If pokemon was a class. The pokemon should have a new keyword "Evolve" where when they fulfill some requirements on the card, they evolve into the next version of the card and its kinda like "transform Shaman". Every minion has a little built in questline to make it stronger.
Dude havent seen this, dope content! If you think this is crazy tho, go watch Amaz Death Knight Concept from like 8 years ago. Then tell me blizzard didnt get inspired by that when making their own Dk
Rarran: "for everonye uncultured that has not played pokemon" Also Rarran literally the next second: explains leech seed wrong and continues to mix up pokemon moves.
This guy did such a good job on designing the cards. Not only from a hearthstone perspective this guy was ahead of his time but he did such a great job of including flair from the pokemon themselves. Integrating arena trap into dugtrios design for example or intimidate on growlith.
Definitely a neat idea. I think this class could use evolution as its primary mechanic. So every minion would start at the base stage, and have a way of evolving. Evolution could be triggered in a verity of ways such as damage requirements or spells or items. Perhaps evolution could be tied to hero power and remove berries. Berries could become a card that is just created as a spell, like bananas or a coin. If the evolution route was taken, mega evolution could potentially be tacked onto the end of evolution lines or some spells could create a mega stone spell to mega evolve applicable minions.
Hey Rarran, I know you said on a Voxy VOD that you're not too interested in trying Pokemon TCG, but right now the metagame is in a pretty good spot and I think it would be a good video to retry the game on Live. The program has its fair share of problems but I think it would be good content.
Important to note, for the purposes of mega evolving, if you cheat out a card by summoning a small copy of it, you still meta evolve with full stats. So you could definitely rock a Barnes deck that only uses one mega and a card to tutor it out after you Barnes it. That could be a little spicy. Still not great, but I'm sure if this stuff was updated, they'd have some sort of spell that just duplicates a pokémon.
WHAT A LEGEND! Did Mew and Gengar extremely dirty, though. Really interesting how much he predicted, really skilled at coming up with interesting concepts! Not so much when it comes to statlines. I'd love to see videos on Gen 2 and Gen 3 maybe.
tbh wouldve been better if they had a new key word "evolve" for this class if certain conditions were met you'd go into the next pokemon on it's evolution line, and for better flavor the mega evolve cards shouldve been done with a "mega stone" spell
my opinion, a good evolve keyword could be like Evolve: [insert pre evolution]. where the old minion is killed and the mana costs are subtracted. As for mega evolve, its the same but when the mega dies. the none mega is placed back on the board
Forge could have been a good mechanic to apply to the Pokemon as an equivalent for evolution. Reveal your card and spend some mana and you get a more powerful Pokemon. Like say, "Bulbasaur: 2 mana 2/3: Evolve (3) Lifesteal" and if you pay the evolve cost (3) it becomes "Ivysaur: 2 mana 4/5: Evolve (6) Lifesteal Battlecry: Enemy minions lose 2 attack until your next turn." And then then if you pay the evolve cost on Ivysaur, you get "Venusaur: 2 mana 4/11: Lifesteal Battlecry: Enemy minions lose 2 attack, and then all attack this minion." The power of the top evolution would be balanced by it total mana cost being 11 making it unplayable if you top deck it, and the fact it must be revealed to your opponent before it can be played. This would make up for the fact it would retain its base form's initial cost, even after evolving.
if I remember correctly, Bliizard actually already have 1 year ahead (3 expansion) been designed already. its either this guy is on hearthstone design team, or blizzard saw this post and just yoink it. if he's not in the design team, then this guy is actually genius
I'm guessing the mega evolution is supposed to work if played from hand. Meaning the normal version is only for when they get summoned from hand or resurrected. Of course I could be wrong, but this would be more in line with the power level of the other pokemon.
Honestly, forge would work great for mega evolution. Edit: Some of the details are so perfectly added, but you have to be play pokemon to understand. Mega alakazam has magic guard as an ability, which makes it only take damage from attacks. Magnemite has magnet pull, which makes steel types unable to switch out. Cloyster has skill link, which makes multi hit moves like Icicle spear always hit 5 times. Edit 2: Nvm I think mega alakazam has trace. normal alakazam has magic guard as hidden ability. A shame that some of the flavours are off. Mega gyarados should activate when an enemy dies, because normal gyarados has moxie, which boosts attack on a ko. Grimer is a complete miss for me, since steel is entirely immune to poison.
If im trying to represent pokemon with hearthstone mechanics, i kinda want to lean into evolution. Give the next form a cost reduction if the prior form is out. And maybe let you trade the prior evolution for an appropriate spell card. Something like ivysaur has battlecry sacrifice a Bulbasaur and put a vine whip card into your hand. Or even like draft from its movepool. I think you kinda have to balance it around only having one (or at least very few) monsters in the field at a time. Maybe the hero power deals damage to a minion equal to the lowest power of a minion you control. Idk but thats my idea on designing pokemon into hearthstone.
