OMG, a hero who scaraficed themselves and didn't want to?! That's not something you see very often. It's usually treated as a noble act, but you don't get to hear them be scared and regret it. You rarely get them to say that they didn't want it but it was their only option. I'm so glad they went this route, yes what Mara did was noble and yes it helped save the world. But that doesn't mean she wanted to die.
I really liked that with both Mara and later Adora they deconstructed/examined the hell out of that trope and how toxic it really can be, when you say, it is glorified.
Just thinking of Mara makes me tear up. She truly didn’t deserve that fate. She truly didn’t. She didn’t deserve to be forgotten and falsely recorded as a failure. She didn’t deserve the pain and death. She didn’t deserve any of it. But she chose it anyway because she was brave and kind enough to think of the world, her home, and her successor who she never even met. Ultimately her sacrifice was not in vain, but she still didn’t get to have pie with Razz…or meet HER Light Hope again. Mara’s story ring deeply because sometime…or often the real heroes never get to return home and see the fruit of their labor, and that is so sad. Gosh im bawling now
Let's not forget about the fact that she sacrificed herself even though she knew that she was not going to be remembered as a hero. "I never wanted to be a hero and I won't be remembered as one". Oh gosh now I'm bawling now.
I personally take comfort that she was eventually remembered as a hero thanks to Adora and Madam Razz. But now, I'm tearing up again because I freaking love Mara.
@@fairyblu6929 And over a thousand years later, the Light Hope that she knew and loved claws her way back through the reprogramming and makes the same sacrifice.

@ANDREA E AMEGASHIE I suppose she had some form of group, given the code friends of Mara. Some sort of resistance that identified as her friends. Makes me think how cool a show about her rebellion could be, a show that starts with the scenes from the flashbacks of her last moments and the tells the story that led her there.
“I never wanted to be a hero, I won’t be remembered as one” “I sacrificed myself so you wouldn’t have to” “We’ll make a pie tomorrow, I promise” “I won’t destroy worlds to bring peace!” “You are not Light Hope, you are not her and you don’t get to tell me what my destiny is!” “I never wanted to die…” I’m not crying...you are... I think this is one of the common themes in the show, overcoming or making their own, one's programming/conditioning/ external expectations/destiny in order to be truly free, authentic, happy. There are aspects of this in multiple characters - Adora, Catra, Mara, Light hope, Bow, Hordak.
I know this isn't related, but I was wondering, can you become She Ra at any age? Cause Adora found the sword when she was like 17, but I wonder at what age Mara became She Ra. Idk. Just wanted to start a discussion 🤷♀️
Not gonna lie, I cried when the last flashback and hologram ended and the old witch gave the Pie to Mara, who no longer was alive. Mad respect for this show!!!
What makes this even more tragic to me are these two facts. 1) Light Hope was only following her programming and was esentially caught in the crossfire. 2) You can kind of understand why The Eternians/First One's would've wanted to use The Heart of Etheria. I read somewhere that they were going to use it against The Horde to defeat Horde Prime but using the weapon would kill Etheria. They were willing to sacrifice one planet to save the rest of the universe,a small price to pay in the grand scheme of the universe.
I would love a spin off about Mara's story, a bitter sweet story, where the tragic end can be the intro, a story about how her life led to that moment. To see the journey would be amazing.
A lot of people wanted a she ra movie about the best friend squad’s final adventure that they talked about in the last scene, but god I would kill for a Mara movie
Since the shera cycle is very similar to the avatar cycle, heres something; Beast island. Crystal Castle. The Horde. Mistacor. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when The Horde attacked. Only shera, princess of power, could stop them, but when the world needed her most, she vanished. A hundred years passed and my friend, Bow and I discovered the new Shera, an force captain named Adora, and although her fighting skills are great, she has a lot to learn before she's ready to save anyone. But I believe Adora can save the world.

Mara is a very unique character. Even in media explicitly made for adults you dont often see the dark side of martyrdom. To be a martyr is not just honorable, it's tragic, nobody should have to die for a better world, and we shouldnt romanticize the fact that they do.
Honestly Her inclusion was one of better changes they made in the reboot compared to the original. Its always hinted that the swords chose Adam and adora, as one of their many wielders in the 1980s cartoon. but they never really explored that possibility beyond a few lines from the sorceress. It nice to put a name on to someone we've never seen but was probably always there.

It wasn't here but I love her line from season 3: "Maybe it's been a week... Maybe it's been thousands of years..." it really drives home how cut off she felt at the very end. She doesn't have any guarantee her sacrifice will mean anything except a few days' delay. But she did it anyways. That's heroism.
Eternian society would collapse shortly after this, with the death of their king, D'vann Grayskull. Their empire would split into 3 kingdoms, their extraplanetary colonies would be lost to them, and most of their advanced technology would be lost.
I found it powerful when she say that she don't get to tell her destiny because the chosen story are usually some who live a destiny that others people tell them to do even if it mean put themself in harm way/get hurt/or die but mara say cut the bullshit and i love it. It's their life not others people life they should not tell them what to do with their life .
