    • @EstorilEm
      @EstorilEm 2 месяца назад

      Absolutely not, testing was done on this aircraft, the part failed during FAA CERTIFICATION - as in their job was to show the FAA that the plane was complete and safe for the public.
      They also did NOT detect the issue till the part completely fractured, likely only because the plane was instrumented still. Had this plane gone into service (which Boeing was essentially telling the FAA it could…) I believe it would have resulted in the engine detaching from the pylon during takeoff/climb. In revenue service the thrust link wouldn’t have been examined for a very long time, and it wouldn’t have been picked up by standard instrumentation on production aircraft.
      So no, not good news. It’s pure luck that Boeing caught this the way they did.

    That there are problems found during testflights is not uncommon. The main issue is, they are way behind schedule. It seems they found more than enough problems that needed to be adressed to proceed as intended. Airlines will be far from amused to see a further delay getting their aircraft. if Boeing wants to stay in the game it needs a B737MAX replacement asap . . . and that new Boeing narrow body jet should be fully operational & in service with airlines by 2035 - 2036 . . . two get rid of the folding wing tips from the B777-9X or replace it with a conventional fixed wing tip . . . things will be a lot easier then . . .

    • @fxhomie
      @fxhomie 2 месяца назад

      Get rid of the folding wingtips and it’s now a Class VI jet, same as the A380. That means fewer airports to fly into. The wingtips are here to stay.

    • @EstorilEm
      @EstorilEm 2 месяца назад +1

      The wingtips are one of the only things on this plane that DON’T seem to be giving Boeing any issues.
      Don’t forget, this is basically a 777-300ER with the wing that plane always should have had. Shorten the wing and you’re back to square one. Its economics are already marginal (given it’s 6yr delays - would have been much more appealing if it entered service in 2020 or something.)
      And no, their last two projects to simply upgrade existing designs have been TERRIBLE with the KC-46 and the 777X, I don’t think anyone on the aviation world has faith in Boeings ability to design and actually produce a clean-sheet aircraft right now.

    Im not an apologist for Boeing, but I do sympathise when aircraft design hits a few snags when it pushes past current technology, but my gripe with Boeing, is that if they hadn't given priority to other projects over the 777X for so long, we would be past this point and the aircraft in service by now.
    And I wonder if Emirates are closer to ordering the A350-1000 yet, as insurance against the continued 777X jinx, or are they going to operate those 380s until they become just as pensionable as Tim Clarke...😀...

      @@artrandy Hah I still think of the 380s as all being young, but I guess we are just getting older. Still, they ALL have a small cycle count thanks to the long haul nature of their ops.
      They’ve definitely managed to make the aircraft work for them, and regardless of the economics - passengers universally love the plane (on the flip side, most actually dislike the 77W due to noise/fatigue it seems?)
      We shall see - personally I think this is a MASSIVE issue that could result in an additional year delay for EIS. From my understanding of the failure, if they had gone TOGA or attempted another takeoff without discovering this - it very likely would have resulted in the engine departing the aircraft. Its entire purpose is to transfer some 100,000lb~ish thrust to the wing structure. There are simply no other components on the engine or wing-side of the pylon designed to handle those loads without it.
      As is common, it’ll probably take another week or two for this to really blow up in the media or to discover more details.

    Bad news for Boeing ; 1. Should never have merged with McDonnell Douglas. 2. Should never have ended production of the 757. 3. The 737 Max single handedly destroyed the company's reputation. Good news for Boeing : fire the McDonnell Douglas executives. 2. Return the headquarters to Seattle and Let engineers run the company again. 3. Re-open the 757 production line and make it more competitive with Airbus' 320 series. Put the flex wing on the updated 757. 4. Scrap the 737 Max and the Dreamliner 5. Apologize to the families of the whistleblowers who died.and the families of the passengers who died in the Max crashes. 6. Apologize to the employees of Boeing ,who worked hard to build high quality, safe, state of the art aircraft, only to have their livelihoods put in jeopardy. 7. Get the astronauts back home and stay out of the space program until you learn to safely transport people here on earth .Boeing needs to do some soul searching before they end up in the aviation graveyard.

      Why would they remake the 757? It would have to be recertified as a brand new aircraft……..so you might as well build a brand new aircraft

    • @jocelynharris-fx8ho
      @jocelynharris-fx8ho 2 месяца назад +1

      @@tomstravels520 you must not be familiar with how popular the 757 was. Many airlines, for many years, had been begging Boeing to bring it back and make an updated version. Pilots loved it's rocket-like take-off speed; especially those pilots who once flew fighter jets in the military. Passengers loved it and when it was originally built, it was designed with Rolls Royce RB-211 engines, to operate from airports with short runways but still have the power to operate long distance flights. I worked at an airport for a number of years and in the aviation industry, the 757 earned the nickname: the "Ferrari of the skies", or the " Seattle rocket". It was a much loved aircraft and had the capability to do so much. There was no need for a 787 Dreamliner, when that technology could have been incorporated into an updated version of the 757. Remember, Boeing never built a -100 series 757 because they wanted to leave that option open in the future, should they want to build a "down-sized" version like they did with the 747. ( The 747 SP- special performance). A down-sized 757 would have been a more logical way to compete with the the A320 rather than trying to "Max out" the 737, which was an almost 60 year old aircraft. The 757 by comparison is still fairly young and the potential was there, to incorporate new technology and features for today's market . Not to mention, that it is a beautiful, very sleek and very graceful jet. It is pleasure just to look at it .

      @@jocelynharris-fx8ho you don’t need to tell me the history of the 757. I know all about that stuff. But it doesn’t matter how popular it is. Boeing isn’t going to build a new assembly line to build the 757 again even with new wings and engines when it would have to be recertified exactly like a brand new plane and go through the whole testing and elevation process again. It’s bad enough trying to get the 777x through that process at the moment let alone a brand new plane. A replacement for the 757 yes that could be possible, but Boeing have put that project on hold whilst they sort out their current problems and Airbus is steaming ahead with the A321Neo, LR and XLR

Maybe they should go on strike and destroy the company altogether and a venture capitalist would buy it pennies on the dollar. As they say you’ve got to hit rock bottom before you can see the forest through the fires. Now I’m one that things can get better but negotiations are two sided sword Corporate leadership and Union Stewards better make some major concessions. These things really bring light to those actually building the planes rockets or anything built by Boeing. So they found an issue during testing 🤔 ummmm that's why you test. For the idiots calling it out this was apart of boeing transparency with customers to let them know if anything is found in testing that needs to be addressed. Every plane maker auto maker test extensively to find issues and what do you know they found one of concern, that's going to be fixed immediately. These videos just make for clicks because it's boeing. I bet a similar video regarding Airbus finding minor issues with testing wouldn't be created.

      Some other idiots don't understand that the main issue is not finding problems during testing. The main issue is 777X certification has been already delayed for several years and this new issue will create further delay while everybody was expecting 777X aircraft to start to be delivered.
      Boeing gave all its engineering force to MAX7 and MAX10 certification, postponing 777X tests to be delayed and caused this technical issue to surface this late. At the end of the day neither MAX7, nor MAX10, nor 777X was certified, those idiots don't seem to notice.
