Hey guys! You all have been asking for some accurate Opeth guitar lessons here on Weekend Wankshop for a while now, so i figured with it being this time of year, its the perfect time to learn the ending clean section of Dirge For November from their legendary Blackwater Park album! Weekend Wankshop 207 is gonna learn you good!
This is in standard tuning and played fingerstyle. Be sure to use a neck humbucker (like the Thornbucker i'm using in my Suhr Alt T), and dial in some gorgeous reverb/delay, preferably with some shimmery octave magic. Lucky for me, the Kemper Profiler does that stuff great!
What other Opeth songs, riffs, or solos need lessons on future installments of Weekend Wankshop?! Let Uncle Ben know in the comments below!

Thanks for learning the right way to play Dirge for November! What other Opeth songs, riffs, or solos do you want to learn next on Weekend Wankshop ?
Main Blackwater Park riff or Godhead's Lament
Moonlapse Vertigo!
Mastodon roots remain solo
Megistrus yess
Ben Eller Most of the riffs from "Black Water Park", "Heir Apparent", and/or "The Ghost Of Perdition"
That tone is spot on
Да, это!
Gosh darn I agree ! 👍
You became my favorite uncle just because of this opeth video
agree
Blackwater Park is one of the greatest albums of all time, in any genre
When I first heard this riff I was coming out of a really hard chapter in my life and when I heard that ending riff at the end of the song I just broke down in tears and got massive chills because of how beautifully it sort of summed up what I had been through for the last year..... the song to this day helps me heal from the scar tissue I’ve collected from really bad life experiences.
You are not the only one, there's more people who felt the same with this song, this has a sad but healing effect
Opeth is life bro. Hope you're doing well. Your comment hit close to home with me.
@@osmeltorres07 I’m doing better but with everything going on now it just seems like there is a thick dark cloud over life itself….. Don’t get me wrong I have good times but I always wake up wondering what else bad is going to happen it just seems like there is always bad news….
I'll watch anything you upload of Lamb of God, metallica, megadeth, Opeth.....your format is so good. Keep the jokes rolling too. Love your humor
I love this melancholic style of playing.
Do you know any other songs that sound like this outro? I really dig the depressive but mellow style of music
@@colinclark1981 the outro from blackwater park is really sad aswell.
@@Opethfannumberone yeah but I don't think it's nearly as depressive as this one.
@@Opethfannumberone only thing close to this is dsbm that I know of
The Drapery Falls and Dirge For November have the Most depressive Outros in all Opeth discography
Your guitar tuitorial is one of the best ive ever seen not only this but every single tutorial youve made..
Patterns in the ivy... Thanks for doing opeth

Love me some Opeth, hope for some more of their stuff here in the future. Great lesson!
Never done any kind of fingerpicking before but I love Opeth and there isn't really any lessons of ANY of their songs on youtube so I will definitely try to learn this. Thank you!
Yes Uncle Ben!! I've always wanted to learn this!!
Mr. Eller can't tell you how much I enjoy watching your videos here on RUclips. I have learned a lot of my favorite guitar tracks done correctly (yes I am the dude that has bought over a 100+ guitar tab books that are usually wrong) and you seem to always pick the tunes I am most interested in. It is like you are psychic! I was over joyed to see you are a Opeth ( and Megadeth) fan too and look forward to you digging into more tunes by them. Opeth give me hope there are still bands with good songwriting skills in today's music.
One of my favorite riffs. So serene and dreamy.
This is perfect, I just heard this today and thought, "dang I wanna learn that" and here you are. I wrote out all the notes on tab so I wouldn't forget. Thanks!
The Drapery Falls and Dirge For November are My favorite Songs From The Blackwater Park Record
look whos back its our stepdad
fazeel ashraf lol random
Beautifull❤️Thanx Uncle Ben, very good lesson!!!
Good call, duder. This is easily one of my favorite Opeths!
Boi you nailed that tone better than Opeth themselves!
What a coincidence.....ive been listening to this song specifically all week. Thanks uncle ben!
Perfect! This one is gorgeous, will definitely learn.
I just searched for a lesson for this song and was so happy to see you were the first one that popped up!
Awesome part to post a lesson on! Super helpful. Thank you!
That shimmer sound really seals the deal when you play it through.
Don't care if it's been said already, that tone is impeccable!
Yesssss, more Opeth!!! Thanks very much for doing this. Will love to see you do a lesson on Burden by Opeth.
You really are the uncle we never had & I rlly hope you touch on more opeth in the future
Awesome job with this tutorial, man. This is my favorite guitar part Mikael has ever written and, being a beginner guitarist, you explained it great and I got it down super fast. Don't really know how to "roll through" the A minor quickly, though, but that's the only part I'm struggling with and it just comes down to my lack of skill lol. Thank you so much for the great video!
Uncle Ben: the best guitar lessons and advices on RUclips! Thanx for that👍
Could you explain that weird riff at the end of The Leper Affinity?
Thanks Ben, the tone is smooth and the sound is perfect. I would like some acoustic material for future Opeth lessons.
just nailed it, thanks to the tab! thanks uncle ben!
imagine having a bossa nova rythym in a song of this style. Opeth are legends
Always wanted to learn this and never realized it was so easy. Thanks man!
Thanks for this man! Greatly appreciated!
Swanky Tele-style Suhr, Uncle Ben.
Love me some Opeth. Still learning "Ruin" by Lamb of God with your lesson, but I think I'll give "Ghost Of Perdition" a whirl too.
Awesome, I was just looking at a tab for this. Thanks dude!
woww nice lesson ! great sounds
LOVE this! Can’t wait to get started learning it. I’d love to see something from Still Life (The Moor, maybe?). Love your channel, it’s helped me a ton!
Your an amazing teacher!
Thanks man! I always loved this piece - and now I get to play it myself, only some 17,5 years later, LOL. A nice weekend to y'all :D
Thanks Uncle Ben, awesome. Pattern In The Ivy would be a good song to cover!
awesome sounding! love this vid
Awesome Uncle Ben. More Opeth puuuulease.
loved it man
thanks
Wow I don’t play guitar but enjoyed every min, so clearly explained. Well done sir!

