You and a couple other people inspired me to build one and I DID IT! I just have to add the vises, sand and stain. Never built even a box out of wood and I did all the mortises, tennons and assembly myself and it looks amazing. Yours is much more refined but I'm very happy with mine. thank you!
And yet you have no videos of it. A travesty! Something that sounds as good as that deserves a showcase. As a separate note, your moon and planet videos looks awesome 👍
Hi Matt would this be to much for a disabled beginner woodworker. I brought a bench and wish I never did. I’m looking at a bench about 5ft long and 2ft wide but want it to out last me. I e got no skills and taken me 2 years to build 4 work benches around the outside of my 16ft x 10ft shed workshop not a lot of room left hopefully you might be able to steer me in right direction many thanks steve👨🏼🦽 and keep up the great videos
i'm working on a Roubo now. Using 8/4 red and white oak for top and southern yellow pine and walnut for legs. surfacing that 8/4 oak is a job with only 1 person. Might have to recruit some help from a pal.
Hi Matt, I am not sure who suggested I look at your channel ( it might have been James Write) but as a result I have just watched all six parts of your build. I am very envious of the tools you have access to and the bench came out looking great.
Really, really nice bench. But good grief, is it going to double up as a air raid shelter!!! :-) I've seen wooden barns with less wood in their posts than you have in your legs! Take no notice of me, I'm only jealous. I now want one. Cheers David
Oh no I’ve been ruining it the past couple of months! Yes the first dent was a little bit sad, but now there’s glue, dents, scratches, saw marks all over it!
I love this bench and is just what I'm looking for so I purchased the plans for it. I then looked up the price of ash to make this bench and found it was way too expensive, I could (almost) buy two Sjoberg benches for just the timber price. I then have to make it!
Hello sir "Here", first I beg you to excuse me because I do not speak English but I still have some memories of school and I will do with + maybe Google translation. I really like your videos even though I don't understand what you're saying but sometimes the images are enough. I would like to know what wood species you used for your Roubo Workbench? Thank you in advance for your answer. Kind regards Jean-Loup
In a comment above Richard Allen said he could almost buy two Sjobergs benches for the price of just the timber (using Ash). The cheapest, simplest of those I've found was around $500 (on eBay), but one more comparable to the bench in this video would likely run closer to $2,000 I think.
Of course one thing many people don't realize is that you don't build something like this for yourself to save money. Companies who purchase a lot of materials (in any industry) typically get better prices than individuals can to the point that even after they add their labor and profit into the price you often aren't saving much money by trying to build it yourself.
Thx for reply , will keep lookout . you did an awsome job love this bench but out of my league . There's one by wranglestar on yt but a bit different yet solid . not bad to take a look at .
The timber was around £800 if I remember correctly. The timber supplier I used was called Tyler Hardwoods and are based up towards Hungerford. You have to go there knowing what you want as it's all stacked up high but can still sort through the boards once they have forked them down. Its a really great and welcoming sawmill, I love going there!
Hey Matt - how much BF of lumber did you end up getting? I've seen estimates on 150-200 board feet of material for a split top roubo style bench - just curious what you ended up needing - and how much was the top vs base 60/40 etc??
Start by building two massive sawhorses. Cut the timber for the half of the top that does not have any vises to rough length, and plain their faces flat and parallel. Then glue them together. Use that as your workbench for making the leg components and the front half of the worktop. Doable, but of course it will take time.
Love the bench and this series! Do you happen to remember roughly how many board feet you started with? I have a few large slabs of oak but not sure if I have enough for the whole bench.
Its just a funny sound effect to draw your attention to the Twitter account. It happens again for the Instagram, then again it could just be a flatulent coincidence 😂
I don't see why you need to plane the edge of the board. If your table saw fence is parallel to the blade, that should square up the edges, and you just need to plane the one remaining face.
Wow the level of detail that you go through is probably considered obsessive. You’ve convinced me to abandon this bench as I don’t have the professional tools necessary to do the job to the standards of RUclips gods.
Yes! I need to make a few adjustments here and there but will announce them on social media in a few weeks. It's not top of my priority list at the moment but I will get them done!