if a class like this was made today we could use the Rune System with it but instead of 3 options its 1 to signify the trainer type and what starters u can have access too
Megaevolve could be changed so if you played all stages (e.g. Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard in the same game) then the next one you play is the mega form.
@1:45 "they did Venusaur dirty by not even making him a Legendary! (...) "Destroy a friendly venusaur and Mega Evolve."... what the hell does that mean?" Those who understood the ramnifications of "Mega Evolve" would have sprouted goosebumps just hearing that roller coaster of a thought train, hahaa
Hearthstone literally has a TRANSFORM mechanic xD This custom class was one of the worse ones i have seen, really lazy, not inspired. Pokemon dont die when they mega evolve lul.
My only gripe is with the suggestion of making the HP cards 0-mana when to bring it in line with a normal HP you should just reduce the cost of the power itself to 1. We... don't need more 0-cost cards in Hearthstone. Especially spells, which these presumably are. If they weren't classified as spells though that would be ideal, 1-mana HP, 1-mana non-spell. If they were 0-cost cards you bet your ass Questing Adventurer just became relevant again, hoard those suckers in your hand and build a big big boi. Worse if they're spells and interact with spell-based minions and keywords (Like Arcane Anomaly or Penflinger and such). Most of those problems would be in Wild though of course.
I think Megaevolve should have been a spell. That way it would be like you triggering the mega evolution like you did it in the old Pokemon games. But I don't think the megaevolutions would be good enough the way they were designed to warrant casting a spell for triggering them. Also there should have been the evolution stones and other items somehow being added to the class.
I think some cards are cool but rather than 150 minions it would be cooler if the you only get the base Pokémon and the hero power is to evolve them either on the battlefield or in hand if it's too broken. And maybe mega evolve could be "discard a copy of this minion mega evolve"
what you could do now is go over and try and make it in the 2023 vision, though that'd probably take a while but cleaning up the stats and effects and such would be interesting form your preceptive [And probably get chat to maintain flavour lol :)] intresting adn entertaining video!
This definitely feels like a kid just made as much as he could like pokemon, less making balanced cards. Which is an interesting thing to look at from the perspective of looking for unique ideas. Also obviously theres a LOT of cards so they're less quality to make quantity
Can’t wait to make a deck with 4 0 cost 1/1s with upside the whole ratata line all the charge minions and curving out with the 5/5 enemy minions cast 1 more with pikachu to keep draw up that will we be so fun and happy
37:40 Oh, so this recurring joke about Rarran not being able to pronounce names didn't start with HS, but with Pokemon. My only complaint, so to say, is that the author should have made qualities based on how rare the Pokemon was in their original generation. So, for example, Lapras and Eevee should be epic, Lickitung should be rare and so on. Also, I would consider making a video for the other five generations (sad that the author stopped making them, right now we are at gen 9, so there's like 300 more Pokemon to make). If not for anything else, just to see him react to how newer Pokemon look like.
To inform Rarran about Pokemon since pokemon fans are lobotomites about this factoid. Dragon is a type of power other than a species, Charizard is biologically part of the dragon species but do not have the powers asociated with them. Because Charizard do not have the dragon typing Pokemon Lobotomites go "It'S nOT a ReaLl DrAGon"
It doesn't make sense to me to have the base card do something, then have the evolution do something entirely different. If it's evolving, why would it not just be the first card, but better?
I loved reading chat amd seeing dudes who haven't seen anything pokemon relatsd since 1922 just bs about cubone being a charmander or mew under the truck
The mega-evolve mechanic was very poorly constructed. You have to draw *both* of your tier 3, 8 cost minions, play one, and then transform that one with the other. All to get a minion that gets removed for 2-5 mana
kinda hate how he designed the berries, then with spearow remembered they exist, then fucked off again. he also maybe should have themes per pokemon type, like all grass types to healing kinda stuff, and all fire types damage etc.
If pokemon was a class. The pokemon should have a new keyword "Evolve" where when they fulfill some requirements on the card, they evolve into the next version of the card and its kinda like "transform Shaman". Every minion has a little built in questline to make it stronger.
yeah otherwise it'll just be a hassle to get the stronger effects, the evolve condition should also optional just you aren't forced to evolve
Un'goro would like a word
That just mana thirst
Man plays Armed dragons in Yu-gi-oh.
Or it could be a shadowverse class and tie in the hero power, limited evolves per game or somet
This is a different style of content, reviewing a custom class, hopefully this was enjoyable!
that was great fun man, love it!
Just to be clear i think the mega evolution had to do with flavour. It s stated that mega evolving is painful
Honestly loved the video, you should do more of this (if you want to of course)
I really love exploring custom classes. More please!