U don't need any ego stroking but I'm pretty sure U approach everything this way. OUTSTANDING ! Have a ROCKING HOLIDAY ! 🎶🤘DARK SHADOWS DAVE ROCK ON 🍻✨🎸🌟😎
Thanks! This is fantastic
Mikael is a genius! He is so underrated as a guitarist.
Great choice Ben. Well done. Next, go for The Leper Affinity. It has got everything.

Please make a lesson on the windowpane solo! Love your channel ben, greetings from Chile! :D
Love this part of the song
Please more Opeth lessons!
Any tips on adding that shimmer to the delay? Like settings wise? Also great lesson as always, Uncle Ben!!
Well I can't play any of this yet...but you're my favorite tutorial channel to watch :
You should do black water park, the song. That was the first opeth album I ever heard and honestly I have yet to find an album from any band that is anywhere close to the level of masterpiece as it.
Will you do a lesson on to bid you farewell? I can't find any good tabs
Nicolas Morgan I cant hardily find any good lyric videos for Opeth either
I have a cover of the solo if that helps
Yes yes please! That song is acoustic eargasm
yes please!
Still waiting on this -\_(:/)_/-
PLEASE GOD do Black Rose Immortal!
YES!
Would love for you to do a lesson on chris olivia from savatage, real metal !
Awesome video, thank you sir. One small correction - on the d flat major 7 part, I am 100% sure he only plucks the A4 and B6 on the first pluck then adds the G5 on the second pluck.
Well...this made my night.
thanks Shannon!
Yo Uncle Ben can you PLEASE do a lesson on the acoustic intro of Dirge for November?
One of their most beautiful pieces. How does one write something like that??
Yes!!!
I live in the hills of East Tn as well.
Man if you did blackwater Park itself that’d be sick (any section, but that intro riff I see a bunch of variations on within the internet). That or the any of Fredriks solos, or face of Melinda
Aw fuck it anything by opeth is great
3:29 - 3:35 You just described my day...
finally opeth!!!!
Could you please do the ending solos to burden by opeth? Can’t find an in depth lesson to them
Ohoi fellow kemper user! Any chance you could upload the rig? Fantastic tone!
Apocalypse orchestra please
Aekerfeldt is KING.
Happy belated Thanksgiving uncle Ben! Been meaning to ask you for a while now, but have you ever thought about perhaps producing original music? I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say we're curious what your versatile skills/tastes would converge to be.
Interlude of Blackwater Park?
How to add that shimmer??
That first track on deliverance would be cool I think it has a strange tuning though could be wrong
OrfinMusik windowpane? It’s in standard with a capo 1 or 2, can’t remember which.
What song is being played under the title credits? Sounds like stripped down NIN
Yo Ben, weird question. You mentioned living in eastern Tennessee, did you happen to go to an Opeth/Enslaved show in Knoxville around '08 or maybe '09? I went to that show back when I lived in Asheville and I still think about it fondly.
i sure did!!!
Ben Eller Hah, sweet! I coulda met Uncle Ben before I knew who Uncle Ben was.
Still Day Beneath the Sun!
looooove that one
I re-learn to play it and then forget it again at least once a year, but man.. that chorus gives me chills..
Sounds great. Mikael is a genius.
Chords anyone?
Nailed the tone!
I love the beginning of that song, one of my highlights of that album
Reverie/Harlequin Forest, pretty please?
Will a PRS SE Akerfeldt 6 string work?😉
Godhead's Lament!
Blackwater Park.
Nuff said.
So there is intro and outro. Where is the song by itself?
Is that a TC Flashback crystal delay I hear at the background?
nah, as i said in the video, its all from the Kemper! Love the Flashback though.
Where is stuff Gojira does???
next alcest
East Tennessee?! Me, too! Good shit.
ps - more Opeth, please!
865 represent!
What part of Tennessee? I’m around Nashville
near knoxville!
Been that way many times! I’m sure you wouldn’t want to being that I’m a complete stranger but it would be cool to jam one time. Completely understand if you don’t. Anyway great content and your a great player!
Do more opeth.
Cool video ! Make more ! ;)
But don't you have a PRS unstead of the Suhr ?
Cheers
craamji lolye i have a PRE SE acoustic that is lovely!
Dirge for november and to live is to die by Metallica just rips a hole in my chest
lessons like this is shit when you dont have tabs... love your other stuff :)
