The mainstream music execs want bands and artists they can whore out. Any unique band that sets it's own standards will be ignored while the media pushes the mainstream cookie cutter crap.

The verses actually sound contradictory in a way, cause they start with "A man is a man, and a woman is a woman", so it sounds like they don't like trans people, but then it's in a soung about how nothing really matters etc. I am of course for trans rights, and I am tending towards the opinion that the cat empire aren't transphobic, but I hope to start a discussion about this in these comments, cause I am curious about other people's opinions about that verse.