it seems like I am living up to my potential
Obviously he wants to be the best.
He was very close tho! Almost got it right
And thought charizard is an dragon type
Rattatata
Hey man thats my class, thanks so much for looking through it! It was so crazy to see this old post get this attention out of nowhere!
I gotta hand it to rarran. Dude is always open to trying new content that aligns with his audience. Great creator!
Would love to see Gen 2 and 3. I think the most people will be familiar with the first few and really enjoy it

This was freaking amazing!! I don’t think I’ve ever sat and watched a 40 minute YT video and didn’t lose interest 😂 please do another Pokémon review!
The flavor of these is OFF THE CHARTS. I love this. Would you ever do a Pokémon nuzlocke?
Really liked it hope you'll do other gen
Really loved this one! Hipe to see more stuff like it in the future!
Hype doesn't have an I lmao
@@SmashCentralOfficial It was supposed to be hope lol
@@BlueSpooky LOL oh that makes a lot more sense
I think you just invented a new word. Hipe: Full of hope and hype.

Hey Rarran, I know you said on a Voxy VOD that you're not too interested in trying Pokemon TCG, but right now the metagame is in a pretty good spot and I think it would be a good video to retry the game on Live. The program has its fair share of problems but I think it would be good content.
where do i play it?
@@Rarran Its videogame version is named Pokemon TCG Live
Can you also review the other gens? This was really fun.
I really enjoy this style of content! If you do decide to make more of these, maybe bringing a guest on could help with card commentary.
I just found this video while I'm making pokemon card for HS and seeing we used the same art for the cards made me smile :)
16:24 most broken card i've ever seen #psyduckgang
The excitement Rarran had to see there was Charizard X AND Y is the excitement I aspire to in my daily life

I'd love to see videos on Gen 2 and Gen 3 maybe.
As someone who is trying to design a card game that includes Pokemon, I love this class concept
Feel free to use the ideas, Heathstone devs been using that post for years
Although some of these cards are a bit TOO spicy
@@tomczakowski530 Honestly I might. But with more emphasis on Evolutions and less on "unfair tech cards"
Can we get some more custom class/set reviews. Really enjoyable video
funny fact, I haven't played HS since Dr.Boom & Pkmn since GEN 3.
I play MTG and I really loved this video, do more

I've casually watched your videos for years but lord helix told me to subscribe and I look forward to seeing you more often.
This is actually so sick. If Pokémon made a hearthstone style game it would be all over for me. No more life.
The flavor is you can only ad the first stage of pokemon to your deck. When you play the stage 1 the following stage is added to your hand
if I remember correctly, Bliizard actually already have 1 year ahead (3 expansion) been designed already. its either this guy is on hearthstone design team, or blizzard saw this post and just yoink it. if he's not in the design team, then this guy is actually genius

Pokemon Trainer just needs spells. Items would be a great way for spells
Going to need a video for each generation and evaluation of the class as a whole. 🧐
We need more Rarran
3-4 gen is a legend😳
if a class like this was made today we could use the Rune System with it but instead of 3 options its 1 to signify the trainer type and what starters u can have access too
A better way to do Abra, thematically speaking, is **Enrage:** Shuffle Abra back into your deck.
I could see mega evolution be a megathirst thing as he said, Like manathirst 10 mega evolve at the start of your next turn or something like that
Shoulda looked at Gengar at the end too :D
isnt the text on the mega evolved battle cry referencing the own card for destruction, so you dont need 2 copies of a blastoise to mega evolve?
This guy must be a dev, the amount of future predictions are insane!
Megaevolve could be changed so if you played all stages (e.g. Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard in the same game) then the next one you play is the mega form.

this was really fun to see. i want more !!!!!!! give us more!!!!!!!!!
I think it would be funny if they made this class in a DK class style.
So under deckbuilding you would spec into generations. Somehow.
Rarran, ArticUNO, ZapDOS, MolTRES. 1,2,3. Artic, Thunder, Molten 🤣 love the Zapados tho
Interesting type of video. You also should do more "custom card" from internet or subscribers

Because of this vid I went to the post and started looking at other gens…. Gen 3 has so many cards that would be broken imo
You should make a video with the original creator of this deck and talk through some decisions or even better design an updated version together !
I assume the creator only did six gens, cause there are currently 9 gens of pokemon. Yes I am easily confused and got stunned by this for a sec,
