    Good see you riding again, and love your ramblings 😂. I never got to thank you, but because of your videos and easy riding you do, it inspired me as a 45yr old never ridden a dirt bike in life, go through MSF last summer and bought my first bike, used C50, but even in 30 Kansas if no wind I still get it out, dress up enough to go out for 30 to 45 mins ride out in the country and live it. For that, thank you so much!

    Nice video. I have a 2018 107 Heritage Softail Classic in Vivid Black. I've done some modifications (stage II for more torque) to mine and added some accessories (tour pack, engine and saddlebag guards, passenger foot boards, LED lights all around, different style handgrips, coil cover, etc.). I love the bike! My wife rides with me the majority of the time, and she enjoys the ride. If you have a passenger, I'd suggest getting a thicker passenger seat. H.D. sells the same studded style seat but more thicker than the stock one. All in all, I think I made the right choice in choosing this bike over the other models. The ride is comfortable and maneuvers very well. I highly recommended it! For an old disabled veteran such as myself, this bike fits me like a glove--lightweight and easy to handle.

    Good to see you out and about. I got mine out for a few hours on New Year's Day, but haven't ridden a bit since. Weekends have been bad weather-wise. I wish I could have joined y'all back in October, hopefully we can put something together this Spring. The Mrs and I are going up to ride in Wisconsin this summer, but we'll probably trailer the bike up there. You'll like the heated grips, I've noticed that on mine, my hands are out of the wind more than on the old 2007, and the heated grips are much more effective. Ride safe.

    Hi GA. Love your vids your chats and philosophies on things. I agree the Heritage is a good all rounder. I have the 2016 model 103, sameas you hired in Hawaii a few years ago. I know there's been some upgrades with the M8 but mine will suit me fine for a long time and being just a couple of years older than you probably see me out. Ive had many bikes including several Harleys and an Electra Glide Ultra for 5 years. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't go back. Really find the Heritage just as comfortable on even a week ride which I'm off on again soon. I have to smile at the people who insist a "touring model" is sooooo much better or even essential when I grew up touring on old BSAs and AJS etc. The H is heaven compared and my touring consists of as many road variations as Ican find, so the H is a great compromise between a bit lighter as you say but still with some weight for comfort and big twin. Anyway look forward to your next one. Stay safe and happy. God bless. Pete.... Tasmania, Australia.

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  2 года назад +1

      I totally agree on your point about people insisting on the big touring models. They certainly have their place especially for two up riding, but my Heritage is more than enough for me and very comfortable on long rides. I remember when a 750 cc bike was considered huge. Back in the 70’s I had a Honda CB350 that I loved and wish I still had. It was a rocket in my mind! Thanks for watching and a trip to Australia for some of your great motorcycle roads is on my list of first things I want to do when retire. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.

As far as touring, the Heritage will work for me the same as you, weekend getaways and not much more. I'm ok with the bags so far. There's an old saying; "Travel light and you travel right!" Have you seen the 2022 Heritage? Available now with cast wheels, which I prefer to spokes because you can be tubeless and have a chance to fix a flat with a patch. Not so with tubed spoke wheels. Harley says the spoke wheels are a $400.00 upgrade for 2022. Maybe I can find someone with a 2022 with cast wheels that will swap wheels with me. Anyway, still hitting the parking lot but it's been a while. Like you, weather and life. You're rockin' a new helmet, are you not?

    Great video GARM. I will say, here in eastern Canada, even though we may not do long haul touring, the touring bikes like the Ultra I have, provides the wind protection in our colder climate. I love the Heritage, but that would be it's only downfall, even with a windshield.
    So the touring bikes provides the best of both worlds.

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  2 года назад +1

      The wind protection in a bike with just a windshield like the Heritage or Road King is definitely less than the touring bikes with a fairing. That’s why I just installed heated grips on my Heritage. In cold weather, my hands are directly in the wind and freeze pretty quickly. A fairing would help with that. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe in beautiful eastern Canada. Look out for those truck convoys!

  • @rodneybarcus2233

    Hello sir good to see back on RUclips. Anything below 40 degrees the heated grips will keep the inside of your hands warm but the top of your hands will get cold if your out riding long enough. You might want to consider some heated gloves.

