Great video and tips! Going to Torpedocon next week, can't wait to get back out there.
I love the "true community" love that you give to other creators. You shout out and spread the love for other creators, and I absolutely LOVE that. I so respect that about your channel. You were the 1st I followed when I started collecting, followed quickly by Bueller, then Regie Collects. Recently I started checking out Very Gary and a few other folks. But you are absolutely part of my core! Thank you for what you bring and share.
One tip I would give, you gotta go with people who actually love comics. Too many times I've gone with a group that said they wanted to go a Comic book convention but literally be done with the show after 2 hours. As a result, I ended up leaving the con way earlier than I wanted to not being able to checkout all the booths or look at all the long boxes, because my group I came was done and was ready to leave the show. What's worse is that I bought my group's tickets for the show. Hella fail on me haha. Next time I'm going solo and staying til they kick me out. 😂 This happened at the most recent Puyallup show as well. All bad man. 😅
100% agree! I took the family... after 30 minutes everyone was ready to leave lol.
That's so hype that Donny showed y'all a sneak peek of Silver Surfer's art
I love listening to y’all on my drive home from work!
I went to my first con at the end of April. I only had $50 to spend. I brought 10 blanks with me in hopes of getting a sketch done. I decided to walk the exhibit hall to see who was there & if I might find something I wanted more then a sketch. I talked to 3 artist I was interested in & there was one celebrity I was considering getting the auto of. After looking at everything I set down & ate to try to decide what to do. I decided to walk the floor again. I walked up to the first booth. Saw they had a $50 horror mystery I missed first time around. I immediately bought it & before I got home I regretted it. I told myself going in not to impulse buy but that’s exactly what I did.
Also nycc has an app where u select the things you want with reminders
Thanks for reading Regie’s comment. Every time I meet creators my mind goes blank. Once waited for hours to meet Liu and Takeda to sign Monstress and only thing I remember saying was thanking them.
It's nerve-wracking. I should love meeting creators but I get way too nervous
Great vid. I agree with Gary on having a list helps keep you on track on what you’re hunting.
The way I approach cons is a mix between how you mentioned Reggie and Jeff approach cons. I have a plan that includes time to explore.
In the weeks leading up to the con I scour the floor map and highlight where those vendors and creators I’m interested in are going to be. I also make sure that I’m subscribed to all their social media accounts. They will let you know where they’ll be and when. Also, they may post about sales or exclusives. There have been instances where a code word was posted and if you tell the creator at their booth they’ll throw in something extra with your purchase. I then make a schedule of when and where I would like to be to pick up exclusive items, attend panels, meet with creators, etc. BUT, I always leave ample time in between to explore the con floor. I love walking around and seeing attendees in costume, the booth decorations, being amongst likeminded people, and most importantly discovering or learning about new things in the comic world, that’s how I got into Mouse Guard, learned about indie creators in Artist Alley, or stumbled upon a short line of people waiting to meet a creator, which is how I met Mike and Laura Allred who are the sweetest humans in the world.
I would also say go to a con with a comic fan or by yourself. I've gone with casual friends who just like to see cosplayers but aren't there for the comics and they're done after a couple hours and I'm like, we got 3 days left.
Great video!
Donny Cates😲
You guys have a great channel. I watch a little utube some good stuff and you guys are well spoken have good content and have a NICE production. 👍👍👍. Keep it up
Tom, what do you think about Clayton Crain???
One thing to keep in mind, Ryan, is that creators may feel super uncomfortable being the center of attention. Amy Reeder posted on her blog several years ago about her experience at cons. As an introvert, and I’m sure we all can imagine artists and writers working for hours alone in their studios, coming out of their safe havens to the wild world of conventions with people shoving comics at them, asking them to sign them, asking them questions, etc. It can be jarring for them too. In short, you may be nervous, but they may be more so.
Excellent point! Ashamed to admit I hadn't thought of this...
