    greetings!
hey this was our first time in vietnam and wihout a tour guide at that!
    SIM CARDS
when you arrive at TSN Airport, near the immigration counters, there's like two booth, one's red and another's blue, that sell sim cards.
I bought viettel sim card at the red booth which was expensive! 350k dong! the reason is bcs i watched videos that said viettel provide the most coverage in Vietnam.
My dad bought mobifone sim card at the blue booth which was wayy cheaper at 250k dong! the performance was just the same.
i suggest buy a cheaper sim card unless you're going to travel up north. and most buildings in the city provide free wifi.
    E-HAILING
you can use the Grab app in HCMC. when you exit the airport, find pillars no. 5 and 6. cross the street to the parking area and find the e-hailing pick up spot. set your destination and don't forget select payment by cash.
    BUS
to get to HCMC, u can hop on the blue bus no. 152, fee is only 5k per hand and additional fee for luggage is 5/10k.
other option is yellow bus no. 109, fee is 20k bcs the bus is bit luxurious (?)
    BEN THANH MARKET
this place is kinda overwhelming for an introvert like me but I like a little bit of a challenge. vendors will storm at you from all directions.
you need to bargain 50-70% from the original price. especially if you go when the market just opened, you'll definitely get the asked price if you're their first customer. they believe it'll bring them luck. but if you don't buy after you bargained, it'll bring them bad luck and they'll be mad at you.
they're also a polyglot haha. bcs its a tourist attraction. l, they can speak many languages. so be careful when you speak.
    SCAM
at malaysian street, there's this man selling peanuts. he said it was 10k. then suddenly the price became 20k. he tried to take 200k from our hands saying its 20k. we didn't fell for the trick. so, be familiar with the currency and don't take out your wallet in front of the seller.
another one is coconut drink seller near the independence palace. he first said 15k. we only asked for one but his hand was quick and cut 3 coconuts already. so we took the coconut from his hands and put it back.
what's unbelievable was he said the price was actually 50k. so we paid 150k for 3 coconuts whereas its only 15k per coconut at Ben Thanh Market. so, make sure the actual price first.
sellers usually hand you or children things they sell and suddenly you have to pay for that. be careful! don't just take things that they hand to you.
    HALAL
there's this drink brand called KIRIN which is halal certified. I didn't really explore the convenience store so I only know this brand.
There's also a halal certified cafe called Coma Coffee just next to Malaysian Street.
Malaysian street is also full of restaurant serving halal foods but its pricey. we're on a tight budget so we also brought ready to eat meals and instant noodles.
    PAY
In Malaysian street and Ben Thanh market, we sometimes paid in MYR rather than VND bcs its cheaper in MYR. I think they also accept other currency.
    CROSSING ROADS
just stay calm. go slow be consistent with your speed. the scooters will go around you so don't do anything sudden like stopping, turning around or changing course.
just see which way they're going and adjust your speed accordingly.
    COFFEE
there're many types of coffee beans in Vietnam but the two popularly grown there are arabica and robusta beans. opt for arabica instead of robusta.
you know the vietnamese coffee meme right? about 97% of Vietnam's coffee beans are robusta. they're bitter, strong and contains double the caffeine (2.7%) compared to arabica (1.5%).
arabica tends to have a smoother, sweeter taste with a hint of chocolate note.
    that'll be all.
    bye!

The cafe that i went didn't have hahal cert but it is a vegan cafe. I also asked if they use alcohol and they didn't. I'd just confide in that and thought that there's no cross contamination with non-halal ingredients.
