- I'm fixing hail damage on this Hyundai Santa Fe and wanted to document how to remove the headliner. We are dropping the headliner to gain access to the metal so we can fix the hail dents on the roof. Hopefully you find it helpful. Tools needed are listed below. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for making a super easy to follow tutorial! Never had to remove a headliner before but got a mouse stuck in my wife’s car. Managed to chew something and now the dome lights don’t work lol so this will make it easier (hopefully) to fix that issue!

Thanks for this video. I have to install a rear camera for my dash cam and this video is very helpful. I don't anticipate having to remove the headliner but now I see how the thing comes down just in case it comes to that.

Thanks for this video, very helpful. Do you have a video replacing the roof antenna? Mine got damaged by my garage door as I reverse my car out. I assumed you need access to the entire roof liner to remove the old antenna directly screwed to the roof.
I don't have a video for the antenna, but replacing antennas in the roof is really straightforward. Take the headliner down, like I show in the video. You'll see a wire running from the antenna to a plug. Unplug it. Then there is a singular nut you have to loosen on the underside of the antenna on the roof. Once you loosen that nut, the antenna is free.

Hail damage repair on the roof! Maggots?! Yikes. Carpet is usually not that hard. I've done it in several vehicles. It does require removing the seats and then the carpet is tucked under trim panels so you have to gently pull it out and then use a interior plastic tool to push it back in after cleaning. You can do it, just be prepared for a full day of work!
Working on a 2021 santa fe and would like to know how you remove the compartment tray under the lift gate cargo area ? Need to run wiring for a led mod on lift gate by running run wire under the cargo tray to reach the trailer wiring harnes for turn signal wiring.

Hey Jim, I'm not sure if that is removable or not. Sometimes you can trace the existing wiring for the trailer hookups and use the route. On my 4Runner for example, there is a rubber gromet on the rear passenger side that the trailer wiring goes through. Maybe you can find something like that on the Santa Fe. Good luck with your LED project!
question the light in the middle at the end of the video, were you not able to remove the middle light housing after removing screws
The light housing stays in the headliner. I imagine you can remove it completely, but it's not necessary. It's very secure in the headliner and Hyundai uses that with the screws to keep the headliner snug in the middle.
Is there any issue with the Side airbags going off, do you need to disconnect the battery ?
I've done hundreds of headliners and I don't unplug the battery. Never had an issue. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery just to be safe.
Hi, Just another question regarding the small lights above the sun visor, looks like you didn’t touch them, when you remove the headliner are they wired to the liner and require disconnecting somehow ? You asked for feedback, Would have been helpful to see the headliner physically being removed from the vehicle to see any issues associated with that. Thanks again 👍👍

Yes, very similar.
is it the same for the 2009 model?
I can't say for certain because I don't have one in front of me right now, but in my experience after doing hundreds of headliners, the removal process doesn't change that much from year to year within the same make and model.
How long did this take you to do?
Headliners take me 15-20 minutes. I've done hundreds of cars though. If it's your first time it's more like an hour.

sorry to be a negative nelly, but I watched the whole thing and you never actually took the headliner down. also, you seem to confuse the term bolt with screw. they are different.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. For my purposes, I lower the headliner. Because I am fixing dents on the roof of the vehicle, I remove the headliner from all the pillars and drop it down so I have access to the metal. I don't actually take it out of the vehicle unless absolutely necessary (very rare in my case). Thanks for the clarification on bolt and screw. When I film these, I am in the middle of working and I film in a full take as quickly as possible. I don't really think about my exact terminology. I assume viewers will know what I mean because I point out the screw. I'll keep this in mind in the future. Thanks for the feedback.

And that center light-was there any trick about getting it to notch into either sheet steel or the headliner on the reinstall?
I found this video looking for instructions on the CM Santa Fe--a 2011, specifically. I'm looking at buying a used 2011 Santa Fe, and if I do, I will have to tighten the hardware holding the roof rails to the top. The only way to do that right is to drop the headliner!
Also--as a licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer, I'll give you an official "pass" on the screw vs bolt bolt-up. Sorry: screw-up.
Note: In October, I bought that Santa Fe, and I wound up dropping the headliner. It took me 2-2.5 hours from start to finish.