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  2 года назад +1

      I’ve tried some battery powered heated gloves that didn’t work that well and were thick and bulky. I’ll see how the grips work. I’ve got a friend who has heated gloves that plug into the bike’s battery and they work great. That might have to be an option if the heated grips aren’t enough. Thanks for watching.

    First time viewer ...I too live in Georgia - Gwinnett county. While I ride a 2014 Goldwing, our riding styles are very similar - mostly 200 +/- mile day rides with weekend trips as well. When it was time for me to upgrade, I wanted greater weather protection, increased luggage capacity and generally more comfort - I bought a 2014 Goldwing. While it's heavier than the Heritage, it's about the same as HDs touring models and that additional luggage capacity truly comes in handy - even for day trips. With my style of riding mostly backroads, I hardly ever use my cruise control and wouldn't miss it if it was gone. But my heated saddle and grips is surely welcomed in the cool mornings and throughout winter. As comfortable as the 'wing is, I installed a Utopia backrest on the stock saddle and it's a smart upgrade for any rider that routinely rides 200 mile day trips - it takes so much pressure off your lower back and shoulders. The wing also offers great rain protection - particularly the lower where my HD riding buddies' legs get soaked. Lastly, there is no denying the silky-smooth delivery of torque and power of the flat six 1832cc engine.
    Still, like they say, "there's a bike for every butt". Good video and ride safely.

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  2 года назад

      I have always wanted to try riding a Goldwing but have just never had the chance. I love the redesigned style of the new models. Do you have the DCT or manual transmission? I could see getting DCT as I get older.

    • @ronfriedman8740
      @ronfriedman8740 2 года назад +1

      @@GARamblinMan no, mine is a Gen 5 so it has a 5 speed - the wings were redesigned in 2018 and then trunk lid was enlarged in 2020 to once again accommodate two helmets after peeps complained about shrinking luggage capacity. I hear only good things about the DCT and how it's flawless ...it just knows what gear to grab in the corners, but I too have not yet had a chance to ride the new wing. Still, if I were to buy a new wing I'd probably get the 6 speed manual over the 7 speed automatic.

    I have a sister softail the Sport Glide. It has the 15” Gustafson windshield with the factory fairing bags cruise control USB port inverted forks. Same core bike & setup. (windshield n bags) Super smooth 22k miles on it and I agree it’s a great week end solo tour kind of bike. I see no reason for my use to get one of the big baggers and have an extra 100 plus pounds of bike to turn around or maneuver in driveways garages gravel grass etc which inevitably we have to do. Really happy with this bike.

      @@GARamblinMan HD is building 2022 Sport Glides but is only selling them abroad.
      I think HD should bring it back only in two versions like they did with the Low Rider & LRS. One more club style with blacked out exhaust motor & trim. A solo saddle with detachable passenger pillon clete pegs & Harley’s T bar.
      The other with chrome pkg current bars a step seat with a narrow front to also accommodate female riders and boards off the Slim.
      The Sport Glide is selling well to woman riders a growing market segment. Many are riders coming from their first bike Sportster. They like the easy to ride confidence inspiring low center of gravity sit in it instead of on it with low seat height to flat foot the ground. With over 100 pounds less heft than a bagger to maneuver in garages single lane driveways gravel & grass that we all have to do from time to time it makes sense.
      This time have better windshield options and promote & advertise it. Four years on the market it sold by someone stumbling across one on a dealership floor if and when MoCo sent them one. Still today the comment I get from other Harley owners is; cool what is it. Even though they sold well at the four local dealerships.
      The distinguishing difference between it and the LRS was never the fairing & bags but the riding position. The LRS has a higher forward setting solo seat with dirt bike like bars & mid controls for fast riding canyon carving etc.
      The Sport Glide has a more laid back riding position pulled back bars & forward controls as a cruiser. It’s a different ride for a different rider.

