But did they even think that fingers are a bit on the big side? But ok using the tweezers to keep left needle in place.
(Why do needles always break when you are in a rush?)

I believe Overlocker needles are little thicker then standard sewing machine needles so better use Overlocker needles. Otherwise needles will keep breaking. Hope it helps😊

Yes, use a standard sewing machine needle size 12 or 14 80/90
