I've always felt sympathy for Salad Fingers and his derangedness, because when I was younger and in the depths of the nightmare that is puberty and middle school I felt similarly weird and out of place in a world I didn't understand.

Animations like this were some of the more high effort content online back then since home video cameras weren't great and people hadn't had time to completely fill the internet with weird stuff yet. This was well made for online indie animation at the time and pretty wild as an idea so it got around. I remember watching this with friends in the 00's.
This series can go absolutely insane and I'm here for it

The fact that the first salad fingers episode came out 19 years ago and there are still new episodes coming out (with the latest episode having only come out a few days ago) blows my mind

Memes used to stay viral for months cause the internet was small and new enough that *~C O N T E N T~* was pretty rare compared to now. if you were an internet enjoyer when salad fingers came out, a creepy animated short like that was HUGE. RUclips was just normie content, smosh, and off-color stuff like salad fingers. The next 'flavor of the month' was Charlie the Unicorn. if you havent seen Charlie the Unicorn i will weep openly

I expected worse. Just yesterday, I watched a video about 'Giggly the Gooning Clown', the mere description of which got the previous version of this comment deleted, so Salad Fingers seems tame by comparison.
If you want a suggestion on what to react to, I suggest the old Pepsiman commercials on RUclips. I watched them after the aforementioned Giggly video, and they honestly healed my soul.

I think Salad Finger 7 is my favorite, it really plays with non-linear narratives.

In retrospect it's s funny these videos were so viral and blew so many people's minds, when surrealist shocking horror is as old as cinema. Hell, it's basically at the roots of horror movies
That is precisely why not knowing history, whitewashing it, or disregarding it, is dumb.
No doubt, when this got popular some older people took one look at it, said it was just a retread of _____... and no young person listened. Young person gets older, sees _____ for itself, realizes older person was right but never admits it.
That is the human condition. Now, apply that same arc to something that actually matters instead of clip-art nonsense and you'll see why old people always have, and always will, hate young people and vice versa.

Fun fact; the association of tetanus with rust is somewhat mistaken, as rust itself has nothing to do with tetanus. Dude, the full series is nuts. There's multiple analysis videos with theories like SF was a British man who was living in a bombed-out world after the First World War and slowly going crazy, or that he fought in the war and the whole series is just him dealing with his resulting PTSD or some shit like that.
There's also subtle hints here and there to his personal life through the series, but they're scattered out of order and EXTREMELY cryptic.

The best way to sum up Salad Fingers is found in the title of its background music, which is called "Beware the Friendly Stranger." Essentially, Salad Fingers IS friendly and well-meaning, but the state of his delusional mind makes him potentially dangerous, as he might hurt you and have no memory of it, or remember the event very differently.
Jeez, I dont remember these at all, all i remember is finally being abke to feel the high from weed for the first time and being so disturbed by this series after my friends forced me to watch it 😅

I think the reason it was seen as fucked up when it came out is because this was some of the first of its kind. So the stuff that's fucked up now is beyond this most of the time.