    Thanks for the great video view of Georgia. I live 20 miles west of Asheville and it really is beautiful riding through the mountains up here. I just recently bought a used 2022 Heritage Classic with 3900 miles and to be honest with you, I'm not sure if I made a wise choice considering my age. I think it was a good financial decision because the price was too good to be true and I bought it from a new car dealer from a customer trade in. BTW, I work at the dealership and I'll be sixty nine years of age on my next birthday. I have really had the desire to own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for a long time. I also haven't been riding a motorcycle in over thirty-five years and I've owned five. I think it is a fear that I have to go through and get past because the more I get own it is a step closer at building my courage. I will definitely enroll in the motorcycle riding safety class here in Asheville because #1, I need it and #2, it will be the best beginning of building my confidence of feeling safe as I ride my new Harley. I'm really glad that I came across your video and I'm looking forward to seeing more. You really made me feel like I am not out of place riding my new motorcycle. Jim

    The Heritage is more (true) touring capable than most Touring models. US-only touring then I’d (possibly) have something bigger that matches the roads…long but, importantly, big (even in town). Anywhere else and you want the ability to strip down for Italian cobbled streets and throw it around on any country’s mountain roads (that are much narrower). My CycleVision’s ‘Barebacks’ allow for my bags to be instantaneously removed and along with the shield/pillion/sissy it’s like having a Slim. My next addition for distance is a (immediately removable…so no electrics) batwing fairing to have a faux-Electra Glide. Most versatile model in the range. I do love the look of a RKS, though (but not nearly as comfortable riding position) and I decided to add adjustable suspension and a bigger front rotor to my FLHCS than spend the money on a ‘square-1’ upgrade.

    • @GARamblinMan

    Hello! Im on the market for a bike like yours, my wife and I are interested on making some trips this year. The only thing that worries me on these bikes are the spoked wheels (tubed tyres) Have you ever had any problems with these tyres? My main concern is that we get a puncture on the road at highway speeds, loosing control of the bike and fall. How has your experience been traveling with this kind of tires so far?

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  Год назад +2

      Funny you should ask - yes I did have a problem last year when I had a flat tire (2 nails did the damage) in the middle of no where. Luckily I was only going about 50 mph and I felt the bike feel really weird and I was not in any traffic so I rode very slowly to a service station and tried to put air in the back tire and it would not hold anything. I have AAA road side assistance so I was able to get it trailered to a dealer where they replaced the tire but it was a long process. I’ve been riding off and on for 50 years with motorcycles with spoked wheels and never had a fiat until I was on my brand new Harley-Davidson Heritage. I like the look of spoked wheels but given the choice I would opt for mag wheels and tubeless tires. That’s really only a small dislike for me for this motorcycle. I love it for touring and I think it would be fine with a passenger with the Milwaukee 8 114 cubic inch motor. Thanks for watching and good luck with your search.

I am tall enough to see over the windshield and I do notice a good bit of air about eye level when I’m not wearing a full face helmet and visor. But with the full face helmet on the wind doesn’t bother me. There is a good bit of wind that comes up from below the windshield and up and over and around the tank that doesn’t bother me either. The Heritage might be a little bit big and too powerful for a 1st motorcycle. It’s over 700 lbs and the 107 or 114 motors are very big and powerful for a beginner. My recommendation for a first bike is somewhere in the 500 cc range for motor and lighter. That being said, after getting some experience on a smaller bike the Heritage is a perfectly fine 2nd bike if you like that kind of style. It’s good for running around town or touring in my opinion. Touring with a passenger might be a little challenging but solo it’s fine. Good luck and ride safe!

      I got my first bike a 2011 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic back in January. It’s got plenty of power and forgiving for a beginner. It’s been a good bike to me and I plan on getting a Harley in the future.

    I just bought a 2022 Heritage Classic just like yours. My first ride was a windy day and the wind buffeting around my helmet was terrible. Have you experienced this?
    By the way, your voice sounds exactly like VP Mike Pence. :)

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  4 месяца назад

      Never met Mr Pence, but I’ll take that as a compliment! I don’t experience much wind buffeting at all but it could happen on a really windy day especially if there are cross winds. Maybe try some lower deflectors and see if that helps. Thanks for watching!

      My take is that you are riding with a passenger, go with the bigger Road King. The Heritage is fine for single riders.

    The stock grips are pretty bad....after about 6 hrs they feel like you are twisting melting rubber.Just that mushy old steering wheel feeling.....messes with gloves real bad too.

      I like the feel of the new Kahuna heated grips I just installed. Even during warm weather when I’m not using the heat these grips feel pretty good. So much better than the Dominion grips I first put on. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.

      I think it’s good the new saddle bags are rigid and lockable but I still think they could be better. Definitely don’t hold as much as they look like they would. Thanks for watching and commenting.
