This is the story of Blizzards Diablo universe, told through trailers, game videos, voice acting from the games and the amazing artwork of both concept artists and fans! Sit back and enjoy as I let you (re)discover the universe through the eyes of Leah as she looks through Cains books and writings!
This is a great way to brush up on your Diablo lore, and get in the mood for the upcoming game!
I do NOT own the rights for the artwork of this movie, neither have I made any of it, I have only edited it in a way I thought would make a great story.
For the most in depth and thrilling immersion into this universe, I suggest you play the actual games ;-) I did, and I loved it!

Im only 18 and Im new to the game and I have to say that this lore is freaking fucking awsome! (Big fan of dark souls lore too)
Based on how D3 came out, I can't get excited about D4 the game. This series, however, is some of my favourite high fantasy lore, and quarantine is an excellent time to remember it all.
This is amazingly well done. As someone who has been playing since the original Diablo, this is a walk down memory lane.

Heroes of the Storm brought me here. I'm an avid WoW player and never played Diablo before. Was just curious to what the story was behind Diablo.

NightEye It is unexpected namely because Heroes of the storm isn't that popular and since diablo has been around for so long - there are many other excuses to learn about its story line or so you would think.
chrystalian Cool Diablo characters on Heroes of the Storm was enough excuse for me to get curious enough to look up the lore of the game. Everyone has their way of being introduced to something.
Heroes of the storm brought me here too because Tyrael looks cooler than any Palidan in WoW. Great story, will be getting Diablo soon.

I swear, of all the Prime Evils, Baal has GOT to be my favorite. Every one of his lines from him convincing Marius to tell his tale mysteriously, to him leaving his armies of hell rain down upon Mount Arreat..... GOD DAMN is he Destructive. No wonder

One problem with the story (that is the fault of the Diablo 3 writers) is that the warrior of Diablo 1 was turned into "Prince Aiden" by the Diablo 3 writers. If this is to be canon, you'd think Aiden would have been able to tell that the boy Lazarus abducted was not his brother. Instead Cain had to tell him that wasn't the prince (16:30). By the way, Cain, you've been charging the Prince 100 gold pieces to identify shit. You should be ashamed.

I know this comment is old but maybe Aiden left before his brother was even born, he is a child in Diablo 1 after all. Of course this is a BIG maybe since Diablo 3 retcon so much and introduced so many plot holes is difficult to make sense of the history anymore.

(As far as seriously responding to retcons, it would be nice if they didnt go and fuck everything up. And rip up the nice continuity that the first 2 had but I have found that the 3rd game in a series is always disappointing at best. I cant name a 3 that I liked more than 1 and 2 of a series.

I love how the Angel of Fate moved across the battlefield in the animated short. No wasted effort, if any at all. As if reality itself dictated that his victims were to died. he just appears, his sword draws, the enemy dies, and on to the next. Perfect representation of what the Angel of Fate should be.
I wish the Druid was in D3. That was my favourite guy.

I never understood how Imperius, being the head of the council, could be so impatient and not heed the council of the Angels before just slaying Diablo. Auriel was right, sacrilege...

i am watching this before i start D3, i have watched videos on the D1 and D2. I just want to make sure i haven't missed any of the lore from the first two. So therefore i would be watching any of D3 stuff.
Majority of the actual good lore isn't in the games though. Try rhyker's ( you tube channel) playlist on diablo lore.

Man, Diablo 2 is the best RPG game no doubt. Watching this want me to replay it, not the fancy graphic, but the unmatchable atmosphere of Di2.

Gonna have to agree with Mark Mauk here. I mean I like Diablo 2 more, but Diablo 1 had the atmosphere. It was amazing to say the least.

Most people can think of a better, more compelling story for Diablo 3, that doesn't mean it's that simple, sadly. Blizzard as it is today is trying to appeal to a broader audience, and thus increase their profits. This goes for their other franchises as well. A broader audience/gamers basically means simpler, more easy to follow plots and less subtlety, it also sadly means more quick and easy rewards and flashy colors to keep the younger gamers hooked.
At the end of the day Actiblizzard is a company like any other and the one thing they care the most about, more than anything else by a landslide, is making money. And when it comes to movies and games the real money is in the younger demographic . Sadly.

Tons of criticism about Diablo 3 on here. Have you played it lately? They are definitely developing it in the right direction. It has become really fun again. This is just my opinion of course. This new patch 2.2 has some really exciting changes. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to put this together. Great video :)
I have been playing a lot of Diablo 3 lately and it's quite fun still.I am level 27 as a wizard and got 2 legendary weapons.I can't seem to find legendary armor, just weapons.
you're talking gameplay, not lore. I had to stop playing the game for a few years out of sheer disappointment of how terribly they picked up the story. They made it near impossible to make a sequel, and if they do so, they'll have to jump the shark so much more to the point that the franchise runs the risk of being on life support.
It has been always fun since the very reléase, but that's it, it has a nice and fun gameplay, but back in the day Diablo 1 and 2 were awsome due to the gothic and dark theme it had, the lore and story telling was really cruel and vicious, Diablo 3 its a fucking game for kids, all colorful and cheerful, with tons of jokes and humor in it, that's not the sequel we wanted.
I don't think you could argue D3 is any less Gothic. Plenty of regions in D2 like act 2 are no more gothic than say the least gothic in D3, Caldeum. and in terms of architecture, only Act 1 of D2 had truly gothic architecture, which is the same as D3.
Nope. I don't play anymore but my boss does. 1) Not massively multiplayer -> largest instance group is 4 people and you don't ever run into common areas where it's greater. 2) THere is an active player base that enjoys the Grift challenge and over-optimizing builds.
Tal Rasha was the leader of the Horadrim during the hunt for Prime Evils. When Mephisto was caught, the magi chased Baal to the desert near Lut Gholein. Unfortunately, when the Horadrim tried to imprison the Lord Of Destruction, he shattered the Soulstone into pieces. It became clear that the stone could contain his essence forever. Zoltun Kulle suggested that one of them has to imprison Ball within his own body and Tal'Rasha volounteered.

I'd also like to point out Blizzard hasn't had a unique good idea for some time both W.O.W. and D3 chose to make Cartoon heroes in fairy tale rainbow worlds but War Craft 1,2, and 3 and Diablo 1 and 2 had already attracted an entirely different brand of Gamer if that is not a statement saying "we are throwing away our fan base to make room for children that we will throw away later" then what is?

Itherael and Auriel appear in Diablo 3 along with Imperius and Tyriel. Malthael left heaven if you followed the story. Tyriel plays a large role in the story and Imperius is in the cutscenes and at the end of the game.

There is no alternate dimensions of Sanctuary (the world of Diablo). I'd love to hear Blizzard's official statement on how they manipulated the story-line to bring back Mephisto and Diablo into the picture. As well why they didn't finish off the story of Lord of Destruction where the world is "changed" by the destruction of The World Stone. I think they just wanted to make D3 an "epic" story without putting much thought and regard into the already laid out story path before it.
I played the first one as if there was no tomorrow when I was young, but no other after that. Where does these animations (specially the one from the beginning,) come from? Diablo 3?
