Desmond Doss saved more than 75, they just settled on that number. There were many other heroic acts he did, but were left out because they didn’t think the audience would believe it-

He did actually save 100 men, according to his captain, but he said he only saved fifty. They agreed to split the difference.

It is my favorite war movie…because Mel Gibson (the director) left nothing out. He did not let perceived sensitivities censor anything real that actually occurred in the story. It was nominated for several awards, but only won 2 relatively minor academy awards. To me it was obvious that other members of the “academy” didn’t do the same as Mel and his production company. His production company, along with the comedy of Chappell (in another gendre) have integrity and courage when story telling

Hacksaw Ridge is arguably the greatest WW2 movie ever made

Hugo Weaving did an amazing acting performance. Oscar worthy, in my opinion.

The thing you gotta realize even though you’re amazed at his heroics Mel Gibson had the tone this movie down because nobody would believe what else he did

One of my favourite life sayings is "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."

This is why I get so freaking mad when people in this country criticize our Veterans who has given everything and so much more to protect everyone of us!!!!!

I’m in love with this movie. I’d watch it a million times over. And Dorothy is played by the actress Teresa Palmer. She’s amazing and has plenty of roles in Cinema.

The actual story of Desmond Doss, He was actually in for 1943 to 1945 and he actually said the most biggest temptation he ever has was dropping a grenade down a tunnel he didn't do it but he said to his dying day That was his biggest temptation ever

I read an article with references to Japanese reports of this action and several Japanese soldiers reported that they had Desmond in their sights but when they pulled their triggers the rifle jammed. Someone loved Desmond.

Reminds me of the line from Braveheart when William Wallace was talking to Robert The Bruce, "Men don't follow titles, they follow courage." DD certainly had that.

As a veteran I am proud to see today’s interest in the military genre of movies. The advances in special effects have presented such an immersive visual effect, those without military experience can get a little idea of the “HARSH REALITY” our military can face. I had the honor to attend a special showing of “Saving Private Ryan” the second week of its theatrical release. The first two rows (floor level and one up) were reserved for WWII veterans & family. Just before the coming attractions showed, approximately 20 people were ushered to their seats. At the end only subdued sniffles and sobs could be herd with NOONE moving to leave. After a brief pause the first of the veterans got up to leave, while the rest of us in attendance gave them ALL a standing ovation as they left. There seems to be a flow-over effect of people watching some older movies; “Full Metal Jacket”, “Platoon”, “M*A*S*H”, “Apocalypse Now” etc. I think these movies are great but need to be viewed with the filter of social commentary for the time they were made.

Desmond's father suffered from a severe case of PTSD and survivor's guilt.
