greatly improve it!! Great ideas!!
Perfect mother's day gift 🤔🤩
After watching this I had to buy the pattern .... and I have now made one! Love the video Jess thank you!
I love watching your channel you make the best stuff and your attention to detail is wonderful.
This bag is SO cute!! I love that strap, and since pink is my favorite color, I’m especially excited to make this month’s box. 🤗 🎉

That bag is too cute!
Yes! A new purse!
Ooooo this quilted would look amazing!
Yes!!!! Oh yea, quilted would be next level
This bag would make a great packing cube in ripstop quilt cotton!
Thanks so much for the tutorial Jess, I just purchased the pattern.
Brilliant tutorial amd I love that bag design, defo on my list. You done a great job 👏🏼 😊
Wuhu judt signed up for the monthly box starting with this box🙏 so excited

Great tutorial. I think I might get that patter.
I was so excited to get my box this month. Can’t wait to make it. Will probably make the small size
Woot woot! The small size really is wonderful
Just got my kit…looking forward to making it❤️
Love this bag I bought the kit but I’m debating switching out the strap with a black and white only strap same weave look and then add purse feet
I would love to see you work on the Magnolia bag by Sallie Tomato. Thanks ❤
Love your videos!!
Good morning from Lehigh Acres Florida
Beautiful!!
I am SO excited to make this... omg! Doing the big one first like the tutorial and then the small one with some... I'm thinking vinyl maybe? Wonder how hard it'd be to get this done with vinyl.
Got my mystery box and downloaded the bag pattern but I don't see how I can get the make a strap pattern. thanks for any help with this.
Let me check with Sallie Tomato, but I do believe the pattern is included with the bag this month (might have just forgotten to add a link)

Darn, wish I hadn’t opened this. Have to go to work so have to save and come back later
😊

I believe so. Send an email to Sallie tomato and they show help get this squared away.
I just bought this pattern, so I'm grateful for the tutorial. I like the sizes and pockets, but the lining to me seems very loose and might get caught in the zipper. I couldn't see the inside that well, but I may regret having bought this pattern. I'll make one and see.
Can you please make the
christine sling by love you sew

I second this!!

I love that idea! The large is definitely a good size

Great bag and tutorial, I wish though, that the pattern for the special strap would have been included ☹️
The front pocket would be awesome if that was a removable pouch , that could be used as a smaller clutch or similar.
Did I miss something- what about the raw edges on the outside pockets?
I made the larger size and I hate that I did not top stitch the lining along the zipper edge. I'm making the smaller size now and I will be top stitching along that edge. Would it work to use cork fabric for both the main body and the pocket?
Do you have links for the fabric used on the small version of this bag?!
I am hoping sometime you will do the Mav pack. Lol
I found sewing the lining boxed corners first was easier. They have minimal bulk so they were not in the way when sewing the exteriors boxed corners.
yes! I did this too. It was so much easier and less stressful when finishing up the bag.
How did you get the zipper closed with pull in the center after adding the pull? Zip closed on each side
My only comment is a request…if we already own the pattern in the monthly mystery box, I would love it if we could use the @sallietomato coupon for a pattern we don’t already own. 🤔😊
I like that idea!! I will pass it along
I need some help!! I’m trying to buy the pattern and I can’t!!! Help please!!!
i am just starting this bag, and bought the pattern, after watching twice and reading the instructions it seems there are no instructions on how to finish the outside pocket edges? can you help
What are the rivets that called that you clip together without using a press
So, to get the purses, we order the mystery box or the bag one? I just don't want to order the wrong one.
Is it possible to do Linds H2O to Go water holder in the monthly box?
Just purchased this cute pattern, but am i missing something? There are no pattern pieces. It looks like i am to cut all pieces by measurement, is this right? Love the tutorial thank you Jess!
Yes, this bag is made from rectangles, so it looks like the pattern opted for measurements instead of pattern pieces
The bag is cute, however I did not complete the straps because there is no piece D pattern for the strap connectors. Can you email or send the pattern?
I just got the kit and I think they shorted me foam. Is the foam really necessary?.
Is it possible to get this bag mystery box still ?
I've been trying to purchase this on Sallie Tomato but it wasn't going through with using PayPal?
So C U T E ! ! ! 😍
Any discount or coupon for the bag pattern?
I have both patterns. However, the Make Strap only has piece A. There is no piece D that you refer to. Help.
I don’t see the pattern piece to attach the strap, am I missing something? I think you said it was pattern piece D but I don’t see one that looks like that. 😕
I don't understand I have just purchased the pattern PDF and there are no pattern pieces.......
Great bag. And Jess, no one wants a saggy bottom 🤣 (9:30)

Easily done as a bound lining, yes?
You would have to adjust the boxing just a bit, but I think you could use binding for this
Where did you get your webbing from?
It’s from Sallie Tomato, but doesn’t look like it’s on their site yet
I am still on the struggle bus with getting zipper pulls on the zipper tape. So frustrating
Search on RUclips. That’s how I learned how to