Bring a storefolio box maby a book bag so comics don't get damaged in the grocery bag your given
THIS ☝☝☝
The folios are so handy
Go kick rocks is the nice put down.
Here is a suggestion.. look for some of the older creators that use these con appearances to make a living. I went to one a few years ago and Mike Grell was at his booth with zero interest from the millennials running around in their Naruto cosplay.. or whatever the hell they were supposed to be. Grell is a master draftsman and reinvigorated Green Arrow in the 80’s. He signed my Longbow Hunters #1 and I bought a signed print. The young people had no idea who he was.
Get a group, and all pitch in for room and board
Torpedo con!!!
I've been to one comic con in Statesville NC and i regretted not buying a set of variant comics for $80 now they are $$$$. plus i had to get taken by my mom and she only let me stay for an hour.
TOM!!! We wanna see the kitties 🐱 more 😻
Having been to a few signings, many charge for sigs to 1. Support themselves, or 2. Pay for the trip, doing cons and signings can be expensive. Many also base their signature price on the prices for their sigs to prevent resellers from crowding the line and cheating those that love the person doing the signing out of the time and interaction. Many of them understand the cost can be a lot, and more often than not I have seen many give away stuff or discount prices based on how much you bring or what kinda situation you are in.
These were great tips from a wide variety of different types of collectors. Good stuff!
Awesome content and tips
THE LIST IS ON FIRE 🔥🔥❤❤🔥🔥❤❤🔥🔥❤❤
Philip Kennedy Johnson is gonna be at my lcs the 21st this month in muncie IN and im excited to get my alien and dark crystal signed
...and Superman and The Last God!! Ooooohhh
The term you're looking for is "kick rocks".
Are you guys heading to NYCC?
Last time I went to comic con was 2019
Good stuff
Great video as always but this was gold! I'm sure you know buy Fiona is doing a set of Magic Cards!! They look soooo good.
I’m trying to decide which con I should take my teenager to. It will be his first!
Great tips when it comes to con especially those who are beginners just like I was when I went to my first con at C2E2 and I was so clueless what to do but with this video I'm ready
I got a question how do you deal with people that are rude not very nice at cons
Same way you should deal with them in the real world! Kindness all around! Nerds like us can be really socially awkward especially, so it's best to just try and move on and not let it get to you. If it's a vendor who's being a butthead, just move on! Plenty of other booths to check out!
I just went to my first one last month it was amazing !! First big books as well can’t wait for my next one !! Thanks for the tips brotha man appreciate you !!
I'm going to my first con in August in Shawnee, OK 😁
Have fun!
@@fireguyryan9362 thank you🙏🏻 love y'all's show.
Ryan looks thinner in that vid!🙃
I'm not, trust me... 😅
Reggie's content just isnt what I'm after
I liked for butch
Not all heroes wear capes
#ComicGato!!
Very disappointed no real good tips In this very long video just general stuff anyone knows..wish you better videos in the future
😂 Amen
Sorry it wasn't your thing! Thanks either way for making your opinion known. As a major con rookie I wish I had known some of these things before my first time, but I guess for someone with more experience this might be less useful.
Maybe Tom and Jeff should do like...a 2.0 version of this topic. Con tips for people with more experience....
@@fireguyryan9362 Now that is a good idea cause the con experience does change for the folks who go on a regular basis🤔
Do you recommend following Chris at "We Love Comics"?
Always compliment the creators/artists and try to get something from them. They spend long days at these cons with some radical human beings so they could use the pick-me-up. They get enough hate on social media. Don't be that guy that brings up that dude messed up a panel back in 1994.
Wow I didn't even think of that. That there must be jerks who wait in line just to give creators crap in person...damn
@@fireguyryan9362 I've seen it and not just in comics
I like looking through stacks and meeting my faves artists. Mike Grell, Mike Zeck, and Texiera were the coolest. Michael Golden was uber awkward and coukd offer nothing insightful about his own work.
😎

Awesome video!