You said you were going to BLOODY make a workbench. Job done! Bloody legend you are!
Attention to detail is the way forward :) Great commentary very informative thanks for sharing
A very good video presentation and I'm glad to support another Southpaw in his right mind
Amazing woodwork Matt! Your workbench is absolutelly amazing. Can you please let me know how much should be timber dried? 10% Tnx.
I just built an 8/4 cherry bar had 10 ten foot long 11 inches wide boards way heavy jointed by hand and it took a lot of shaving and sharpening

Haha thank you David. Great observation!
the problem with such a beautiful, perfect bench is you are afraid of hurting it. It's nicer than any furniture you will ever make.

If you start with a nice work be ch it will encourage you to do more quality projects
Matt - Excellent work on both the workbench and the video series. I'm looking forward to watching your other videos.
Hey Matt, love your videos. Quick question, what type of wood did you use for this Roubo workbench?
Hi Melanie. I hope you don’t mind me answering, but just to let you know, it was ash.
I love this bench and is just what I'm looking for so I purchased the plans for it.

Wow! awesome and very informative!
Was Geoff whistling Christmas tunes in the background? I don't know if he did it 4 years ago, but he does it now, any time of the year 😅

What kind of lumber did you use on the bench? Hard Maple perhaps? Great job!!!
Fantastic job, congratulations 1k subscribers.
My housemate was watching and waiting to be my 1000th subscriber. We had a little celebration between ourselves. Thank you!
what wood is what you are using?
Its Ash :)
Hahaha! I want to plane a cat! All the best, Rob
Maybe I missed it, but what kind of wood did you use?
what wood was this bench made of matt
What is the best desk material?
anyone knows what type of wood was chosen for this workbench?
AWESOME!
What kind of wood you have used?!
he used ash. he had considered beech but prefers the look of the grain of ash.
that was oak right? Roughly how much did that lot cost?
I love this bench. Amazing work. How much did the timber cost for this?

Oh actually he answered the question below. Said it was about £800
Great bench build, what are the dimensions for the bench?
hello matt, is the plan indicated in centimeters? in France it is with this measure that we work.
thank you
It most certainly is :) Well, millimetres
Matt Estlea exact :) thanks ! I take !

Yea I have seen that one. It's exactly why I didn't call this a 'How-to' series. I know that many people don't have access to all that machinery!
Matt, can you give us the overall size of the bench?
I prefer a low angle block plane when I plane my cat...it does wonders on Kitty B Hole End grain
very nice
Cheers mate, thanks for the follow on Instagram too!
not a problem good content buddy i wish i had access to a shop like that
How much did the timber for the bench cost? And who was the supplier? (I’m in the New Forest so may go to the same).
Nice series btw. Cheers, Mike.

I might have missed if you said, but what kind of wood was used for the workbench?
I don't think he did. I'd also like to know.
Nice content! Keep it up!
Where could I find the hardware you used for the vises?
Classic hand tools in the UK. Unless of course you’ve already found a supplier. It’s Benchcrafted hardware too.
Hi do you have any plans for this build would love to build this
Benchcrafted, the company that makes the hardware, has the plans on their website. Check their Instructions-tab.

Amigo que clase de madera hizo el banco de trabajo
does anyone know what type of wood he used for this project?
The majority of timber he uses is ash. I believe the houndstooth dovetails are joined to a walnut section too.
@@chm1701 Thank you i appreciate your reply THUMBS UP!
What kind of wood did you use?
It's all made from Ash with a Walnut end cap. Hope that helps!
Matt Estlea - Furniture thank you!!!
Hi, great job! Would you like to share the drawing of the project?
Sid you get ??
Did you get ???
i would do it if i had everything i could woods even an old self sustaining growth forrest lol
